I should have had the camera rolling when I first started using encaustics. I blew all the wax right off the substrate with my heat gun haha. LOTS of trial and error. I also watched many Nancy Crawford tutorials. Check her out on CZcams! Thank you for your kind words.
Thank you again for your generosity to share with us this beautiful video, it is so helpful! I really love photo encaustic + multi media encaustic...I think that it is so soft and so beautiful. Thank you for your help with this precious moments of education!

sorry to be so off topic but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost the account password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me!
@@PABragg i have a question. I have layered collage papers and vintage papers with walnut ink and some small amounts of acrylic paint and gesso on a wood canvas. It’s covered with gel medium. Can I safely cover it with something now so that I can use encaustic over it? Can I apply encaustic clear gesso or medium and not chance the integrity of the painting later?
Hi Fergie. I wasn't sure what was going to happen when I put the first layer of wax over the background, since I used a little acrylic with the stencil. But it didn't smear or anything! I used fixative only over the photo, not the background.
P.A. Bragg, it would be better. Acrylics and encaustic waxes and colours don’t mix well. Eventually the encaustic will slide off or crackle. You used acrylic gesso for the board, so that any application of encaustic medium you used on top will not really fuse. Forget anything acrylic if you want your artwork to last. This also applies to the gesso used as primer. If you need to prime your board, then use encaustic gesso. Encaustic colours are expensive but you can use oil paints or oil sticks -they go a long way Pan pastels, charcoal, etc. are great. But encaustic wax over acrylic anything will not end well. The fixative does nothing to help I’m afraid.
Hi Super Beth. I was curious about them too. I love using them in my encaustic work. Here is a little more information about them. www.rfpaints.com/pigment-sticks

Thank you. Even though I read things about what works and doesn't work, I still attempt to try new things anyway and sometimes I am pleasantly surprised. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment.
I am a beginner and trying to sort out all the conflicting information regarding encaustic over acrylic paints. Does the fixative spray prevent any issues? I've also read that encaustic medium alone can serve as the adhesive, so you could avoid gluing the image down? Any help appreciated. Thanks!
Glad you asked, Chris. I remember starting out and trying hard to find answers to my questions. I ended up learning a lot by trial and error, but I was on a budget and trying to minimize expenses. I tried both way of adhering...with Yes paste and with just using the encaustic. Unless what I was adhering was very thin (like tissue paper which almost just melts right into the encaustic medium) I use the Yes paste because when I adhere thicker things like a photograph or some lace, curls up and pulls apart. I lost a few pieces that way. I haven't tried any spray fixatives. Hope this helps!
Excellent! Love this.

@@cindyceroky8274 oh wow, GREAT question. Honestly, I have never tried that before. Hmmmm. I would suggest trying it out on a little test piece. :o
all instruction videos I've watched say you can't use acrylics with wax. Does the fixative allow you to do it?

Yes, you shouldn't use gesso or acrylic under encaustic if you want long term adhesion and fixative wouldn't change that

Loved watching this. Who is playing the beautiful music which lent so much to your video? Wld you share that information w us?
I'm so glad you liked the music. I purchased a project called "Royalty Free Music for Movies and Videos" on iTunes and everything is from that album.
That was a lot of work ..... nice end gain !
Couldn’t this all be assembled using only encaustic medium? Why the need for any acrylics?
Good idea, Cindy. I'm sure you could!
This is the wrong way to do encaustic.... Acrylic gesso?
That came out really good. What mag did you find that good lookin barn?
I actually took the photo when we were driving through the midwest.

Confused about using water based/acrylic medium with encaustic. I thought oils only?
Yeah, I was doing some hefty experimenting. :0
