This might be one of my favorite reviews of yours because of that sharp editing. Splicing together the clips between the android and the director admitting his guilt to create the full story was just one example of how well this one was thought out.
It paints the painful, but resonant story of how far humanity will go to salvage something, be it pride, love, the truth, etc. And bringing it all back to the Russian team who found the wreckage and the space-bound casket was the perfect bow on top of the wrapping. Excellent job hooking me into this game with narration and editing alone! This was well worth the wait :)

37:20 yes, YES. THANK you. The preservation of games and the extension to preservation of childhoods is one of the most important things. People have to remember, these were made by people with aspiring dreams! People who wanted to give you the best kind of game they knew how to do, and some of these games even have historic ties. some created entire genres, others perfected it. some were made to tell a story, and some were supposed to be the most brutal ball bustingly hard games you've ever played. Whatever the story is, these games mean something to somebody.
I have entire complete libraries of different consoles, spanning from a multitude of companies from nintendo, sega, atari, and even obscure ones that you probably don't even know about. Ones that I didn't even know about! I'm not keeping them on my computer to just flip the bird off to some company like nintendo, I'm doing this because I care.
Some of these games never have that glorious second return. Some don't even see the light of day, and are never released. Some have the earlier builds of their games found and leaked on the internet. These things we can all look at, learn from, and appreciate what was put into them. doesn't matter if the game is good or bad you can still learn something about them. some of the most interesting stuff came out of bad games. And from learning what we could about these games, some people even got to create their own games. They make them and now sell them to you. Games that you may very well praise to the heavens.
So please, help preserve these dreams, these childhoods, these *Games*. Because they are worth preserving. They are worth being cared for. They are worth it to everybody.
Tl;dr: game preservation is very important, and it's up to you to help save these. One day, the internet is going to be the only place to have them.

Yes!! Games deserve to be cherished and preserved. So much work is put into them, and too often are the people who made them forgotten. There is always something to be found in a game, no matter how flawed it is. Some of my favorite games were huge commercial failures, but they still mean a lot to me. To everyone out there helping to preserve games, thank you for your hard work.

Yes exactly! One of my favorite examples is a game on the Sega Saturn called Panzer Dragoon Saga, a truly amazing game most people have never played. @@maxaroni39 same here dude! Some of my favorites are just some of the worst games imaginable.
Sonic 06, just being one, has so many things that I never knew were in it. There are ways you can glitch into this weird zone where you're stuck in the forest with nothing but a couple of stop signs in front of you. There are ways you can get Omega to hover past where his stage is supposed to end and be able to reach the background. And you can walk on it!
these kind of things are some of my favorites because, well you're not supposed to be there obviously. It's fun to break a game. And a game to be so easily manipulated, makes me feel smart almost. As the AVGN put it, I can be my very own game graphic glitch gremlin.

Atlus themselves was surprised how well a re-release of Persona 4 Golden sold in Steam....when that was already a very popular game. People have been clamoring for re-releases of games like the Original PS2 Xenosaga's, and though I dont know how hard it is to make a game work on different hardware; it's got to be worth the money and effort for games or even companies that have gotten alot more traction since their original re-release. ArcSys saw that and basically said "okay, we'll make it an official update to the game so you dont have to make it a mod". Theres also characters like Kos-mos from Xenosaga or Morrigan (and often Darkstalkers as a serious) who get constant references in modern projects even if they havent had their own game in years. Sure, not every company does that, but other companies do. Freaking BUBSY and SHAQ-FU came back due to their infamy, which was shown through fan engagement.

I know I'm a few months late, but if you want a game similar to Echo Night, I would highly recommend the Sexy Brutale and The Return of the Obra Dinn, two games that have a similar death exploration concept, but handle it *very* differently. In the Sexy Brutale, you explore a mansion hosting a massive party, during which all of the guests are killed in various ways at different times, you have to observe what happens during their deaths and figure out what you need to change to save them. In Return of the Obra Dinn, you play an insurance investigator for the East India company, and you have to figure out what happened to the crew of the recently returned ship the Obra Dinn by using a magic pocket watch to see the exact moment of someone's death, with the puzzle being figuring out who everyone is and how they died. Neither is *exactly* like Echo Nights, but both have a similar concept of exploring death and learning about people from how they die

But as the consoles went on, the VC shrunk and shrunk until we were left with Nintendo Switch Online having us begging for goddamn SCRAPS at this point.
And hey, Wii U ports because no one bought the Wii U! ...That because they're treating it like the Wii U never existed are selling for 60 bucks. Oh well, we buy all sorts of collections five times over all the time, one single normal purchase isn't that bad.

