My dad was born in 1917, and as a toddler used to go around singing this song’s chorus. His family started calling him Jada as a nickname. That became his nickname for his entire life. In 1969, our family started a girls camp and we started trying to think of a name, we decided on naming it Camp Jada for dad. My mother also decided to create a new explanation for the name JADAx3 (Jean and Dain and Jim and Dain and Janice and Daughters amore’). I always knew what the chorus was, but never knew there were stanzas also. It has been great hearing the whole song. Thank you so much.
As a small child, My Great Grandmother who was born in 1906 would sing and dance to this all the time and I would join her. We spent a lot of time together and I can remember this song like it were yesterday. She passed away in 1981. I was ten when we lost her to cancer.
My dad was a wwi veteran and i remember as a young boy going through his photo albums when he was in france and playing this 78 that he had. thank you for sharing the video.
This record ….year before my mother was….. satisfying to put the things together! Thanks for sharing this….. looking backward… And forward to 2022! 🙌👂The New Year to everyone
I have had this song in my head my whole life and never knew what it was. I just kept saying the lyrics to myself in my head all these years (I was born in 1950) and never thought they were the real words. This is great to discover this now and hear the song in it's entirety. There must have been a remake of it or something in the early 50s and I just memorized it as a child. Or it may have been on a commercial that was playing at the time.
My mother used to sing parts of this song when I was a kid (I was born in 1953). She must have learned it from her mother, who lived through WWI. Like you, @John Allen, I’ve had the chorus in my head most of my life! Tonight I was singing the chorus again as I walked with my dog in the woods, and decided to look it up. Thank you, Mr. Knight, for going to the trouble to put up this lovely old record for us. You’ve answered some questions I’ve always had. Greatly appreciated!
I was told this song was written by my father’s Uncle Johnny Byrne and sold for a case of beer!!?? 😮 The story is believable to me because of many reasons... I have a recording of my dad singing in the 1940’s and there was time left on the record and someone- “Uncle Johnny” - started singing “Jada”...I also have many letters that are very quirky like the lyrics of this song. The other quirky song he supposedly wrote and sold was “Tip Toe through the Tulips”. There may never be proof but in my heart this is true❤️ I have seen so many versions of both songs, I am in awe and so grateful. My family radiates artistic talent in music, art and acting.
Super sounding reproducer! This is just a fun and endearing song by Arthur! I recently found a copy on Victor too! His early songs are always great to hear! Thanks for sharing it!!
My wife and I just watched an episode of My Three Sons titled Total Recall where "Bub" William Frawley could not forget an old love. He was singing this song in his sleep and the rest of the family tried to help him. This is a great old song thanks or sharing.
Interesting trivia regarding this song: The actress Jada Rowland played the character of Amy Ames Britton Kincaid on the soap opera "The Secret Storm" for 20 years before moving to "The Doctors" in the mid 1970s. Jada Pinkett Smith's mom was a fan of Ms. Rowland and informed her that she named her daughter after her. However, in those days, there was no social media, etc. to hear the correct pronunciation of Ms. Rowland's name, so she pronounced it "JAY-DAH" rather than "JAAH-DAH." Nice bit of trivia re: this song. :)
Throughout the 1960s this melody was the radio/TV jingle for Chuck Davis Chevrolet in Houston. "Davis, Davis, Chuck Davis Chevrolet...Can and will make you a better deal, on America's number one automobile ...." They are still around, too.
I remember some guy on tv more than 60 years ago singing this. It was around lunch time or early afternoon daily.I guess it was sort of his theme song.
James: So it is an old record spray painted gold. Carlos: That is disappointing. James: Yeah... Gustavo: I Will Kill BOTH OF YOU!!! "Anyone who's seen Big Time Rush will get this"

Thank you Timo! Glad you enjoyed it!!!
At summer camp we would sing in dining hall after meals. Always ended singing "Cookie, Cookie, Listen while we sing to you" for the cooks.

makeminefreedom Thanks for sharing that!
Wonderful! The sound is much better than I expected! I like these old songs -- they just don't make them like that any more.
Thank you Jigger! I love these old songs too!!
I don’t have the record but I do have the portable gramophones! This is a great tune!
1918!!! Thanks! I believe I celebrate your gramophone before. So well preserved!
