"Bend string behind nut" Wow, now I finally know how that awesome sound was made, thx!
It surprised me too... I hadn't paid attention. ^_^
It was a common thing to do in country on a Fender Tele...not as easy to do on a Gibson! Sounds killer here!
@@PeterPug Yeah, the problem is it can't be done with a classic bend since it would raise the pitch even more...
The trick is clever, but can't be done on guitars with a floyd rose and a locked nut, for instance. Meaning it's hard to own a single guitar able to play any style !
@@Z80Man You can do it on a floyd rose, but it's just a matter of pulling the whammy bar up to raise the pitch. That's what I do when I've played it on my Ibanez with a floating bridge. And I swear I've seen Tony using the bar on a Vibrola SG to do the same thing
@@andjustjizzforall Sure. Sometimes you don't have much of a choice, like playing high pitch notes from Satriani parts on a 22 fret guitar... :p
I guess the fact you can't bend on the nut might have made people wonder how Tommy made this progressive sound on the Iron Man intro unless using a Floyd Rose...
This was the first song I learned on guitar when I started playing almost a year ago, revisiting it and finally being able to play the solo is a nice throwback
How long did you played guitar for being able to play this?
@@ArisDalianis well said a year ago this was his first song, then stated he revisited it and is now able to play the solo. Which means it took him around a year to have the experience to fully learn this song from start to finish. (solo included)
Me too but I can’t play the solo it’s too fast for me🎸
Brooo same!
@@aggelosmakris2920 lol
I thought bending the string behind the nut was my own thing while free-styling on my Stratocaster, never knew that it was a legit technique even used in popular songs. Made my day better, for sure :)
Same
*Angry John Mayer noises*
I'm sure you could do it on a whammy bar as well
I hate that every song I try to learn I can do every thing but the solo😭
Feel it
i guess most of the sabbath stuff is absolutely kindergarten except the solos. i was learning sweet leaf until i came to the solo. i am trying now iron man. i think its a little bit easier imo
You can do the solo. You must be diligent and persistent. Toni Iommi is no slouch. It might take you months or years. But after you get the first one, all the ones after will be accelerated. You must first figure out each note somehow. You should use guitar tabs to get your foot in the door, then practice putting phrases you can remember together, sometimes its 2 or 3 notes, sometimes more. Keep trying and try to the song. You must remember it all. Check out Chris Zoupa. He's the best.😉

Try the Ramones
my son is learning from your teaching. I know this song well from long ago, and helping him in his new guitar experience.
That's awesome! keep us updated on his progress!
I am a kid learning a electric guitar and playing iron man. I searched for a useful guitar video and this is what I found. I’m like; wow! This is exactly what I want.
JUST IN CASE FOR BEGINNERS: in the main riff after the power cord part instead of going 2 then 5 on the A you can go 7 on the E and then 5 on the A, makes it much easier if you have small hands like me. Also great vid man tone is defo a 10
Im a beginner and I dont know that stuff lol
@@igone738 so why are u here (not trying to be rude) i mean i thought people were here for tabs.
Not for beginners. The main riff is supposed to be played 7 on E, 5 on A and 5 on D
heh that's what the bass plays
More perks of knowing youe fretboard notes
WOW just WOW i have played the first part of this before but couldn't find the full solo, this one i have got to try my hardest.
As always awesome job, just 1 thing I want to point out: The Master of Reality, Mr. Iommi plays the main 2 riffs on the E string. Initially i played it like you, but then I switched when I found out. He said he prefers the E string because it sounds more just that little bit more "heavy"
Yea that’s what I was gonna say I don’t like the way it sounds when played on the a string I learned on the e and it’s just always stuck to me as the right way to play it even though it’s not that big a difference The Godfather of Metal even said in war pigs he will it the e string to sound heavy and powerful since there is only on guitar
Yh but it's probably more acurrate tone wise to play it this way as Tomy Iommi plays on 8-32.
It definitely sounds heavier like that but the main reason he plays it like that and generally prefers playing riffs high up on the low E string is because thats the best/most comfortable way to play guitar with his finger tip prosthetics
Great lesson and love your tone, you nailed it so i have subscribed!
Absolutely amazing mate. Great lesson. Well done.
Thanks bro
This is the third riff i learnt in guitar! Thanks to this video i could learn the interlude as well, the solo is still farfetched for me but at least i can play most of the song
Legends, giving a legendary performance. Ozzy, Randy, and the others who had part in the entire experience... truly a spectacular performance.
God bless you, good Sir!
Greetings from Mexico City! 🇲🇽
Damn I'm in love with your guitar
Perfect playing dude I love it
Watching this in 2021 and it’s really helpful. And great playing style. Thank you.
Why all the coments are of weeks ago if the video is one year ago?? 🤔🤨🧐