There was a special something that I couldn't figure out that really kept drawing me back. I finally figured it out! His voice over work is on a different level. There is not over produced script read sounding voice track, but something that feels real and gets you into the mood for the video. His horror videos all have that slow melancholy feel to them, putting you in edge. His platformer videos are more exuberant and pronounced, giving you that fun vibe. This video just really makes me want to just port some old games to newer consoles. So many games that could be given new life that just aren't because nobody can play them in an affordable capacity. Some have never been released outside of Japan! That speech about game preservation really resonates with me, since it frustrates me as well, so many amazing games that hundreds of thousands of people want to play are locked on older consoles. It almost makes me want to start up my own company to port these games.
I am interested in playing so many of the games NitroRad has talked about in these Halloween specials Fatal Frame , Silent Hill, Siren, Clock Tower, Haunting Ground, Rule of Rose, and now Echo Night. These games look interesting and I would love to play them. But I can't, they're all either absurdly expensive, hard to get a hold of, not localized, or have really bad ports on that are almost two generations old. And it's not even just these games.
    For Example:
I am a big fan of Fire Emblem, but playing most of the games is an exercise for your wallet. Only the 3DS games and Three Houses are reasonable to purchase. You are at MINIMUM paying original retail price. But Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance will run you anywhere from $150-$300. Its sequel is cheaper, but that runs anywhere from $60-$90. I'm glad I got my copy of Radiance back when it was $110. It's absurd that a series that so wildly popular now (Three Houses sold over 3 million units) to have entries that expensive. The main character of those games Ike is one of the most popular characters in the entire series. It makes no sense why they haven't ported them. And you can't even get almost half of the games here in North America.
Popular series have titles you can't play anymore. It's so maddening, I just want to do something about it.

I believe emulation serves not as a band aid for game preservation, but as the ultimate solution. Intellectual property holders should honestly be forced to allow games that are released on hardware that is no longer sold to be emulated. And if i'm being honest, they should even assist with the development of the emulators.
Aside from some sparse examples here and there, emulation is generally better in every way compared to original hardware anyway. So even if they DO release old software on new hardware, 80% of the time, it's still emulated, AND is still worse than what I could be playing on my PC regardless of how cheap the rerelease is. Like bro, I got nintendo switch online, and I have all these fun games that I can play for free as part of the service, but despite already having access to those games, I still choose to play them on my PC because the experience is still way better. For example, super dodge ball does NOT slow down nearly as much on my PC as it does on the switch.
I legitimately can't imagine playing an HD remake of Smash bros. Melee when dolphin exists. Like yeah, the game might have improvements to the graphics, but knowing nintendo, they'll remove things that I enjoyed about the game that they deem to be "bugs". And shit man, on dolphin I still get better graphics than the original on GC, PLUS the ability to use my preferred controller, access to mod support, better compatibility with different displays, and even improved performance in games that chugged on native hardware (and will still likely chug on the often underpowered current hardware). Not to mention, that making these remasters isn't really preservation anyway, it's literally a completely different release.
I just think emulation and even piracy of old games should be looked at differently. The potential for companies to lose imaginary money should not outweigh the preservation of the software, and efforts to ban piracy of old games (and arguably even new games) takes away all incentive for companies to make compelling re-releases.

So in otherwards. Nintendo needs to be forced to go 3rd party.

@@GatorRay no. They can put whatever restrictions they want on their current games, but players should be allowed to pirate games that are no longer sold on their original hardware by the property holder. I say this because re-releasing old games as ports does not promote actually improving the game, or good business practice, it's almost always a shit port running on an emulator anyway, and the potential for them to "maybe" re-sell these games in the future with no real improvements gives these companies leverage to use in their dumbfuck ongoing legal battle against pirating old games and 3rd party emulators as a whole by claiming they "take away a significant portion of their revenue"
Considering these ports are almost always complete trash, this is revenue that they probably shouldn't even have access to in the first place.
On top of that, official rereleases are fucking horrible for "preservation". They only port one version of the game without giving players access to older patches, they often make a "NEW" "BETTER" version of the game with updated button prompts for modern consoles, upscaled textures, or fixed bugs and spelling errors. And if that's a suitable substitute for the much more professionally handled preservation efforts of sites like sega-retro, emuparadise, and wikipedia, then you are blinded by your love for unfeeling megacorporations.

I spent 400+ on the silent hill series. And I agree with nitro here. Games need to be properly catalouged so people don't have to spend 400 bucks to play a game series. Great video and I may just check this out someday when I have cash to spare. But not today.

That was amazing; both the scripting/editing for the video in question AND the in-game story well told.
I know this took you a longer time than you expected but I just want you to know: it was 100% worth the wait my dude.
Also YES on the games preservation; that junk is frustrating as hell!
