The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I love this song and I love Brenda Lee. What a huge voice!!!. She never got her due. She was a powerhouse in Country and Rock and Roll. Your music lives on Brenda Lee.
She was the biggest female recording star of the 60s. Not sure why you say she never got her due.
She's still alive. She even has a CZcams channel. 💁🏼♀️
@@Jen.ERocking Around the Christmas Tree Recently got to Number One on Billboard's Hot 100 First Time Ever.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Long live rockabilly!
Большое видится на расстоянии. Маленький фонарик в глаза нас ослепляет. На Бренду Ли надо смотреть издалека. Этим я хочу сказать, прежде чем слушать, научитесь этому.
I’m 71 years old. I’ve loved the way she sings for decades !!! 👍👍
me too
Me too.
Was mijn idool vanaf mijn tienertijd ! Onvergetelijke periode ❤🇳🇱🌹🎼👋 ( 🌹) 😘
I am 71 and still listen to them they were best days of my life
Ooo.71? Uff!!
*We need television like this once again.. Real entertainment, not the "popularity contest" crap, they cram down our throats these days*
It’s a aspect demands that those as gifted get there place a place that in this year we don’t have as quantity of is made to have more then true quality may we have Brenda lee as a demonstration in accomplishment earned
along with a sob story.
Brenda Lee, Connie Francis, and Patsy Cline were the three greatest female voices of the 1950s and '60s. Wow, could they deliver a song!
Agree with you 100%
I'm 78 years old, and I'm still in love with this lady. I've had a crush on her since I heard her first song. Brenda Lee is my secret love.
16 years old when she sang this song. WOW !!
Such a powerful voice coming from such a small package. What a tremendous talent. WOW!!!
Singing on stage in the fifties, at a round six years old , at ten years old she supported her family, born in poverty , amazing.
@AGENT 007 Peggy?
@AGENT 007 She sang the song with impact! She had great interpretation of lyrics!

I loved Brenda Lee when I was a teenager during the time when she was a teenager too. Actually I'm the same age as she.
I saw her in concert twice in Corpus Christi, Tx. in the early 1960's. My opinion is that her voice was at it's best during 1958 to 1965. I still enjoy listening to those songs. However, thanks to CZcams, I found her recordings of "All the Way", and "Pretend". I think she did an excellent job with those songs too. I do have several of her early recordings and still enjoy them to this day.
Between 2 icons of Brenda Lee and the late Judith Durham of the Seekers, you will never ever hear a bad word said...Such great gifts of song and their respectable beautiful voices were amazing plus their love for the good lord and good personalities really shined....❤
"Little Miss Dynamite" she's great!
One of the best voices America ever produced. I had the honor of meeting Miss Lee once. She was an absolute delight ... everything I had dreamed she'd be.
Met her too, same reaction
It wasnt a brilliant voice it was mediocre to pleasant..in her time she was ok
@@Sq12Sq22u22 obviously you’ve never heard her live, if you did, you’d never say that garbage ! Incredible voice of many octaves ! I saw her live twice ! Still amazed !
@@SuperBeachbum74 Try Judith Durham, Try Piaff, Try MANY and then you will realise she is middle of the road!
@@Sq12Sq22u22 you are so funny ! Also lacking knowledge but only opinion ! Did you know after her time as a preteen country artist after she recorded her big hit, “ I’m Sorry “ , critics worldwide compared her to Edith Piaf ! France even requested she tour France due to that fact ! When she arrived they couldn’t believe she was only 15 ! So they actually. I’ll Ed her as a 30 tr. old midget ! True story ! Also songwriter Kris Kristopherson wrote many songs for Brenda in the 70s ! Why ? Because he was a big fan of Piaf and said Brenda reminded him of her ! Did you ever see her live in her heyday ! I saw her in 73&75 ! First time I saw her at Chicago’s famed Palmer House . She did a version of the Tom Jones hit “ I Who Have Nothing “ reaching huge octaves and blowing the lid off Toms version and receiving a standing ovation ! She sang show tunes like “ What I Did For Love “ that captivated the audience ! Her singles were for mainly pop audiences but seeing her live, you heard the incredible talent that kept her career going for almost 60 years ! I’m sure Piaf would be proud of her ! Brendas versions of Piaf songs, “ La Vie En Rose “ and “ If You Love Me, Really Love Me “ are a credit to Piaf and herself ! I’ve heard both versions and Brenda holds her own ! Btw, I’m French so Piaf is well known to me !
