This guide will help to fix the microphone problems on any iPhone, if the problem is hardware you can use this how to and confirm if the microphone is broken or if it is a software problem.
If it is a software problem, it is very likely to be the phone noise cancellation that has gone wrong.
The simple fix is to disable this feature and restart the phone and see if that fixes the problem. If it does fix it, you could try turning the noise cancellation back on and it will probably work fine again, but if not just leave it off.

Kyle Thompson Best Buy told me that you could purchase a new SIM card. That could be the reason. I didn’t go that route, I ended up buying a new phone 😭
Just a thought but get the phone quite cold and reboot and see if it works. That would almost confirm the solder on the chip is the problem. When it is colder the chip shrinks a little bit and will allow it to make contact it seems that when the phones get hot if there is any loose connections or partially loose connections with the expansion of the heat that is what causes the problem

I’m not getting the noise cancellation as a choice in my setting and I can’t hear callers and they can’t hear me either at all .. and Siri isn’t working either
Sounds like you have major issues! If you use a headset plugged in does that work correctly? It might be your headset jack is stuck or dirty? Try it and let us know.

From the research I have been doing it might be you phones mic ic chip that has either become unsoldered or corrupted. Google search for iPhone mic ic chip and you can see if the description of the problem matches what you are having happen to your device.

My speaker works when I’m watching CZcams or playing music. But during calls they can’t hear me and i can’t hear then unless i use my earpod. I use iphone 7. Please help me!

FIXED!!!! My little brother had an issue where his microphone wasn't working at all, couldn't record video or even take pictures, everything else worked fine though, I turned the phone off for like 15 minutes and it worked normally again, might not always work but it's worth the shot, hope this helps some of y'all!!

My phone was fine then one day it like stopped. It would cut in and out of my aux cord and now it doesnt recongize my aux. I have plugged in headphones and it doesnt work. When I make calls I cant hear the other person and they cant hear me and when i sc and take videos there is no sound. I can still play music and it sounds fine.

After 12.1.2 update, the microphone began to cause problems with ordinary calls and in the application Siri . It's interesting that when I send voice messages or record voice memories without any problems. I did itune restore the system. Little things improved, but they still do not work well .
Whenever I revived a call I couldn’t hear the other person and they couldn’t hear me, this fix truely helped! Thank you!

If the noise cancelling is the problem you may find the microphone by the camera is blocked. It will need cleaning out. You can use a tooth brush. If it’s blocked it cancels out all the sound.

I have the same issue in my iphone 7, but unfortunately I can’t find “Phone Noise Cancellation” in iOS 11
in settings then general settings, then accessibility then scroll about half way down to hearing then toggle phone noise cancellation.

Same. There is no such thing
In my case nobody can hear me on incoming calls and I can't hear them too. The same thing on making calls. The iOS camera app does nothing, app is freezing and can't do photos/videos, on third party apps using camera, like Snapchat can take photo but still cannot record video. Reboot by volume down and power helps only if I will use microphone rights after booting it up. Changing iOS version dosn't help anything. I have changed bottom microphones with dock connector and flex with camera. Changing back to original ones does not resolve the issue. What can I do?

Noise cancellation was not a setting on my device. When on the phone with somebody, they can’t hear me and I can’t hear them anymore. Siri can’t hear me either.
IF a factory reset won't restore the noise cancelling, then it is likely your IC chip is damaged or not making contact. Take it to a local repair shop or Apple store and see if there is any warrant left on it.
OH MY GOD!!!! I've been having a problem with my camera, calls, voice memos, and all apps that use any of the 3 microphones... i went to apple they couldn't help, they said there's a problem with the IC chip and I basically needed to replace my iphone 7 for 400 euros. then I went to a iphone service shop, they wanted to change the audio chip for 90 euros , no warranty. so I just put my simcard in my old iphone6. I read too many articles, watched too many videos. BUT THANK GOD I STUMBLED NTO THIS VIDEO. I turned that bitch off and BAMM!!! the phone is working againnnnn!!!! THANK YOU.

did you try the headset jack cleaning already? If so and it still doesn't work, then i definitely consider returning them.
Similar to this video Siri can here me but the microphone hardly picks up anything in calls or in recordings I’ve been to Genius Bar and they’ve told me to use headphones which is highly inconvenient. Do you know a way I can fix this problem
So if you record your voice and play it back doesn't it sound normal volume? Does Siri hear you normally or do you have to put the phone quite close to your mouth?

Try recording with the apple headphones connected. Let me know what happens okay?
i tried putting in some headphones and they wouldn’t work but worked on my sisters iphone. I have a 7 and she has a 5 mine has the headphones with the charging port (no extension) and my music and audio would just play out like if they weren’t connected
Sounds like the charging port / headset jack is either damaged or dirty. That might be why the audio isn't being routed correctly. Try carefully cleaning the port with a toothpick or some other non conductive material. I'll do some more research and see if there is another option. But clean it up and let me know if that helps at all. If we follow a logical plan of fault finding we should be able to find the problem. I hope!