Dude you ROCK GREAT SONGS AND SWEET PLAYING 🎴 MUCH LOVE FROM HUNTINGTON WV 🙏❤️
The coolest riff in history 🤘🏻🖤
Nice job, can hardly waite to get started,,,I am working on 2 pieces by Mozart, Rondo ala Turk and symphony 40, and my insane side is working on Hotel California,,,I'm going to transcribe this tab into my journal right now,,,thank you for the tutorial.
Wish I could save these. You do some of the best on youtube. Will do the patreon to support content like this! Thank you.
You can save these on CZcams and even make a playlist. It’s not too obvious, but I so appreciate that feature. Right where the thumbs up or down rating feature is scroll that section to the right and at the end is the Save feature. Make a Guitar Tutorials playlist and save awesome tutorials like this to it and subscribe so you get all the new stuff too.
Thank you for uploading all of these videos. It helps so much!
Nice lesson. And obviously, great song!
Great job. Thank you for the lesson.
Thank you for this video. You helped me level up on guitar :)
i finally master the solo, thanks for this video !
Wow thank you I finally know how to play this awesome song
You played this perfectly
AMAZING!!! 🤩🤘🔥🎸🔥
I’m a beginner guitar player, and this helps tremendously cuz I’m stuck in the intro! Thank you! ☺️🙏✨🤘✨
Idk how to play on my electric guitar tbh
@@empty_v0id it’s the same as playing on an acoustic, but using a pick.
@@analozada9475you can pick an acoustic and finger style an electric though
Thanks for the video you helped me a lot
Awesome!
On a guitar spree today, learned the riff, sounds so good but a beginner can play it!
Thanks, don’t know how to play guitar but now I want to
Just started learning guitar I go over to my uncle’s house to learn and this is the first song I’m gonna be learning
Thx it’s really helpful
Dope Lesson!!!!
Thanks!!! tonight i Will learn this 😄
God these are good. I might just be brave enough to FINALLY try the song that got me tryng to play guitar in the first place b ack in 85 crazy train :). If i could learn that one from start to finish, i could die happy :)
a dude called LambChopper678 has a great tutorial for Crazy Train on his channel, lots of detail -very helpful. Good luck, rock on & all that good stuff!
Nice, firm guitar sound...sounds like TI-pickup set :)
Oh yes! 🤘🏻🎸
This was the first song i learned on my electric guitar thank you so much for the great toturial
That's awesome!
Thanks, Dude!
*I remember i learned this tune back in 78*
yeeess ive been waiting for this one
I think Tony Iommi plays the main riff on the E string
Bravo!!!
Ima try this song
class guitarist is mr tabs
Awesome video! Would you mind sharing how your pickup heights are set up? Thanks!
good cover, mate! Can you also make a cover on Running Wild? It would be interest.
I Just guess Iommi did that bend behind the Nut with his Index fretting finger (right handed version would be Index left hand finger). And fretting hand ring finger on 2nd fret of D-string (E one octave higher) - Iommi probably would use his little finger for that. That way, the higher E keeps ringing and the low E note clashes Out and back into unisom ... At least I believe I can listen to a E one octave higher that doesn't bend on the original Record. Not sure If that one octave higher E is an harmonic/feedback from the heavy Distortion or If It was really fretted by Iommi...
That Channel is great btw.
awesome!
Awesome video🎸🎸🎸🎸👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
You bet!
FANTASTIKKKKKK OKAY
Nice bro
Can someone please explain why it's so hard to find tabs for the original solo? Like 95% of the places I went were billsh*t, inaccurate or just missing. Thanks Mr tabs for saving my day again
Excellent
as someone who just started playing electric guitar, pretty beginner, friendly just need to try the solo
Every time i hear this The Road Warriors are running out to the ring destroying jobbers in 30 seconds or less.
Отличное видео. Спасибо.

