Thanks guys for requesting this awesome #1 hit from Survivor! I get pumped every time I hear and play it.
I used to teach this as a beginner song to my students. And the power chords would all be on the top E string because this made it easier for people to learn. After observing some live performances, it seems that the first 2 chords are actually played off the A string. Which would make sense considering you get a more bright and punchy sound from the thinner gauge strings and the positioning being closer to the nut.
I also used the think that the 3rd chord was a G5 power chord but after listening closely, I realized that it’s an Eb/G. (3rd fret E string, 6th fret A string).
I really enjoyed playing this tune and creating the backing track. It’s a fun song for beginners to learn! There are tougher songs in the works so stay tuned :)

As I was watching, I was thinking this would be a good beginner song. Nothing too difficult, has some good basics, and anyone can ride that C note on the A string, but to make it sound right it needs the feel that makes this song what it is.

Ah, great transcription 👍. Most CZcams-videos on EYE OF THE TIGER miss the Eb/G and the rhytmic differences in bar 10 compared to bar 6….the are NOT the same. Thumbs up for your very precise transcription. 👍👍👍

THANK YOU! Finally, the RIGHT way to play this song! That 8-8, 6-7, 8-8 riff I had to figure out on my own because everyone else was playing it 6-7-8, 6-7, 6-7-8 on the same strings, and I KNEW it went down one.
There is a lot of technique building blocks on this song. A good song for beginners to whet their appetites for solid rhythmic playing which is the most important thing to teach over anything.

Great cover! How to get such a clean picking sound? I always get that scratching noise which is annoying sometimes and it doesn't go away even if I hold the pick parallel to the string.

do you have any tips for guitarists who are learning guitar
Start off simple and learn how to play basic melodies on one string. Learn how to switch chords. Practice every day if only for a short time and harden the finger tips by just playing and messing around. :). If you love it, you will go back to it and it won't feel like practice. It never did for me anyway.
