  • As a parent, you tend to meticulously keep track of each milestone of your baby. One important milestone that is key to crawling and walking is sitting up. But when do babies start sitting up? This video gives you all the information on when babies start to sit, how to help them achieve this milestone and what to do when your baby can sit.
Ideally, babies should start sitting up by 3-5 months with additional support. By around six months, the baby should be able to sit unassisted as he would have developed enough muscular strength of the back and neck muscles to be able to do so. But there are cases where the baby will not be able to sit without help until the age of 9 months. Here's how you can identify in which month your baby should start sitting and how to help your baby start sitting.

I would just like to add here, as a fellow parent, that babies develop skills in their own time. These are skills they will use for their lifetime so please don’t worry. Let them take their time.
I do understand that parents worry, that’s just what we do. If you are really concerned, consult your pediatrician or family doctor. Ask around in your family too (or try to find out from the bio-family if the child is adopted and it is an open adoption), some of these skills could be developed faster or slower depending on genetics.

Actually most babies can't sit unassisted and shouldn't be expected to sit unassisted at 6 months. Dont worry, mamas!

Information is valid to me .My son start siting upright with support like us holding him up offcourse from 3months . He is fourth months now and Sit with support from like pillows to avoid turning over when he leans forward .We didn't force him whenever he lay down he just indicates he wants to be in a siting position by pushing him self up . Every baby is different and do things in different timing.

Hi to new mommies and dadda..
Don't panic pls, these are not the milestone in life. Remember human made to became good and we all knows how actually good we are. So don't panic. Help your kid everyday and everyway like sitting ( don't pick them from their hand ), sleeping and pee he or she can do so don't worry.
Your kid was able to survive for 9 months in less than half a square feet place so your kid is more powerful than you or your imagination. Give him time to learn your needs. He or she is more capable .

I don't think this is accurate. From what I understand there is a much wider range for when babies begin sitting on their own. My son is 8 months and still not sitting unassisted. I think these people might be more concerned with views than accurate info, so talk to your baby's doctor if you are concerned instead.

You should check out R.I.E. parenting its a more hands off philosophy where you let your baby slowly develop at his or her own speed without us intervening or assisting, I felt stressed as you with my 4 month old until I read more on this and it took away my anxiety and I'm much more relaxed now! The mellow mama channel here on CZcams has a wonderful way to explain and share this RIE parenting style, you can take what you need out of the teaching of course, do what feels best for your family !
