    throwing your straps thru those spools of rod heavy gage wire loads like that one needs to paying attention to not trapping the tag end underneath the winch end of the tightening one on top of the other being loose. Something to really think about what it is to securing it correctly verses not. Good thing here is you let others know it as well. thumbs up buddy,keep it honest and always stop to check the securement w/bar in hand. :) C-ya. thumbs up on your video for sure.

    Is this thing worth it? I just got my cdl and I'm looking for money I dont mind the work but do they pay for that time it takes to secure the load. you could be half way to destination with a regular trailer

    • @DaleLClay
      @DaleLClay  Před 8 lety

      +Josue Octavius lol, and dangerous to haul this in a dry van. Flat tends to pay more, but more work is involved. $25 to tarp. Usually less then 30 minutes. That's a $50 an hour rate for me. It's all a matter of perspective. I have an updated pay video you should look for then you can determine for yourself.

    • @richardmiseljr2413
      @richardmiseljr2413 Před 7 lety +1

      Yep it's called figure eight. I always did it with coiled wire and slit coils for safety and a more stable load. Paletized slit coil's I allways'd crossed my chains across the top. Name and I hauled it. If I had the money I'd start a flatbed training school. Keep up with the vid's I enjoy them.

  • @mikeroy9528
    @mikeroy9528 Před 8 lety

    Twenty years ago I drove vans for a short time and I always wondered why flatbed guys did their thing. It seems like so much more work and as you said , rain, cold, no matter, if it calls for a tarp, the load gets tarped. Is the pay really that much better or is it something else? I just found your channel, so you may have answered this question. Be safe out there and make it home.

    Nice TMC pete at the 0:18 mark. And I have to correct you on the title. This is just grueling. Painfully slow would be this same task but doing it in a driving rain or even worse...in the WINTER...with a nice wind chill. Now that's pain. But the bottom line is, no matter how long it took, your load was properly secured.

    • @DaleLClay
      @DaleLClay  Před 8 lety

      I have done it in the winter, and in the rain, and after securing - had to tarp. Its not really a correction but your personal preference. It was painfully slow because normally it goes much quicker, but I had to redo some straps because i initially placed them wrong.

  • @skinnycarlos8771
    @skinnycarlos8771 Před 7 lety

    hey! But, why so far out from the drive axle, doesnt it jump when you are drivin, i haul coils before and some were so heavy that we were only able to haul just one and that one was put in the middle of the flatbed and once the truck was moving it jumped alot on the freeway... im quessing that would be the case with this load youre doing..... great video and stay safe out there... i did truck driving for over 12 years and loved it... im in mexico did do what i wasnt a good citizen thats what happen, but cant wait to drive here in my country.....

    • @DaleLClay
      @DaleLClay  Před 7 lety

      WE load from the center out. No jumping on my that I have noticed. I have seen some drivers that like to haul things over their drives. i am not one of those drivers that has that preference.

    • @DaleLClay
      @DaleLClay  Před 6 lety

      +jimbeau I am unfamiliar with hiring drivers that haven't driven in a while. I suppose if your CDL is good then you should be good with a current DOT physical. Best bet is to give some places a call that meet your needs. I am happy with Maverick so I always recommend them, I am not sure where you live, but there are several companies that hire new studwnts, but someone like you that has experience should have no problem with even the company's that require experience. I can't recommend any other company I haven't driven for. I would hate to recommend a company and find out letter they are not what them claim to be. I recommend talking to those that have the type of trucking you want to do and meet any other needs you may want. Drivers are in demand, so you are in the Drivers seat when it comes to getting a job so to speak.