I’m 78 years old and I always love listening to her music ❤
❤😂En ik ben 18 te jong voor verkering 😅👋MOI"'EE
I’m 73 and she remains #1 with me today 🧨❤️👵
It’s great to read these comments about Brenda....I played piano and sang backup vocals on tour with her from 1996-2001.. she is as nice as described here..a wonderful talent..and a workhorse...we’d be in 2 time zones in 2 days and she was as strong as ever...I didn’t grow up really knowing her music..but definitely “I’m sorry” and “Rocking around Xmas tree”...I was in Nashville playing in a piano bar and she and her husband came out to my gig. I’m real honored to say she was my employer for a while.
She has diehard fans all over the world. She would sign autographs for hours after the show.
Lucky you! Thanks for sharing!
great story, thanks!
Thank you, Jonahcat for taking the time to write that very thoughtful and personal tribute!
I was stunned by this special recording made for this show, and prefer it to the original studio recording. She never sounded better. Love her low, contralto voice.
She has been around "forever," but is only 78 years old.
I am 77. Yet she always seemed to be somewhat younger than I since she was, and is, so diminutive, and got such an early professional start. It will be a sad day when Brenda Mae Tarpley eventually passes away. I wish both of us at least another decade of life, in good health, before we depart this mortal coil.
Anyone who likes her voice should Google another female with country roots who was great on country songs, as was Brenda, named Peggy Sue Webb
Wright, singing "ALL I HAVE TO OFFER YOU IS ME."
Now I am off to listen to my favorite recording by Brenda Lee, and I daresay by most other of her admirers, "LOSING YOU."
New one to me ,I grew up listening to Brenda Lee ,we have both been around forever.
Jim Rackets channel I searched through lots of his songs, could not find Vince Hill Take Me To Your Heart Again but what a wonderful collection of songs he has mostly my era of old favourites.
Ed sure knew talent Brenda was the purest
When the world was a better place than it is now 😮😮.
what a God given voice!!
There will never another Georgia Peach like Brenda Lee
I LOVED THIS GIRL
Rocking Around The Christmas Tree is my favorite of Brenda Lee.
Hi Virginia, how are you?
I love that one too. I listen to it every Christmas.
What A Voice !!
What a voice. Love "Little Miss Dynamite"
I loved this lady from when I was 13 yrs old and I still play all of her fantastic songs , I do believe we are same age ,I'm 77yrs young Brenda Lee , your brilliant always have been ,always will be love always Marlene xxxxx
Hi Marlene, how are you doing?
Oh yes, Brenda Lee, the little girl with the big voice from Georgia! I bought all her records when she hit it big in 1960 with "I'm Sorry" and from there on the rest is history. I am still a die hard Brenda Lee fan and always will be!!!
Good 4 u. She had a voice n a ½.
Brenda Lee got a really nice representation at the end of Loki episode 4 so her legacy goes on! 👏
@@KevinTheeStallion That's great! Thanks!
Me too, age 71! Lived through Beatles, Elvis, etc. Still like Brenda!!
I agreeI
Brenda was a great singer and never got the recognition she deserved !!!!
There's no mistaking her voice for anyone else.
Nothing 2 say she said it all Brenda Lee listen love it ❤❤❤❤
I danced to this song in 1961 and when the song was over my date reached up and kissed me and I fell in love for the first time. Funny how you remember such things.
A bad note wouldn't think of coming out of her mouth. Voice, Voice, Voice!! My all time favorite.
Because of that trait, she was considered a prodigy!
People in the music business were amazed what she could do with little to no formal music voice training. @@willzimjohn
the new generation is trippin’ this is music
you can hear why this song would be a hit with teenage girls...plus she had a soulful voice...
Hi jade, how are you doing
Every time I hear Brenda sing I'm reminded of my sweet brother, now gone these 32 years. He sure loved her singing and would play her records till they were worn out. I was too young then to fully appreciate her, but now I see why he loved her. Lovely voice and lovely lady.
We didnt watch ES as kids cuz my mom loved Perry Mason on a different channel at the same time. Love watching his shows now. If it wasnt for ES, we wouldnt have videos of the greatest talents of that era.
Just an amazing voice and we are able to see her singing it in 2021
I am 36 I have loved the way this woman sings since I was young the raw emotions she gives you during her performance is truly a once In a lifetime experience
What a lovely era!
