    I had 3 of these on hand to repair and both with the correct voltages didn't work, both with error 43. I reballed both and one still worked for a few hours but after a while it started to lose driver, which for me means it wasn't problem of the BGA balls between the chip and the PCB, but the BGA balls between the DIE and the chip substrate, and maybe not a problem with the HBM itself. Good job.

    I have a Radeon 7 still working and I ran it on water with an EK Nickel Plexi RGB block for 3 years disassembling and cleaning the block every year and recently converted it back to air with some mid range paste. It’s a little bit borderline thermally so I underclock it and tweaked the fan profile to be more quiet. It still works after all this screwing around. I am looking to upgrade in the next 6 months.
    For my daily OC on water I ran it at 2000Mhz 1134mV, +20% power slider and 1100Mhz on the mem. Stock is 1800Mhz, 1068mV? And 1000Mhz. I also experimented with custom vBios to raise the power limit to absurd levels. Strangely, the card basically ate the power and provided the same performance. But my point is I did all this crap and it still lives while I’m hearing of every other Radeon 7 being a corpse. Kind of interesting.

    Code 43 I also get when the driver is expecting a secondary device on the video card that is not functioning/present, the hdmi sound device that is intergrated.
    If the driver does not see it there but expects it, you get a code 43.
    This happens especially if you're using virtualization with a passthrough but then it obviously does not have to mean your card is defective, it just means there's no pci device present on that address in the VM

    9:32 thanks for pointing out that you're using a donor board of the same model with a dead core.
    I always wondered how the heck you're supposed to buy the micro components, or where you get dead board *that can't be repaired*.
    Do clients give you their board with a dead core for free? Or do you have to buy it back from them?
    I'd like to try to repair some old board to practice, but I'm not confortable going to the garbage dump since it's illegal in my country (France).

      @TechCemetery  Před 2 lety +2

      For an R9 390? I think there's a fair chance it can be repaired. When I speak about the number of dead Radeon VIIs, I'm mostly talking about the ones that are non-working. As in 90% of non-working Radeon VIIs have dead cores and are not fixable. I don't know the actual ratio of non-working to working Radeon VIIs.

    i have one that doesn't post, with no video output, 5 beeps from motherboard saying it doesn't recognize the GPU. Would you assume this to be a dead core also?? It wasn't used for mining, always kept a very aggressive fan curve, no water damage or anything of that sort. It did start intermittently losing video output, but worked fine after a re-boot. And then colors were distorted if HDR was turned on in Windows. Reds became purple but it was fixable via Radeon software.
    Should I try to reflow? Or is it worth the effort? I can't tell if it's code 43 because it can't boot into windows or even the bios.
