- If you've been struggling with mods, I'm here to help! In this video, I'll show you how to mod CS2 using the Thunderstore Mod Manager and will show of 10 of my favorite mods and show you how to use them. In addition, I show you how to enable developer mode, which can either enhance your modding experience or allow you to skip mods all together. I'll also show how to do this for both the Xbox Gamepass and Steam versions of the game.

EDIT as of 4/3/24 - This video is out of date with the release of PDX mods - DO NOT USE the Thunderstore if you use PDX Mods! In fact, I'd recommend migrating towards PDX mods, since there are more mods and that is where updates will be occurring. Not liking mods is like not liking the game to be better
So, I’m playing CS on Xbox. Are there any modders creating for consoles? Is It even posible to install mods on consoles? I’ve no idea really.
@@kubiekemeester Code modding isn't allowed on console, so that isn't available for either CS1 or CS2. That said, one of the reasons for the switch to PDX mods is bringing assets to both PC and console at the same time. So eventually you'll have more then you do now for CS1 and hopefully right upon release. We'll see.
Would it be possible for you to give a Guide on how to set up the cities skylines 2 UnlimitedElevatedRoad mod by Jimmyok because I cant get it to work?

I've been a stream enjoyer for a while so this is nothing new to me, but whoah it's so refreshing to see the man behind the cities on a main video!
Also this video might be the thing that sways me on finally picking up CS:2, so cool to see the mods come to life for this game.
The mods are a game changer, imo! Re the facecam - it honestly made making this video a ton easier, so I've been liking it myself, too!

so now my *real* comment. I was hesitant to start with mods due to worries that updates to fix problems would be frequent and keep breaking mods. Now that it is clear that updates from CO are going to be disappointingly infrequent, I've started adding a few mods to the game. They haven't fixed all of my complaints about CS2 but they sure have helped. Hats off to all the modders putting in the hard work to make this better for everyone!
I mean, this would have been an argument to never mod your game back in CS1. The updates that broke mods were literally ended 6 months ago.
I completely feel you there. I didn't directly mention this, but I have the same fears particularly as we migrate to PDX mods eventually. I think the first 6-7 mods on this list shouldn't ever be game breaking, which is why they were first. And honestly, just the first few will dramatically improve the gameplay experience for most people anyway.
@@minabasejderha5972 there was a pretty long period where I gave up on the original Cities Skylines because of modding breaking saves after an update. I grew weary of needing to spend time hunting down which mods were abandoned and causing the problems and it just became not worth it to me. When I did return to the game, I was hesitant to add mods back in, but then I discovered that things had improved quite a bit, modders were able to salvage abandoned by other modders, and CO was working w/ modders to have updates in place sooner, usually on update release day. My reluctance over CS2 mods is born out of that history, worrying that with entirely new code, and CO seemingly overwhelmed by the state of the game, the situation from early years of original CS would repeat.

@@minabasejderha5972 In early days of the original CS, I did walk away from the game completely for a couple of years because of mods breaking saves. Back then it seemed every update surfaced numerous abandoned mods that, because I had used them, meant my saves were now unplayable. Beyond that, it seemed like when I was lucky enough to dodge that bullet, it would take a week or more before mods were updated and I could play my saves again. So I walked, it was just too frustrating.
When I came back to the game, I was pleased to find that current modders were able to pick up where abandoned mods left off and, due to increasing cooperation from CO, many mods were updated within days if not hours of an update release. I didn't have a single broken save for the past three or four years.
CO's early communication about CS2 made it seem that updates would be coming at a fast and regular pace, so I was concerned that mods would not be able to keep up, that is why I was reluctant to jump into mods with CS2.
So, respectfully, the concern is not the same as the situations are very different.
Spent the last couple of weeks trying to figure out manual installation before giving up, followed alongside your video and it was successful in about 20 minutes. Thank you so much for the guide, Phil.

Yo Phil, ever since the face reveal, your content has leveled up a ton (and it was already great), not sure if its a natural consequence of putting a face to the content or if you've made some changes in other places, but it's been amazing watching the channel grow, keep it up man!

well they gave him the game early, and he made like several videos before it reelased and got a ton of views for that.
I kind of hit a ceiling at about 450 hours, then I started adding mods and fell back in love with CS2.
I think this video will give more players the confidence to start playing modded.

