    I can see Rekordbox and Serato becoming a singular platform in the future. Makes more sense under these circumstances. But I also agree that too much power can be bad, so I hope Engine and maybe even Algoriddim jump in as new alternatives.

      I'm still a strong proponent of the Reloop/Algoriddim combo. Both of those companies really seem to get where the other is coming from, and it really shows in the way the hardware and software interact. To me it's the most intuitive workflow I've used outside of turntables and a mixer, lol. I kind of hope this news means that more hardware manufacturers will start pushing stronger Djay Pro support(obviously the InMusic brands would probably start pushing Engine a lot harder, which is cool too, Engine seems awesome)

    Both Serato and PioneerDJ had successful and competitive business models. This corporate consolidation is very bad for us DJs. Only question is “how bad?”
    Now I just happen to be in the minority of DJs who use neither. I use djay Pro AI primarily, and just picked up VirtualDJ for its legendary STEMS 2.0. I used to use Numark gear and now primarily use a Reloop Mixon 4. I gave Serato a pretty serious try with the Mixon 4’s Pro license inclusion, but once they wanted $450 for pitch shifting, that was the end of that!

      But if you don't use neither and you're in the minority, how is this bad for the majority of working DJs? I get bucking the system, but both brands have been a standard for nightclubs and festivals for decades. And I say this as someone who also plays vinyl, has rotary mixers, Numark turntables, and occasionally uses Traktor. Overall, I think this bridges the gap between Rekordbox and Serato. And from a hardware perspective, I predict Pioneer having exclusive Serato updates before it's rolled out to Rane, Numark and others.

    I think this will end up with a merged rekordbox / serato platform but with a huge push by Pioneer to make sure everyone is paying a monthly subscription for various levels of features.
    I do think it's the perfect time for Engine DJ to roll out the platform to 3rd parties such as Roland, Rane etc though. Bringing a seamless laptop and standalone integration to market where you could practice at home and when you get a gig, to put Denon DJ on your kit request at the venue.
    We may then avoid the monopoly and have Denon DJ Vs Seratobox as the major players with VDJ as the awesome but slightly left field choice.

    The big news here is that InMusic didnt buy Serato. Pioneer bought Serato for some millions and that is money they can't spend on something like developing better standalone controllers. Lets face it, Serato started as a niche product, became a mainstream product and never made the move to a standalone platform, making it again a niche product in the near future. Buying Serato is mainly buying a brandname in a niche , not so much unique features. Big question now is, will InMusic convert Rane towards standalone products or sell the brand to AlphaTheta Corp?

      I would be surprised if rane was sold to pioneer I'd think inmusic would keep the rane brand name as its popular in the hip hop side of the industry and make a more dvs supportable engine OS / software for imbedded rane gear. Some controllers and mixers that with imbeded dvs support, perhaps a hip hop focused product line could be made that may allow them to adopt some of the serato / denon market that see the blood in the water for serato and would see a stand alone dvs set up as a viable reason to change software away from rekordbox especially if that becomes the only route that isn't subscription based.

    I’m a Serato Video + Soundswitch DJ. I’m rocking RANE FOUR right now and I love it!
    But I understand this move from both Pioneer and Serato. InMusic have been pushing significant improvements of Engine with more affordable hardware. It’s been strange that Serato didn’t take full advantage of the Prime 4 screen over the years. So if Opus-Quad becomes the ultimate standalone Serato Controller, I think that could be game over for InMusic to stay at the top without making Engine DJ the leading software on the market. I love the competition and I really hope the Opus-Quad center screen gets the Prime 4 treatment with full support for vertical 4ch mixing + Serato Video, STEMS and Flip controls. That would be amazing.

    Interesting times. As a Rekordbox and Engine DJ user, I think engine needs to create a phone app for mobile editing....I use my SC6000'S with Beatport Link, map my cue points and loops on my hardware as a result but it would be awesome, to go back and reedit, so to speak, on a mobile app. Thanks for the update Phil, shared on insta earlier and tagged your full story DDJT website. Have a great holiday. 🙌☀️🙌

    Whoever directed the people at Pioneer Dj to do this really had a head, no joke, checkmate. The death blow for Denon et company.. Pioneer gave the central blow to many non Rekordbox consoles.. They will probably fold under the umbrella of those from VirtualDj, but, not well enough... Practically and theoretically, non-Pioneer consoles enter a state of outlawry.
    I wouldn't be surprised if renowned companies in the DJ market end up in the dustbin of history... we'll see..
    I can imagine how Denon comes, humiliated, to the door of those from Pioneer Dj, to ask them for some ..crumbs that fall from the master's table.

