  • Today I can finally play in the dirt in front of the new barn! It has dried out enough for me to clean up and regrade the area. And we are pretty sure both our sows are pregnant...I spend a few minutes talking about the future of our giant boar, JJ. Finally, I grill a chicken for dinner and share our "secret" sauce recipe.

It doesn't get any better than farm-raised food. Thanks to my wonderful neighbor, I've had chicken, pig, and beef right off the land. The store-bought food doesn't compare. One is generic, and the other is original, which is farm raised. We cook our chicken just like Pete does. It's delicious. Thanks for the upload, Pete!!

I agree with you 100% on the difference in the taste and texture of chicken raised naturally compared to super market poultry.
Today’s generations don’t know any better, they’ve been raised on this factory produced poultry all their lives.
I’m 81 and remember what chicken tasted like we raised ourselves.
I pay the extra price to get open range poultry. The texture and the taste of the meat is superior to what the factory farms send to market.

Pete, what a great video!! You got that huge patch all levelled, AND dealt with the rocks and weeds. Amazing!! Granted, you got to spend the day on the tractor, using lots of attachments :-)). The pigs are looking great. Great to hear you’ll let the sows and Billy live out their lives on the farm and sell the piglets to your buyer. I feel for you and Hillary re the pigs. Your family loves pork (as do my hubby and I), so it’s good to know you’ll be able to keep 4 for your family and long term customers, then sell the rest to your buyer. You are such ethical farmers. I’m happy for your animals. Thanks so much for sharing. Yours in Gratitude

I happen to agree with you about your chickens versus supermarket chicken. The difference in feed is the major reason for this. You are allowing yours to graze the wild green weeds and grasses and actual exposure to sunshine directly. God that looks like one of the best tasting chickens I have seen of late. Nummy looking as my wife said.

Hi Pete! Glad to see your dad get that Bridgeport! That's a nice addition to any shop. I worked on one for several years in the prototype automotive parts business in the suburb of Livonia MI outside of Detroit. You can make/repair a lot of stuff with one of those and a LeBlond engine lathe. Maybe you could have David Richards from the Steam Powered Machine Shop come over when dad sets it up and checks it out. That would make a nice cross-channel video. I think he would be happy to do it if you cooked him one of those grass fed broiler chickens. I know I would! Dave has forgotten more about machining than I'll ever know. Stay safe and happy till next time!

Pete, I'm a long-time viewer of the channel and I raise my own pastured poultry on a homestead scale for my family's consumption and our close friends and family. While I agree with you about cooking a chicken on the grill, I've found that my family prefers when the chicken has been brined for 30-60 minutes prior to going on the smoker. I know your technique works, but we love salt. I'm not ashamed. I would recommend anyone to try brining a pastured chicken -- it doesn't need it, but it's doggone delicious.

I have never heard of boar taint until today. Over the last couple of years, I've run across pork that was really strong in aroma. I'm in my late 60s and have never noticed it before but I've bought some supermarket pork, Boston butts and picnics, over the last several years that the smell and taste turned me away from pork. I thought my taste buds had changed as they do sometimes as you age but now I know where the problem lies. I guess my uncle never butchered any that had boar taint because I don't remember that strong smell.

Always here for your videos, Pete-always a highlight of my day! I understand the dilemma with JJ and for what it's worth, vote for option 3. I also understand the economics of pork production-really glad that Billy is working out and hopefully Brownie will have a better result this time around. It'll be interesting to see whether the last litter was about her genetics or JJ's. That said, we've been blessed to have some of the pork from your farm, bacon and ham, which were incredible. Some of the finest I've ever eaten-which makes me sad that it's not viable. Your product was amazing! And the drone shots of your farm and surroundings-glorious. Enjoy your trips and your weekend and many thanks again! You're the best!

That clean up job sure is looking good, be nice to see when it's all done. Great job Pete.

Home grown is ALWAYS better. I have a small garden that feeds us for about 4 months with delicious veggies… the rest of the year we reminisce about how much better things taste from the garden. I wish I could make it up to buy some of your chickens!

I agree with you Pete. If someone hasn’t tasted farm raised broilers on the grill, they don't know what they’re missing!

You sure did a great cleanup job on that plot, looks great (but brings back those memories of picking rock...). Chicken looks good, love that Cornell dipping sauce, had it most of my life and oh man so good. You all have a great day, see you have good rain coming.
