Best defense is not telling people or bragging about that you collect bullion and have alot of gold or silver at home. And after that you can hide it on hard to find places in your home. Regular burglars will not look for hidden gold when they break in and will probably just steal what they can see. So if it's hidden well they might not find it.

Reading the comments, I don't recall anyone saying to hide or build the gold into the house's foundation. If you are a DIY type of guy, you can construct areas in the floors, walls, ceilings, etc. that look to the naked eye that they are part of the foundation. A thief does not have enough time to tear down your whole house looking for these spots, especially if they are not conspicuous. I read a story recently that a woman bought a house and decided to have the bathroom renovated, when the contractor tore down the walls there were a couple hundred thousand dollars in it from the previous owner (who may of passed away without telling anyone).

It seems like no one in the comments has heard of millimeter wave imaging at all, let alone that there are man-portable mm-wave imagers. Look it up. Summary: Uses wavelengths in the mm range, which is mid way between visible light and microwaves (radio waves.) To these, electrically insulating materials (brick, plaster, dry wood, cloth) are transparent. Metals and flesh are opaque. Used by police & security services to search/inspect luggage, people, buildings, at a distance. If you are trying to hide something metalic, you have to be aware of this technology.

Many people do not know that a 10 digit gps coordinates will get you within 1 square meter anywhere on earth. In the event that the military/government reduces gps signal (makes less specific). This will still get you within 25-100 meters. In the event the gps signal is completely cut off, you must take counter measures. If you are concerned about metal detectors place cache with a pvc pipe. Go to the hardware store and get a box of nails, washer, screws, whatever. Scatter them all around the cache about 10-25 meters. If anyone metal detects they will assume your cache is just more junk washers/screws and will leave the area. However, the metal bits can be used by you to help you find the cache location.

I eventually walked in on them and luckily they left quickly without an incident. After surveying everything they had taken and going through everything else that wasn't touched, I can tell you from experience they were definitely not interested in anything to do with painting materials and equipment, its as though it didn't exist. When he dug the hole 5 foot deep he put the gold at the bottom back filled 3 foot compacted the dirt then put the cat on top. Any robbers would be thrown off thinking it was a grave for a pet kitty.

@@unoriginalhazard Well, goodluck to him when one day he will no longer be able to dig it up, because of some changes in that area, or when someone else happens to find it, or when someone else sees him digging it up and points out it's not his land and calls the cops.
The moment you bury gold in land that isn't yours, it's no longer yours. It's that simple.
Imagine owning a house with some land and a random dude starts digging in your garden, because 5 years ago (before your house was build there) he buried some gold.
You expect me to believe most people would just let him do his thing on THEIR land?
And since he buried most of his gold at 1 place (while deversifying your wealth is crusial in all cases), he can lose most of his gold in 1 blow (no matter how small the odds are).
Everyone with more than half a brain (lets be honest, you know this aswell) knows that it is stupid to hold most of your wealth at 1 place. Defnitely a plce that isn't secure or even worse" *not even owned by yourself.*
So for that alone, he isn't a smart man.
You have to understand that people buy gold as store of value (longterm). You don't buy gold to trade it a couple days later to buy a TV or something.
It's wealth you don't need for years, decades or maybe you will never need it. One uses fiat for everyday spendings. Not gold, silver, etc.
Putting it in the ground that belongs to someone else, where you have absolutely no control over, for a long period of time, is not smart. Period.
If you honestly think this man did a smart thing (after what I pointed out), no offence, but your definition of "smart" is far from what it should be.

    • @sdbullion
      @sdbullion  Před 5 lety +5

We deal with this everyday in our own personal home stashes. 1,000 oz doesn't take up much space, like two men's shoe boxes at most if all coins, much less if bars. Between walls and in spots no one but a house owner (loved one) would know. Leave decoy stashes for worse case where some desperate house thief might score a few oz by ripping a cheap safe from your home. Document any serial numbers on bullion bars if you have them. You could even go as far as putting GPS booby trap of sorts built into packaging that a moron robber would take in a hurry. Home bullion insurance is also now available through our website as well for peace of mind. Not all in one spot, non-bank vaulting makes sense for those living in nations with ridiculous import export tax regimes, or for whales who are getting 6 figures and up in bullion and don't want that all in their homes.

My father was a doctor, we had a beautiful home but he lost it all and became poor, my fathers brother starved to death on the road looking for work, I was raised on goat milk in a tiny shack and what you don't know is that over 7,000,000 million Americans died from starvation during the great depression. @PearlPerlita Venegas why? it's hysterical bs. There is no proof anyone died from hunger in America. Vast majority of people were rural in those days (75% as of 1940 census) and no one starved in the country and small towns. They had plenty of relief and soup kitchens in the cities. To believe that this guy's adult relative 'starved to death on the road" is preposterous. People took care of each other back then, before we had forced tax confiscation by govt.
Speaking of relatives, I had a single, female relative who routinely fed guys who came by her house back then who were willing to help her plant something or fence fence posts, etc. same way all over the country.
