Yes drishyam did 200 crores. Mainly because of three reasons no1 the original movie was never dubbed in Hindi. No 2 original was an direct ott release excluding those who watch on CZcams or cinemas and no 3. Most of the audiences watch ajay wali drishyam before mohanlal’s original so organically we were more connected to those characters and wanted to see their journey and what transpired in their lives. Drishyam 1 was a success organically it’s sequel will be a success too. And there was a forth reason too that was akshay khanna and tabu’s performances. Remakes will fell flat if Bollywood still tries to make more. Except drishyam which recent attempts were successful? Nikama, shahzada, hit, jersey, cutputli, vikram vedha, mili all perform poorly at the box office. This formula won’t work now thanks to ott and goldmines 😂

Malayalam didnt dub the film.............
Hindi producers purchased the remake rights as soon as the film was announced and they didnt care about the script of the film. They just wanted the brand name drishyam 2.....................

Rohit shetty has done most remake of tollywood movies. Thanks to covid that people are watching South hindi dubbed version and now came to know how Bollywood started copying it. Not all bollywood movies are copied but in past 2-3 years most are remake of south.

As a director ....they should consider all the perspective and direction of the audience....then they will not let u down....if u r comfertable in ur segment then this will definately lead u to the loss...bcz audience also change their taste after some time and always want something unique...

Mr. Rohit Shetty, I have been going through your interview and how proudly you talk about Bollywood movies and try to let down the South Industry. Most of your movies are either copied scripts from South. The only difference between you and other Bollywood directors who copy is that you smartly ensure you take bits and pieces from different movies and then use it in your script. Movies which are copy of South Movies:
1. All the Best
2. Singham (remake of Tamil Singham)
3. Singham 2 (copy of Ekalavyan: Suresh Gopi starrer)
4. Simbaa (again copy of multiple movies)
Coming back to Drishyam 2, it ran and became a hit because the original was a direct OTT release. No dubbed version is available on internet. There was a craze among the fans to watch Dhrishyam 2 due to the long gap between the sequel and first part. Plus only Ajay Devgun could do justice to the role which Mohanlal played.
I dont agree with his point of big budget is needed for big hits...there are many south movies which are made with low budget but still a blockbuster.
