Super Typhoon Saola: Hong Kong shuts down as powerful storm approaches

- Hong Kong braced for the arrival of Super Typhoon Saola on Friday as authorities raised the strong wind signal to level 8, bringing the city to an effective standstill with most businesses and schools shut down.
Saola is packing winds of more than 200 kph and is moving towards the coast of eastern Guangdong, the province that encompasses Hong Kong.
It could be among the five strongest typhoons to hit Guangdong since 1949, Chinese authorities said on Thursday as they issued their highest typhoon warning.

The worker is a foreigner domestic worker. Foreign domestic workers receive mistreatment and abuse by their CHINESE bosses. Racism and discrimination are commonly found in Hong Kong. Imagine being forced to live with your boss and working 14 hours a day plus only 2 weeks holiday every two years. Foreigners are treated badly in Hong Kong.

One thing that will be very interesting with 2023 is how the ACE score is after this year. With all the big time Tropical Cyclones in the Indian, Pacific, in the Atlantic this year, I don’t think it will be an all time record but 2023 has certainly been above normal in terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE). But I hope everyone in Hong Kong is safe, I live in New Jersey and I’m currently getting big swells from Idalia, Franklin, Gert, and Jose all off my coast.

oh, trust me. we see at least 2 typhoons during summer. most of them are chill and stay near Taiwan. but once it comes near us, we just get some groceries and snacks, then vibe at home. and most likely, there's some destruction like trees falling down and some trash, but we clean that up real quick

we're mostly fine. there's some flooding in some places and some fallen trees etc but I'm pretty sure people will clean up fast. there was many more major typhoons in the past and we dealt with it.
