  • All things considered, this has been a pretty good weed-eater/trimmer. I would classify it as a "maintainer" rather than a work-horse. If you keep your lawn cut and the weeds knocked down, then this is a good tool to maintain it. It can handle most common weeds and grass.
It comes with the battery, charger, and about 4 feet of weak, 0.08 string. I was able to put 0.095 Stihl string in mine, and it still ejects the string properly. And the Stihl string is far superior to the cheap blue string that Kobalt sells.
The battery seems to have a decent life. It took about 2.5 hours to charge from empty. I used it continuously for over an hour and it still had 2 bars of charge. At low speed, I think you can get over 2 hours non-stop of use. But I have not proven this yet. Also, I do not yet know how the Mississippi heat will affect the battery. More on that later this summer.
The battery can be used in any of the other Kobalt 40V tools, which is a big plus. I also have the 40V 14" chain saw and it works great. • Kobalt 40V Chainsaw Re...
    Overall, not a bad tool.

Bought my first kobalt mower on clearance for $79.came with battery & charger. I then went on Craigslist & got a kobalt mower plus 3 batterys a d 2 chargers all from 2012 For Free!!. They all still work but the 3 oldest batterys only charger enough for 10 minute run time. Just bought a new blower and hedgetrimmer yesterday. Both came with batterys and a charger each. It's cheaper to upgrade the tools and get a new battery & charger than to just buy a new battery. I've been using kobalt now 7 years & all my equipment still works, I just ha e 2 sets of everything for my two property's & that's nice. My weedeaters I use to cut 3' swath along outer 600' fence leading down our driveway to the house with no problems a d I use these on our 10rental house property's to

Love this guy. He showed us how to advance the string. We have struggled with that.

Good video, this helped a lot. I still have trouble trying to wind in the cord , that plastic knob is so hard to turn. I saw another way on line to install the cord without having to wind it.

Mike, I really liked your video on the Kobalt 40volt Trimmer. I am a Kobalt tool owner and user and I have thoroughly enjoyed using these 24volt battery powered tools.
I have owned the following Kobalt 24 volt tools for 9-1/2 years; drill driver; impact driver; 7-1/4" circular saw; Reciprocating Saw; Chain Saw; and Pole Saw.
In addition, I have owned a 40volt Lawnmower for 9-1/2 years without a single issue.
I really enjoy using the Kobalt tool brand tools and highly recommend them to all of my friends and family.
Finally, I like and appreciate how Lowe's Home Center stands behind it's 5-year warranty for their Kobalt owned and branded tools!
    Well done on your review!

Thank you. I appreciate the feedback. Kobalt has come a long way. The better known brands don't have nearly the longevity and quality they used to have, which is why I tried Kobalt. So far so good.

Mike, thanks for the video it's packed with a lot of very helpful info (restring). I just bought a new Kobalt weed eater I never used a weed eater before so I was lost on how to use it. I looked at other videos on CZcams and they were not as good as yours. 2 thumbs up.

This is an excellent review thank you. Thank you for showing how to restring it. I have the 40v leaf blower and it’s very powerful I was shocked.

Had same problem with screw on hinge not flushing. Pool clamp for hoses did the job.

I read somewhere in many reviews the motor has a fan cooling it, as opposed to other motors.

I have a lonely 40 v trimmer. I hate it. The only reason I keep using it is because I have 3 batteries for it and don’t want to buy batteries for a different weed trimmer. I spend more time try it to replace the string than I do trimming. There’s got to be a better design for changing the string. Evidently I’m not the only one that has trouble with it, considering the number of videos out there on how to restring it. I wouldn’t advise anyone to buy a Kobalt!!

All string trimmers can be annoying to restring. Of the 4 different ones I’ve owned, 3 of them used this method and once you get the hang of it, it’s fine. But if you really just don’t want to mess with it, there IS an easier way so you’re in luck! Just buy the pre-wound spools! Those are made just for you any anyone else who hates to restring.
One battery trimmer out there uses the battery to spin the head for you to assist in restring, but that only helps a tad. Restringing will always be annoying, it’s just part of string trimmer life. You just need to practice to find the little details that help you personally, like using pliers or a clamp to twist the head, or use the pre-strung spools. You could also switch to the solid blades instead of string, but I never had good luck with those. They wear out and break pretty fast so they end up even more annoying in my experience. If you can avoid EVER hitting anything like a fence, tree, curb, or other hard obstacle, EVER, then the solid blades might work out better for you.

Had mine for 3 yrs. Batteries still good but the trimmer cuts off every 3 seconds. But if you let off the switch then squeeze it again it starts back up. Aggravating as crap

It sounds like the trimmer motor is overheating.

You're definitely not the only one. My neighbor bought one and brought it to house because he could not get the guard on. It's a bad design.

ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Had mine for 2 years then it stopped working... it runs still but too slow to be useful. DO NOT BUY. Also had several batteries go bad too.