I'd decided on no mods, no dev mode, as I was sure that CO/PDX would provide the experience that I wanted.
I waited, and waited, and then, when I saw your excellent video I gave in and downloaded all of the necessary infrastructure and a few of the mods that you have suggested.
In all honesty, it's so easy (with your help) and the game play is that much richer as a result.

I can not begin to tell you how grateful I am for this video. I bought CS2 a few weeks after it was announced, and I was so excited to play. I have almost 40 hours of game time, but there is just something about it that makes me head right back to CS1. I believe it's a toss-up between the overall look of the game and me getting bored because of a lack of detailing assets and the jankiness of my city without mods. But your video is a game changer for me. Thanks a million for making this video. it was extremely helpful and much appreciated. 😊
I love the concept of Historic Start mod. I share the same opinions as you Phil in regard to how the game forces you to build a city before a town essentially.
I'll go even further- it should all be unlocked and be solely dependent on money. If I was to start my own town or city in the middle of nowhere in real life, I know what a subway is. I know what an ISP is. There's no need to research anything, it just depends on if my town could afford it. Now, if the game started in 1820, then maybe you don't have a nuke plant, but you wouldn't have cars, either- and that's not the game we're playing. So, for me, I always play unlocked.

Phil you just saved my life mentioning you can paint resources in Developer Mode. Thats the feature i wanted most so i can make proper farms and give my city what it wants. I can now do that without worrying about getting the mods and going through all that hastle. Thank you very much

Thanks for this. I was holding out for Paradox mods but with their lack of progress I have decided to go the Thunderstore route. This video was super helpful. Now, just waiting on a new update that hopefully fixes the land value problem I am having with industrial zones.

Thanks so much for all the great info. I've been using almost the exact same mods for a couple of weeks now, but thanks to your video I found that I wasn't taking full advantage of all their features, especially Tree Controller. I’ve been really wanting to use mods but have been very hesitant. But you’ve convinced me that I need to start!
One thing I don't think I explained very well - the first 6-7 or so mods shouldn't impact your save in any way, so if you end up not liking the experience, you can uninstall the mods and Thunderstore - no harm, no foul.

I had come to the conclusion that I wasn't going to look at playing CSL2 until AFTER the consol versions were out and then watch which bugs get stomped out after that.
After watching all the capabilities that get added using this mod, I will have to talk to Cylis about how well his machine works with CSL2 as we both have the same motherboard, just different CPU & GPU.
Thanks Between you and Biffa I have learned so much about CS2. I just have to realise that building cities is not a quick and easy prospect based on your videos. I do enjoy CS2 more than CS1. I am also glad that Paradox is onboard with modding and will officially support it. See in you on the video does make the videos more personal.

My very first reaction to this video (within seconds of starting it) was, "who is this guy!?" Then I heard "the voice". TBH, I imagined you completely different. I guess that goes to show that the voice doesn't always match up to the image. But I guess since you're now full time (I think you said) with this channel, it makes sense to "reveal" yourself to your fans. I had the same reaction when I first saw Yumbl as well on video.
I've been on the fence whether or not to get into mods for CS2 or to hold out until they are official. But I'll watch the video and perhaps you will sway me to get into using mods for CS2 at this point. I've seen some channels, including yours, using some that I think would really improve my gameplay. So, we shall see. Now, back to the video.

Thank you for this overview! I feel like I hit my limit of CSII without mods a while back and this has helped me enjoy playing again. I was particularly excited to play with the historical start mod first because I love history, and also because it feels easier to build an organic, realistic city. I'm hoping to see a mod sometime soon that lets you remove the space around the assets like huge lawns and parking lots, because a lot of the time the assets don't fit with the vibe of the city/town I'm trying to build which takes away from my enjoyment of the game.

This video is basically what I've been waiting for before buying the game, and then there is a face in the video synced to the narrator voice. Wow, it's two in one. I haven't craved for the face reveal even though I've spend hours listening you speaking, but is this age is kind of weird not knowing how a person looks when listening for them for so long. I haven't been watching much CS2 content so I wouldn't force myself buying the game too soon.Now that I know modding is in good spot, it feels like it might be a good time to buy the game.

@@CityPlannerPlays You hit all of the essentials. One of my favorites is the "Traffic_Lights_Enhancement_Alpha" mod that you mentioned. The "Whiteshark_Cheat_Overhaul" is fun to play with, even if it is a bit more advanced.
