I don’t think I’ve heard them say outright they couldn’t afford it. But the underlying suggestion was they couldn’t afford or didn’t want to get the home fixed right in time to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy and a traditional mortgage.
Yeah, I listened to that. It exhibited a complete lack of understanding of real estate ownership. You don’t get to just walk away from a bad real estate decision. They positioned it like they did. It ruins your credit. The home was never built to be one. The construction issues were their own fault. You choose your own GC and you buy a home subject to existing construction. They can blame everyone, but the fact of the matter is that their story is exactly what you noted… fabricated to save face after being caught lying.

They would not have been able to get a loan from a traditional lender/bank without a CofO - a very good observation. Buying it in a business name is something the private money lender could have agreed to, but people don't understand that it was owner occupied and that still affords them consumer rights in part. Particularly as it relates to eviction post-foreclosure. And, even though it may be under the name of a business, they would have still had to provide a personal guaranty in connection with the extension of credit from a private lender at that Loan To Value (LTV) given the risk profile. So, they were still impacted greatly. I hope for their sake that they do understand what they are saying is not accurate. Sadly, no one teaches us these things in school. They are young and could be naive, but they clearly attempted to spin the rhetoric after they denied rumors that were clearly true. Humans make mistakes, but they know their credibility with their audience makes them money. So they needed to attempt to keep that.

All the items they pointed out were a natural repercussion of their attempting to combine the two homes and overbuild for the lot. A pool that big was never intended. They likely elected not to take the warnings of the contractors in the need to build a retaining wall because it is extremely expensive. That was part of their spin. They were the "victim" of issues they create..

Bigger plot twist. The point is to show the home is economically obsolescent and that no one should ever combine two built homes like this. I don’t think I’ve heard them say outright they couldn’t afford it. But the underlying suggestion was they couldn’t afford or didn’t want to get the home fixed right in time to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy and a traditional mortgage.

It ruins your credit. The home was never built to be one. The construction issues were their own fault. You choose your own GC and you buy a home subject to existing construction. They can blame everyone, but the fact of the matter is that their story is exactly what you noted… fabricated to save face after being caught lying.

They would not have been able to get a loan from a traditional lender/bank without a CofO - a very good observation. Buying it in a business name is something the private money lender could have agreed to, but people don't understand that it was owner occupied and that still affords them consumer rights in part. Particularly as it relates to eviction post-foreclosure. And, even though it may be under the name of a business, they would have still had to provide a personal guaranty in connection with the extension of credit from a private lender at that Loan To Value (LTV) given the risk profile. So, they were still impacted greatly. I hope for their sake that they do understand what they are saying is not accurate. Sadly, no one teaches us these things in school. They are young and could be naive, but they clearly attempted to spin the rhetoric after they denied rumors that were clearly true. Humans make mistakes, but they know their credibility with their audience makes them money. So they needed to attempt to keep that.

If you owned a home or ever had real estate obligations you would know that it is completely wrong. 3 - I don’t get many views and I don’t care. All the items they pointed out were a natural repercussion of their attempting to combine the two homes and overbuild for the lot. A pool that big was never intended. They likely elected not to take the warnings of the contractors in the need to build a retaining wall because it is extremely expensive. That was part of their spin. They were the "victim" of issues they create..
