The Benelli SuperSport has been my go to gun for clay target shooting for about 10 years now. So far I have put ~30k rounds through mine with no failures of any kind, mostly shooting 1 ounce, 1200 fps target loads. I have observed that cycling does slow down noticeably at ~1k rounds after cleaning unless I add a few drops of oil to the rails the bolt operates on. I do detail clean mine every 1500 rounds or so, simply because I like shooting a clean gun. A few additional comments regarding your review: 1. Although the trigger assembly is removable, I usually do not remove it as I can clean it in place once the barrel and upper receiver are removed. Also, it is a little fiddly to reinstall because it tends to snag the cast shim between the stock and lower receiver. For that reason, I find it easier to remove the stock first when I do remove the trigger assembly. 2. The early sn guns did have a blued steel upper receiver, but the one you are reviewing has a black anodized alloy upper receiver (unless the UK guns are different than those imported into the states). As far as I know, the lower receiver has always been Nickle plated alloy. 3. The raised comb is not aftermarket, but is optional directly from Benelli. 4. The porting may not be that beneficial, but it is definitely a pita to clean. 5. I noticed the same thing you did regarding tracking crossing targets, which is why I added a Briley weighted magazine cap to mine. 6. And finally, I do agree the carbon fiber effect furniture is VERY well done, but as we both know, it is not the "real thing" Otherwise, an excellent review of an excellent clays gun.

The Performance Shop model with the Briley mods is a really sweet shooter. Backbored, lengthened forcing cone, improved trigger job, and an additional 6 oz with the extended stock counterweight cap - it’s a really nice handling and shooting gun. About 4,000 rounds through mine so far with no issues. Cycles 7/8 oz loads just as well as 1 1/8 oz loads. If you can find one second hand, it would be a great next gun for someone coming off a starter or a nice backup gun for tournament day.

I’ve owned the Performance Shop Series version for about 2 years now and I’m at about 3,000-4,000 rounds. Exceptional gun. The additional Briley mods (trigger, bolt extension, oversized bolt release button, bored barrel, extra Briley chokes, weighted fore end extension) address almost every negative comment in the review. I recently was shooting sporting clays with a friend who shoots a $16K Krieghoff. We swapped at one station because he was curious. He hit 4 pairs straight. I didn’t get my Benelli back for 5 more stations.....
If you’re wondering about this gun, don’t. Pay the added cost for the PSS and go have fun at the range for a lot less $$ than the Italian over/under owners and the Krieghoff /Kolar owners.....

I have a newer Super Sport (without the plastic carbon fiber effect). It's a good gun. They don't like light loads but, besides that, it's very reliable. The only issue I have with it, is that on the clays course, I always have to check the forend cap & bolt release button ... both will constantly wiggle loose throughout the day.

It's a handsome shotgun, but the cartridge release lever + the carrier release button make for a complicated, non-intuitive loading design that I never quite learned to use well despite owning a Benelli for years. That plus a plastic trigger guard on a shotgun costing $$$$$ always made me shake my head.

Nice video as usual John, between this and the Ethos what in your opinion is the best? I do clay shooting and enjoy it very much, my instructor advised me to apply to the police for my shotgun certificate which I did but they sent my form back saying I have to give my full life medical history,, this seems impossible because they don't keep records from all that long, how do I get around this, any ideas, this is all that's stopping me getting a licence. I was a F. A. C. Holder in 1972 but gave it up when I moved to Spain... Thanks John. Best wishes Bill

I'm with you that the faux carbon fiber finish is a bit cheesy at this level, but I suspect the ComforTech feature would be tricky to incorporate into a carbon fiber stock. And even if it's doable, the production numbers may not be there to pay for the R&D.

It really doesn't matter who makes the fastest action, let me explain if you fire at a clay or bird and miss there is a delay in the second shot because you have to re ajust so unless the bolt is closing at a snail pace it won't affect you.

All guns require cleaning if this... and indeed any other gun is to perform at its best... Barrel stills gets powder residue as does the the trigger and bolt/cartridge extraction system... Granted... no where near as much or as time consuming as gas operated Auto's.
I strip and clean mine every time after a shoot... be it 50 or 150 Cartridges shot... as it only takes 15mins max.. Hardly a chore is it!
