    Hot glue splatter dyes are super easy and almost impossible to mess up. You can do multiple layers of dye ranging from lightest to darkest too.
    Just got done dying my newest husquavarna 562xp. Hit it with the glue, dyed it green, hit it with more glue, dyed it brown, hit it with more glue, dyed it black, peel the glue and you got yourself a custom Camo chainsaw.
    Learned from dying lacrosse heads a long time ago.

    Nice job! I've dyed a ton of skates and wanted to give anyone who's interested in doing this some advice.
    I've dyed Aeon, FR, Razors, etc. All take the same if you follow this.
    1. After removing all accessories use mineral spirts or 97+ alcohol. Completely clean the boot.
    2. Buy a 3m heavy duty brillo pad. Take your time rubbing every inch of the boot. I spend about 15-20 min per part. This is crucial so that you don't run into spots not taking color.
    3. When it comes to Dye use Rit Dye More Synthetic or Rit Proline Powder. These give the best saturation levels. Now you can use regular color dye but here's the issue. You'll need to let it soak for hours to get deep saturation. For people who want colors that aren't offered in synthetic or proline this is what you'll need to do.
    4. Color testing is important like he showed in this video. Personally I take it a step further and buy similar plastic parts on Amazon for cheap and try that first to test color.
    5. As he did in the video go and find yourself a large pot and a metal clothes hanger. I use the hanger through one of the eyelets to make sure the part being dyed doesn't touch any sides of the pot. This is needed so partial coloring on areas that would touch the side of the pot don't happen. As for heat i actually use hotplate/electric cooker and performer this outside.
    6. If you have a part you want to dye but it has accessories you can't remove. Someone mentioned it in this thread...hot glue works wonders.
    Remember the most important thing is PREP. The more time you spend getting the skates cleaned/sanded = best results.

      Awesome! Thanks for this. I'm thinking of dying some Aeons and wanted to be able to mask off some areas, so hot glue sounds like the business. Your other tips are on point and will be a big help for a lot of people I'm sure.

    Maybe wipe down with alcohol, lightly sand the boot. Alcohol wipe again to remove dust and then dye?
    More rough surface for the dye to adhere to?
    Great vid btw.

    Throw some white vinegar in for synthetic materials even plastic it needs to get into the pores of the plastic and makes it solid all over

    You should definitely invest in a bigger pot. Get yourself a turkey deep fryer. They're fairly cheap and you don't gotta do that in your kitchen. You could probably even suspend the skate thru the lace holes for better results. Still came out great though 👍

    • @danielcampion5414
      @danielcampion5414 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Just from my experience and dying a bunch of skates, it can last a long time. All depends on level of prep, type of dye, and how long you let it soak.

    • @spookwackadoo
      @spookwackadoo  Před 5 měsíci

      With the process I used, it’s pretty much only surface. I need to use a synthetic dye with some white vinegar and a better cleaner to get it to dye deeper, from my understanding.

    Skates.. Like in all? I mean. How this works with black and/or you have tips for change color black sir?

    • @danielcampion5414
      @danielcampion5414 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Unfortunately from my experience black can't really be changed unless you dye it another dark like color. Still don't really recommend it. Look at a color wheel and choose colors that fall in the same family. So for example pink aeon skates will take purple dye really well and you'll come out with a neon purple.

  • @dexterdex

    anyone tried it on aeon skates? heard that the plastic Aeons are made of, don't dye correctly, is it true?

    • @chantzk
      @chantzk Před 6 měsíci +4

      Never tried it on Aeons but I think they’re doable with the right prep work and a decent quality synthetic dye ( not the dye used in the video)

      Most likely not. It *might* hue them slightly but I doubt there would be any real visible difference

  • @aegiDiusMrChef
    @aegiDiusMrChef Před 5 měsíci

    Hmm.. get a wider pot, set a net in the bottom 1 cm over - the pot needs to be 5 cm higher than the plastic.. rest is fine, guess u where in a hurry