Such a stunning performance!
gotta love that rockabilly thing she does and the breaks..such a unique voice
The 4’9” powerhouse. So much attitude in a time when such things weren’t becoming of a young lady. What a gift she was. A total badass.
Beautiful, just beautiful, she ' been singing since she a little girl
Hello 🤗, how are you doing?
What a talent
There are singers and songs you just never get tired of hearing. Love Brenda Lee ..
Fell in love with Brenda Lee from the first time I heard Her
My sister used to sing just like her. She missed her calling. She's gone now at 73. I hear this brings back memories.
Webster’s dictionary,,, adorable, having the quality of innate attractiveness and amicable demeanor.
Brenda an 🇺🇸 American treasure and a gift to us all. St Patrick’s day🌿 🟩☘️🟩🌿2021.
Great beautiful singer then and forever❤🎉
I was 11 years old and I remember this song playing all day in Canada. Beautiful song!
I wich that someone make a movie abt her ,it will be perfect.
One of the Great ones ! Awesome Voice 💥
My favorite female singer of all time.
Mine too, only Elvis I rank higher !
Connie Francis, of the period was also very talented.
@@edwardalamo2507 totally agree and it’s a shame she isn’t in R&R hall of fame while folk singers like Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins and jazz singer Nina Simone are !
To me
The greatest female singer of all time
I've wrestled for years with the question of who is the greatest female singer of all time. There are four names bouncing around in my head: Connie Francis, Petula Clark, Patsy Cline and Brenda Lee.
@@reneleclerc6119 Nice list. I would add Tammy and Gladys
What a great voice
What a voice.
I've always LOVED Brenda Lee. What a voice. Powerful. Like Patty Lovelass.
Hello Marilyn, how are you doing today?
Such emotion, the power of her spirt!!
This single was produced by the legendary Owen Bradley who, next to Chet Atkins, was a designer of those Classic Nashville sounds of that bygone, but still admired and loved era of American popular music. And that is the great Floyd Cramer on piano; you can immediately identify it by his tone and technique can't you?
Boots Randolph also played the saxophone during her recording sessions too!
The Nashville Sound created by Bradley and Atkins is my favorite genre of music.
Thanks for calling it to our attention! Hadn’t heard his name in many years.
yes, Floyd also played on many of Presley's hits, in the same gentle style.....yet he had a big hit on his own that was a real stomper...find "On The Rebound" here on youtube and give a listen
I believe she was singing in her Southern Baptist Church at five. GOD bless her.
What a talent!
Emotion was built right in her voice. Didn't need any gimmicks...all there in that unique voice.
Really amazing. An Egyptian passed through here .
Love miss Brenda.met Skeeter davis once.loved her too.wish I could have met Brenda.
Had such a big talent she needed nothing else! Love you Brenda Lee!
Hello Mary, how are you doing today?
Have to live in the past. Never see these kind of Singers again.
Brenda Lee had an amazing voice.
She has been my idol since I was 6.. I met her at the Royal York Hotel in Canada.. I was taken to her dressing room at intermission... She stepped out of the shower, sat in front of the makeup mirror and spoke to me as if she knew me... I had every record she ever made and play her music constantly. I'm 73 and still get goose bumps listening to her music.. She was and is an icon...
I just love listening Brenda Lee
Amazing
Little Brenda Lee, powerful, dynamic voice, wow!!!
Hi 👋, how are you doing
Hello madam, how are you?

This was another one on my personal want list! I love Brenda Lee's ballads and this is one of my favorites. A beautiful song and video; thank you!
Congrats Tom. This one was indeed a gem.
@@shyman99 Thanks, I went through all the episodes and compiled a want list of at least 250 performances from Ed Sullivan and Toast of the Town, and I get excited when they post one I've wanted to see! The Jan Peerce "Serenade" video was one of my absolute most-wanted, and this was another one I was waiting for. It's from the same episode too! Now, I'm really excited to see what this channel posts every day again!
One voice says it all love it

It is amazing how such powerful voices come out of tiny ladies like Edith Piaf, Judy Garland and, of course, Brenda Lee😊❤❤

She has a unique voice.
I grew up in West Africa hearing this music in the background in the 60's. It still gives me goosebumps and fond memories of my childhood.😊❤❤❤