La meilleur chaine de tablature guitare ;)
Toni Iomi was so technically gifted
This is the way I usually play the riff. But I use my secret tone to spice it up.

LYRICS
I am iron man
Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
We'll just pass him there
Why should we even care?
He was turned to steel
In the great magnetic field
Where he traveled time
For the future of mankind
Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfold
Now the time is here
For iron man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved
Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge
Heavy boots of lead
Fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron man lives again
Yes i totally can do it know! (Is there a video that goes more in depth?)
Lovely bro 👏👏🎶👏👏🎸🇮🇳💝
epic
what fingers do u guys use for power chords... just asking cuz some people use index and pinky and some ppl use index and ring
I do a bit of both. Like, it depends on what I'm playing I guess. And even when I'm playing some Nirvana, I'll instinctively play the power chords the Kurt Cobain way.
I mostly use index pinky.
not a bad solo
Why I saw this VDO. I wanna have some SG..!!??
Yeahhhh...!!
One of the first riffs that I learned... but the only thing that I cant learn is the solo ;-;
Not bad. i play it 7th and 9th on the E and A strings then go to 5th and 7th on the A and D strings it sounds the same and less fret to cover. But other than that excellent.

BS 4ever ! 🎸
Dude this song is definitely not bullshit what are you even talking about
@@danz2677 Lol I know
@@STSGuitar16 thank goodness you were being sarcastic
can almost play the solo in tempo at .75 speed
this solo is far harder than the wizard or nib's solo
Imma need your amp settings loving the 70s type sound
For all tones and effects I use software called Amplitube Max. This software contains many virtual amps and pedals. The plug-ins are available to all my Patreon subscribers so you that if you have Amplitube Max yourself, you can get exactly the same tone as me at home. I also offer screenshots of the virtual amps and pedals so that if you don’t have Amplitube you can attempt to replicate the tone using whatever equipment you have available.

i saw a video with Tony once where he showed how to do the intro. Bending behind the nut, but he also hit another string (i thought) open at the same time. I can hear in your video that there is another string being played (second guitar doubling?) other than the low E behind the nut. Can you tell us exactly how you are playing that intro?
Open A. Sometimes I tend to bend the A together with the E too instead of leaving it alone but that is just personal taste.
Man! What year model SG is that? I play a lot of Sabbath at gigs and use an Epi Iommi SG. Sabbath bloody Sabbath has me tuned way down to C#. Would like to get a similar SG in white for gigging. Great Lesson as well 😊
Good video ! Can you do eruption please?
Kevin Renard I definitely would but I feel like my version of Eruption is not an accurate one to tab out.
Hey buddy, I will try my best to do a good version of Eruption for you and get it out within a couple of weeks!
Holy slides
GOODD
This should have been the first search result
Good🤘
How do you do the intro thing where it gradually gets lower pitched in the beginning
Bend the string behind the nut with your thumb, then gradually let go. Watch the video carefully!
I like to play main riff on 5-6 strings, because it sounds like first amps.
That’s how Iommi plays it.
In the intro he also adds the E note on the D string second fret to the low E bends.
You are truly the reason I know the songs I know thanks 🙏
Nice do you do sweet leaf? 🍁👊💨
I used to know it once upon a time. Definitely wanna do more Sabbath.

Nice guitar tones. Mind sharing your gears set up?
Could you make the ‘Pan man’ tab video by Tommy Emmanuel feat. Slavs Grigoryan please?
What gear did you use for this recording AMP/pedals?
interesting question; I was wondering about the same thing. However no one ever writes that kind of stuff. I myself use the following (ps: according to Les Paul) strap is set to Rhythm + overdriven a little over half way.
Wow
