  • This Stihl wouldn't throttle up and sounded weak. Clogged muffler from too much oil or lugging the motor. #smallenginerepair #stihl #trimmer

    Great demonstration. Apparently, my screen has been removed by its previous owner. Helped rule this out. My throttle was sticking by gunk causing the trimmer run improperly. A spray with carb cleaner was a simple fix.
    I don't know if this is helpful, but I had an Echo trimmer screen that would clog every 2 months. The rest of my equipment was Stihl, so I used their full synthetic 2 cycle oil. I learned that Echo recommended semi, so I switched and it didn't clog again. I've been using semi on all for about a year now.

    I cleaned the carburetor (wasn't much to clean off) and I just soaked it purple cleaner, rinse and let dry so sope that does it. I thought maybe there was a problem with the muffler but since I don't have the screen on mine anymore anyway. I guess that's not an issue. I was afraid it might be so didn't want to put it back together until that was checked out. But I guess I can put it back together now and try it out. Everythings clean and looks good

    Just Remove The Screen And Hold It With A Pair Of Pliars And Take A Handheld Propane Torch And Burn Off The Oil Residue And Other Build Up On It, Then Use Like An Old Toothbrush And Lightly Brush Off The Screen And Reinstall It.. It's Better To Use A Non-Abrasive Type Of Brush Like A Nylon Kind, So Your Not Scraping Off The Protective Outer Finish Of The Spark Arrestor Screen To Help It Last Longer Because An Abrasive Type Brush Will Scrape Off The Protective Coating On The Screen And Cause It To Rust Quickly And Fall Apart, That Is If You Want To Keep A Screen In The Muffler But Most People, Including Myself Wind Up Misplacing The Screens To Begin With And Run The Machines Without Them LOL

    Burn it clean with a propane torch. I generally take a torch to the whole muffler until the muffler completely glows orange, let it cool and blow it out with the air hose/air gun. Clean the exhaust port, bolt the muffler on and runs like a brand new machine.

      Is it running correctly or is it not 100 percent. The only time I have seen fuel spitting back through the carburetor is when the exhaust is not flowing as much as it should. Maybe a partially clogged spark arrestor, partially clogged muffler or partially clogged exhaust port. In this case I take the muffler off and the screen out of the muffler, gently put them in my vise, heat them with a propane torch till they glow orange. Let cool down. Blow out the carbon ash with compressed air reinstall the muffler with the screen in it. They generally run like brand new after. Mix your fuel to oil correctly and run them full throttle. This heats the muffler very hot and burns the oil that would clog it as carbon deposits. The black charcoal like substance found in two stroke mufflers that were not ran at high rpm. Two stroke engines love to be ran at high rpm. Don't be easy on it or the exhaust will clog up.

    • @SmallEngineRepair
      @SmallEngineRepair  Před 2 lety

      Probably just a little heavy on the oil mix but that's not terrible. Better to have a little too much oil than not enough.

  • @Gamubi
    @Gamubi Před 3 lety

    If you leave them in. The quickest way to clean them is to clamp it up and run a tiger torch on it burns all that carbon off in a minute and done.

  • @sparrowdudu
    @sparrowdudu Před 3 lety

    My fs55r doesn’t have a spark arrestor, just a small hole in muffler for exhaust to come out (it’s made for non-US market, so doesn’t require one). But I have the exact same problem of bogging. Starts & idles fine, but won’t rev up. What’s next likely cause please? Can the muffler itself get clogged?

    • @bloopbloop5663
      @bloopbloop5663 Před 3 lety

      It's a carb problem there are little knobs to spin to fix it go look it up use a cheap bic pen to spin it instead of the proper tool works great I tryed it fixed for a while but it's actually a muffler spark arestor for me

    • @shawndubay4050
      @shawndubay4050 Před 2 lety

      Take the muffler off and take a torch to it until it glows a dull orange inside and out. Will cook all the carbon from all the baffles and small passage holes inside the muffler. Let it cool and blow it out with compressed air to clear out the burned carbon ash. Bolt on the freshly cleaned and cold muffler and the engine should scream like brand new unless the carburetor needs tuned. This is what I do to every peice of equipment that I own and I have zero problems out of a single unit. Oh and check and carefully clean the exhaust port of carbon build up. There is many how to videos on this on CZcams. Best of luck to you.

    • @bloopbloop5663
      @bloopbloop5663 Před 3 lety +2

      You don't need to buy new take it out and burn the carbon off with blowtorch

  • @rogerd943
    @rogerd943 Před rokem

    take a small crack torch and burn off the carbon, slight wire brush afterward and reinstall. If you decide to leave the screen out you may need to adjust your carb due to less restriction in the exhaust - engine will breathe better, more air = more fuel.

    • @toniadeane2559
      @toniadeane2559 Před rokem

      When you say adjust your carb, can you explain? Asking this because when I checked, mine didn't have the screen. Not sure if it was taken out before it was bought, when it went in for the first service, or if it never came with one. Now really trying to understand my machine so that I can service it myself.

    I have a Still FS 70 Brushcutter, when I pulled the boot off of the spark plug it also pulled the boot off of the wire, located in the boot w/the spark plug. I've put in a new plug & replaced the boot over both. What is the wire that goes into the boot? I don't want anything to arc. What should I do? Thank you?

    • @SmallEngineRepair
      @SmallEngineRepair  Před 3 lety

      That wire in the boot is the spark plug wire coming from the coil. It's what caries spark from the coil to the plug. Pushing them back through the boot can be tricky. Sometimes I'll make a slit on the under side of the boot and then put it around the wire.