For anyone reading this that still can’t get there microphone to work no matter what, look at your microphone it has dirt and lint in it which prevents any noise from being heard. I literally just got a pencil and poked the holes to get out the lint and now it works perectly fine

SOLUTION: My iPhone 7 after upgrading to iOS 12 turned into a brick i.e calls dont work, greyed out speaker, siri couldn't hear me, can't record voice memos as 'no audio devices found'. Tried the usual reboot, restore as a new phone, restore from backup, go to dfu mode. None worked. So, gave up as it seemed software update exposed an hardware issue. Now my choice was to use this phone to just watch videos, play games.. So, I used *****another phone's backup***** and restored it. Voila!! Speaker is no longer greyed out, siri responds, voice memos can be recorded. Try that.
I don't understand ' another phone's back up?' - do you have 2 phones that IOS ? I am having this issue & have the 7 Plus & see this has been an on going issue

Bro I tried everything my mic works on calls but not on WhatsApp FaceTime and Instagram lives and videos stuff like that and I’ve tried all the methods like noise cancellation resetting my phone and everything
Sounds like I similar problem Android devices suffer from. It comes down to permissions and it seems that the setting needs updating for the apps to access the mic. Out of interest does it work with a headset plugged in?
Just had a look in the setting menu and there is specifically mentioned mic access for WhatsApp couldn't see the option for Instagram but Facebook is also there. Just a toggle switch to set the access permissions. Maybe worth checking it and make sure the apps have permission.

It could be the permission settings need to be changed. If you uninstall the app. Reboot then reinstall and it should ask to access the mic of it doesn't there is the problem

YungTrapOrange Does noise cancelling appear in the settings section? if not there is a strong possibility that the sound chip or mic are physically damaged, in this case it is best to take the phone to a repair shop or apple store for a hardware test and examination.
I don’t know I have i phone 12 and everything is fine but my microphone is not working when I call someone and it’s working when I put it on speaker as well as I did hearing aid compatibility as I saw in some u tube videos that i helps but the volume is really really low and I can barely hear the phone ring when I call. If you don't have the noise cancelling option and no sound then it is very likely to be the sound ic chip. This will need replacing or repairing.
There doesn't seem to be any other options at the moment.
Sorry to say but you might need a new phone.

Hey . So, my problem consists on the fact that I hear a heavy static sound when i record with my front camera and a slight static sound when i record with the rare camera. I can hear audios, calls, videos and i can also record audios and videos on snapchat without all these problems. Idk what to do ive tried a lot of stuff but nothing worked. Could you please respond.
try cleaning all the sockets and jacks if possible and clean out the mic with an airduster but i think you possibly have a failing sound chip or some software or app is messing things up. Try a full factory reset and see if it helps?
Still nothing. It seems like the iphone is muting just the voice

I fixed it but in different way.
step 1) go in settings. 2) Accessibility. 3) scroll down where it says Audio/Visual. 4) Scroll down where it says Balance L and R, volume should be in MIDDLE between L and R

when I FaceTime they can hear me good but on the calls they can’t . I went to the noise cancellation thingy and it was on but it still doesn’t want to work I also tried resetting my phone.
sounds like a sound chip fault, might be worth a visit to apple if possible or your local mobile repair store

Are you sure it has to be hardware issue? I have iPhone XR which I upgraded to iOS 14 last week, and then I stopped hearing the calls (until I switched to speaker or headphones). After I found your solution, then I disabled "Control noise cancellation on iPhone" setting, and sound during the calls returned. Now I am wondering if my phone is broken or this is just software issue. Just to let you know, caller was able to hear me perfectly fine. I also noticed when I was on the call on the speaker and switched off to normal, then I had a sound in the earphone for about 0,5 sec, and later it disappeared.
could be either but the noise cancellation basically disables one of the mics

Bro my iPhone 8 in that siri is working and videos mic will also work but of I call someone they can't hear same as in all apps watsapp insta etc what's the problem any solution the audio form other side is clear my mic is only problem

Heyia I have the iPhone X and my speaker still works for music, CZcams videos and things like that, however when on snapchat I can’t hear my voice in videos, and on calls I can hear the callers voice but they can’t hear mine. I’ve tried putting my phone in rice, the latest software update, I cooled it down and rebooted it and turned off the cancellation thing in settings and it’s still not working, do you have any advice
Tried to remove the app and reinstall it to reset the permissions on
So I can call people and they can hear me until I put it on speaker. They can’t hear my voice chats on Snapchat or messages . On messages I can hear myself but when I send it they can’t hear me. Just started happening to me after I updated the ios and restored the phone to factory settings. I then restored from a back up and all of a sudden the microphone and ear speaker doesn’t work. When I’m in my car and the phone is connected via Bluetooth I can make and receive calls just fine using the car’s speakers and microphone. Very frustrating.

I got my phone 3 days ago and I tried everything but nothing worked, my friends can’t hear me and Siri cannot hear me. Only when I film myself talking in photos it works. I can hear the other person but they can’t hear me. I don’t know what to do

I took my phone to get fixed (screen) now I can hear and watch on my phone videos. The problem is when someone calls and it’s on speaker they can’t hear me and other apps like what’s app I can’t send voice message or call because no one can hear me but I hear them. Weird thing is I can send voice memos on messenger tho. Idk what they did to my phone?
take it back to them and get them to check the speaker and mic connections, it is easy to dislodge them
