  • 10 things all Filipinos say include Filipino words and what they really mean. There is a language barrier between mixed couples, and what we meant is not always what you heard! Do you really understand your Filipina? Do you understand what we really mean? Then speak like a local, and use Filipino English! Understanding what we said vs what we meant will let you talk like a local in no time! ‪@TheFilipinaPea‬

      so u had Pea on the couch...good; Pea on the floor,...good; eagerly anticipating Pea on the "stripper" pole. Stop typing Ha ha ha. I remembered the video of dances of the Philippines produced by u and Jen. I could not remember the name of the dance and I googled popular dances of the Philippines and all these videos of young beautiful ladies working the pole came up. So as a U tuber chronicling life in your country I was hoping to see a video of u working the pole. Considering your ability to pick up a coin with your toes, climb a coconut tree, and the hair flip you would be a natural. Two sides to every coin. Good part.. ZOOM past 100k in subscribers. Bad part u would trigger over 100 cardiac incidents in U.S. Super bad part would be the 5k of TAMPO incidents released on ex-pats by their partners.😁😁😁

    As a 'westerner' who has traveled SE Asia, Filipinos understand English very well, which is one reason I love to go there. I think the Pea has touched upon something that is common in SE Asia and is frustrating for us to comprehend. As we are direct and seek simple straightforward answers, other cultures put a priority on not losing face or being embarrassed. I found this irritating, because of my position as a business owner, I was used to raising my voice and getting a quick, responsive reply. Definitely a No-No in Asia. Loud Americans and Australians, take heed...(I grew up in both countries).

  • @markbrown1622
    @markbrown1622 Před 2 lety +26

    With the first example "You didn't already go to the store, did you?" The filipina is using the correct grammar by answering "Yes", but westerners are the ones who mix it up. If he asked, "Did you already go to the store?", she would answer correctly and say "No" It's probably has more to do with the way we ask the question in the negative that it gets confusing, but her grammar is correct
    It really says a lot about the quality of English classes in the Philippines. They are getting the grammar right.
    I will try it out on my gf. "honey, you didn't already give the birdie a molmol, did you?" She will have to answer "yes" because she did not. . lol "no mo molmol for your birdie till the Philippines opens again." damn pandemic, so umay!

    Great video from an old married couple of 36 years. When we moved to the states my wife was shocked when she threw her first dinner party and was called a hostess by my good family and her new new friends. We all had a good laugh when I explained to my wife and guests. I like joking around and I see myself Saying I prefer parrot fish next time Filipina are talking fish. Thank you lol.

    Running 2 years na I've been away from Phils, and you have shown me that my "Taglish" is a bit rusty, but not gone. I enjoy the nuance differences and accent (mine is Kano accent ofc), and I 'char' with it at any chance. I am a king of 'Bola' & jokes. Been told, I am baliw and pasaway but never 'umay'.
    I must say I have never seen any 'Molmol' opportunities in any wet market, always walking away with just maybe 2 melons or 2 young apples, and my 'Birdie' in hand but never any smiles. huhuhu WTF, Philippines is, "Land of Smiles", is it not?
    The wet market is most confusing place, Milkfish, (Fish don't have boobs), and Bangus sounds like an invitation to assault me & my friend(s). There is a word in Bisayan that I use at restos when asking for the 'Bill'. With my Kano accent instead of saying, "Bill Out Please", I raise my hand and say, "BILAT please". I see who in the resto is from the Middle Islands by the turned heads.
    Remember the Moo Moo only come for the children, so be BOLD!

    I spent 6 weeks in your fair city visiting my old shipmate James Madden who has a lovely Pina wife and son. The whole while I was there Jim was recovering from a health challenge at the VA hospital in Hawaii and he asked his wife to squire me around. She and her son treated me like family taking me to Ynot for brewed coffee and a bowl of wonderful exotic fruit every morning for breakfast. I began noticing a lot of Spanish in the Tagalog dialect and since I spoke a little Spanish (and even taught first year Spanish to American high school students). So one morning as I was texting Nessa I began with an endearing Spanish greeting, "Mi Querida ... "" I thought I was clever and feeling proud that I could speak a part of the language that she and her son spoke. When I found out what this idiomatic phrase meant in the Philippines, I blushed for at least two days ... hahahaha

    Spot on lol, I recall a time when my then girlfriend (now my wife) was recalling an incident involving her friend. It began as he, transformed into she, but involved one person. Confusing? You bet. Another time, I made dinner on one of the rare occasions when I get motivated to cook. I made pork chops with mashed potatoes and steamed corn.
    I called her into the dining room to sit down and eat but as she sat down she looked at me and asked me where was the pork. Incredulous, I replied that it was on her plate. She stared at me as if I was an alien and said, no it wasn't. She thought I was crazy.
    After going back and forth (as in "who's on first"), she got up out of frustration, stormed off to the kitchen and returned with a fork in her hand. I had apparently forgotten to bring out the cutlery...
    The funniest occasion occurred when we were driving to her cousins house. It was my first time going there and as we approached her street, I asked which side her house was on. Dead silence... I turned to ask her again and she had this look on her face where I assumed she wanted a kiss.
    I slowed down and gave her a quick peck on the cheek but she got all animated, calling me crazy. She continued: "What are you doing? If my cousin sees she's gonna think I'm so liberated? OMG!" Rather stunned, I tell, why were you sticking out your lips? I thought you wanted a kiss! She then shouts "NO! Are you crazy? I'm showing you where her house is!!!" ...and so began my Filipino immersion crash course education. 🤣🤣🤣

    My wife will often say "I pee yet" before going out, meaning she wants to go to the CR right away. I realized why after learning the word "pa". I certainly feel "kilig", I don't look at small children who don't know me because I might give them "usog", and I'm glad that my wife is usually not "tampo"! "Might that is his husband", "Her wife is not here", and "I did not sawed it yet" are some of the things I've heard my wife say. However, the best one, my real favorite is "We doesn't know what we doesn't know"! By that she means something like "We shouldn't worry about what might happen". If she has been unwell, but then feels better, she will say "It's not my calling yet", meaning she hasn't had the call from the Lord to go to Heaven! Because we speak Cebuano, for "Kinda" or "something like" we will say "murag".
