  • For years, I was logging swim distances that were inaccurate. Subsequently, my paces, were off, too. But I figured out this tip to never having that happen again, when I use a Garmin.

    Had the same problem. Until someone told me to swim kinda overcorrect and to be careful about the arm movement. The watch might count when you're moving your arm too much when you're resting for example. It takes a bit of practice, but when you swim really correct and accurate the gamin actually tracks the distance quite good. Also the glide phace in the beginning of each lap is important.
    so push of, glide and swim. And don't move your arm too much while resting or avoid other swimmers crossing your path. It's a bit annoying yes but it works when you're used to it.

  • @its_rick_james_bich2575
    @its_rick_james_bich2575 Před rokem +8

    I shall try the drill log.
    The normal swim mode is absolutely useless. I have a standard 25 metre pool. I swam using the same stroke (freestyle). So at two completed lengths it worked and clocked the distance correctly at 50 meters. Then at 4 completed lengths it jumped to 150 meters! And so on!! I’m sure by the end of my 40 min swim it had added an additional 300 meters onto my swim!!! I’m tempted to just bin this and manually count lengths. The data looks all nice in the Garmain connect app..but is shockingly inaccurate! Considering the price range of the device and it’s supposed to specialise in swimming..I think this watch should be reported to trading standards lol

    • @IronmanHacks

      I don’t believe that’s possible because in drill mode the only things you can do are pause it and select the distance you just swim or stop like you’re going to end the entire swim…

    I will try this the next time I'll go swimming. Just used the Forerunner 55 today for my first swim with the watch and it said I did 2000 meters instead of 1000 meters. I just do breaststroke, but because it was so busy in the pool, I had to keep avoiding other swimmers. I manually edited my lap settings in garmin connect, but when I tried to upload that to strava, it still said I had done 40 laps instead of 20. So hopefully the drill log setting will fix this. Could i also just swim 20 laps in one go and make the drill be 1000 meters?

    • @IronmanHacks

    Is this watch still relevant today (after almost 3 years of its release)?
    Am looking for my first smartwatch mainly for the fitness functions, but all I do is just light jogging and pool swims. But am already used to count the laps and see the clock.
    Should I consider getting this garmin now, or the newest iwatch SE2?
    Thanks a lot!

    • @IronmanHacks
      @IronmanHacks  Před rokem +1

      Hey there. This watch is not the latest and greatest out there, for sure. Newer versions like the 255 and 955 have even more features, but all the Garmins are going to have what you need if you are just doing light jogging and pool swims.
      Whether you should buy a Garmin or Apple is really a personal decision, and much of it will come down to looks, style, and price, if you are not a serious triathlete or hardcore runner or swimmer. The Apple's screens are brighter and they're kind of more stylish I'd say - it's a different look altogether.
      I suggest you read the reviews on DC Rainmaker - he's got the most extensive and complete (and neutral!) reviews of all these watches, and decide for yourself. Here's his review of the 255: www.dcrainmaker.com/2022/06/garmin-forerunner-255-review-multisport.html
      Finally, I have seen some really cheap watches used - like $100 - in perfect shape.
      Happy training!

    I've noticed that my watch detects if I'm doing drills. I'm not sure how to get rid of it while swimming if I just want to do an over length/time without individual drill times. It doesn't add on the lengths of the drills to the overall swim, but foes add the time. Any tips?

    • @IronmanHacks
      @IronmanHacks  Před rokem +1

      Hi David. Actually, all I show in this video is how to save your swims as drills. The way I'm familiar with is that you have to tell Garmin it's a drill. But if yours is automatically jumping to drills, that's new to me. And that it doesn't add the lengths of the drills is odd too. Which watch is it that you have? I have the swim 2 and the accuracy in a 25 meter pool doing a standard freestyle stoke is terrible!! It adds additional 25 meters for fun!! I seriously don’t understand why the watch has a pool size setting..it’s totally irrelevant to how the watch determines a completed length of a pool!

      @chrislapa Před 8 měsíci

      @@FivosA technically you’d only have to log in your distance / push buttons once in the end in that case :). I’d say this advice is less practical if doing multiple short distance or variable distance splits. I can’t wait to try this since the inaccuracy is driving me crazy.