    I am glad you made this video, thanks!
    I once thought that Serato was owned by Rane, but Serato and Rane has a big developing contract with each other more than an any other company has with Serato. I believe that partnership is slowly coming to an end because of Engine DJ software and Serato sees that, because what's next for Engine DJ is something I have been questioning for a while now. That is time code controls through vinyl and CD. Serato is big on using time code vinyl records for turntable DJ. So i think the Serato company saw this point in it's life to profit with a merger that will keep it's self alive with a new ownership that could really feed into it. I think it's a really smart business move, because they have competitors but there's two new competitors in DJ software out there and their software comes in these standalone units: engine dj and recordbox. I believe that standalone probably has hurt the sales of DJ software even if that's slightly, but in business you got study trends and in those slight sales drops professionals can see the furture of a company, so for Serato users this sale to Pioneer might be the best thing for them. Pioneer will help keep Serato fresh and alive and they possibly could bring some new features to Serato as well.

    Both softwares have features that I do love and would really want to see them become more similar, if not just one platform but one where we can switch the interface from the RB one to the Serato one of we wish to.
    Also we could see more dual compatible hardware devices in the future 🤞🏽

    This is horrible for the DJ and music production communities. There is a big trend of investment firms buying audio software and hardware companies. Pro Tools and Moog are just two of the big names that were bought out this years. Soon only a few companies will have total control on how you create and play music. Very scary times for music lovers. This is 1000x worse than what large record labels have done to music the last 5 decades.

    I don't think it would be that difficult for inMusic to develop a computer version of EngineDJ if they chose to. .........they own M-Audio, so still own the rights to Torq. In fact I'd go as far as saying that some of the code from Torq already exists in Engine.
    And of course, AirVince is still with the company & active on their forums.

    Let the battle commence it will be interesting to see what In Music do. In Music could buy Algorithm DJ or even Atomix some may see this a bleak outcome, I see this being overall a good thing either way the consumer wins. If ATC (by extension) Pioneer mishandle this acquisition, In Music is there, if the acquisition goes well there will be some innovative hardware and software to use, and if In Music wishes to remain in the race they will need to adapt and evolve. In Music were likely aware of this acquisition so are possibly not phased and if anything else has motivated them further.

    Hi Phil Have a great vacation. This is for one reason. Inmusic and their next announcement which is coming soon. InMusic is not a small company and they have all the resources to develop a great DJ Software Product for their DJ Equipment.
    Lately InMusic has been a thorn in the side of serato with all of the delays and is their a Rekordbox plugin yet to any Denon DJ equipment?
    The best news is that AlphaThea now has the resources available to take the Pioneer DJ Brand to where it needs to be hopefully there will be a synergy with Rekordbox DJ and Serato DJ Pro and we will get a true DJ software platform now

  • @AlexMoschopoulos
    @AlexMoschopoulos Před rokem +2

    I think my only concern will always be the licensing/price point. When you suddenly are paying up the nose to just use the software. Maybe if Pioneer made a 100% full version come free with most of their controllers, it would be a huge draw.

    • @danielbadideashaver4894
      @danielbadideashaver4894 Před rokem +1

      That's kind of already what they do. Now, they'd just be doing it without paying a royalty and while collecting a royalty from everyone else.
      You'll probably end up seeing something like "founders edition" controllers that work with new features before their competitors.
      Or, more likely imo, they'll eventually cut 3rd party support all together. That will make the market exactly as it is now, minus Serato, with all of the cool Serato features integrated into Rekordbox. You'll be stuck between Pioneer DJ, and a software with settings that will force you to think. It's the DJ world, so Pioneer will win that battle.

  • @OneOkami
    @OneOkami Před rokem +2

    I’m not a fan of this. Pioneer DJ already has a monopolistic grip on mindshare in the DJ market beyond mobile DJing. With it, the club/festival standard gear (CDJs) are already priced higher yet arguably less feature rich than competing Denon DJ gear. Reduction in competition is rarely to the consumer’s benefit and for that reason I personally wouldn’t mind seeing a revolution in the DJ market that breaks the current “club standard” status quo.
