Just want to say THANK YOU for this video. Our weed eater head broke yesterday and when we searched for a replacement we discovered there wasn't one. After a Google search we found your video. We went to Lowe's today and bought the Husqvarna T25 trimmer head you recommended for $20. Just got it put on trimmer and it works. Thankfully we don't have to spend $160+ for a new one.

After a day of fruitless and aggravating searching I determined that Kobalt didn't support this spare part and came across your video. Thank you sir and well done. Wish the employees at Lowe's would have known this tip as that would have saved me a return trip to get these parts!!!
Sometime improvising is the key. I'm so glad this helped. Mine has been going strong since I fixed it. Better than spending $100-$350 for a new unit for sure.
If all you need is the actual bump head then the Husqvarna will fit into the Kobalt assembly. I ordered the T25 after watching this video but was hesitant to replace the whole assembly. I just dropped the bumper in the Kobalt housing and it fit like a glove. Gave it a few bumps to be sure it was going to work and it works great.

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use czcams.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
OMG! Thank you! My weed eater was as bad as yours and I was resigned to getting a new one when I stumbled onto this video. The hardest part was loosening that damn screw. I was ready to give up (WD-40… nothing was working) and I finally asked my husband for help. He almost gave up too and then; success!! The rest went slick as snot and I basically have a new weed eater. Now I can buy more fabric with the money I saved 😊

Did you try to go backward with the threads in reverse? Maybe that was the issue... If not, try using PB Blaster. Spray the nut and let it soak. Repeat as necessary.

The replacement part in the manual shows up as being made Greenworks when I did a Google search. They don't sell it anymore either, but I was able to find one at M&D (Mower and Appliance) that worked perfectly.
Man I owe you a beer! My trimmer was only two summers old and I don’t know if something changed between when you got your trimmer and mine but I didn’t have the C ring on mine. Other that that everything worked perfectly! Again, owe you a beer!

Thanks you!!! My Kobalt trimmer is like new again. These instructions worked perfectly. My trimmer didn’t have the retaining ring, so I’m sending back the unused tool. I was concerned about the washers fitting, but standard metric M10 flats were the perfect thickness, and diameter. Thanks again!
I can not seem to find washers that are able to: 1. Fit inside the T25 head AND 2. Fit over the bolt. Does anyone have any tips or links on what I could about this problem?

This is wonderful, thank you for posting this and showing us how to fix the Kobalt 40V weed eater head. Kobalt does not have a replacement head as far as I have looked and searched. Thank you for the information, the problem I had was with a Kobalt KST2540-06 slightly different than your model. This had different requirements and I have seen several people comment about the model. A. I used a replacement Makita Trimmer head Part No. 191R00-0. Used your instructions for disassembly, removed C-Clip retainer which I broke. Then held the screw with the screw driver and turned the spindle CC wise to remove. Once removed I saved the original nut by tapping it out of spindle from bottom (10MM x 125). Then did the same on the new Makita Trimmer head, this new nut will not be used. Then lined up the nut from the original KST spindle inserted into the Makita spindle. Perfect fit no washers needed, just tighten and put on a new C-clip (I used a Hillman 3/8 clip) Metric was not available. Very easy, after trying many other trimmer heads that didn't work out. I did start with calling Kobalt 888-356-2258 and was told the trimmer head was out of stock for my model.

I have the same model kobalt kst 2540 06 so I s'pose I'll try to get that Makita head as well. I have to say the actual rest of the trimmer is really excellent. Lightweight, quick charging, long lasting. Couldn't complain. But that original head lost it's spring and feed real quick, like maybe after a single season.

My kobalt trimmer head broke and I couldn't find a kobalt replacement. (They don't make them). This video is excellent and I was able to replace mine after watching the video. Well done!
For anyone with a KST 1040 model, I was able to get the Rhino-Tuff “Pivot Trim” head right onto the shaft. It uses the “fixed line” system, but it works!

Helpful video! My wife bought a brand new Kobalt weed eater from Lowes. Somehow, straight out of the box, the weed eater wasn’t feeding out line at all; no matter how many times you hit it on the ground. Never could figure out why. Finally just discovered the Kobalt weed eater left China without a bump head spring. No wonder why it wasn’t working. Must be a shortage of springs in China, just not include one. Thanks to your video I finally have a good solution to get the new weed eater working. I’ll head over to Lowes, see what they have. 🙂👍
Wow thats not cool! I guess anything flies anymore nowadays. It's crazy... I am glad you found the video helpful. Realistically this fix can almost apply to any weed eater with minor modifications. You know how they are all built practically the same. Good luck on you fix. Also you may be able to just buy the bump head and spring online, maybe check into that it might help save a few bucks and time.
@@HowToDIYMoore , I was on the Kobalt website, and I did find a replacement bump head for sale. The downside is, I have no idea if the replacement spring is included or not. It’s a gamble with the cost of shipping and waiting around. Might be better to run to Lowes with the Harley and see if I can get it working sooner. The tall spring is all I’m missing. My wifey also bought a B&D weed eater several years ago, that includes a motorized line feed system. I think this is far better than the body slam feed bump thing with the Kobalt. The B&D weed eater just needs a few small parts I already ordered, to have it work again.
@@ChrisCromwellHP That's one way to get a nice ride in on the Harley. Why don't you put the ball in kobalts court and have them make it right since you just bought it. Look down below in the video description there are 2 phone numbers to contact them. I would see if it could be taken care of for free first. Would be worth waiting if free.

The best they could offer is for me to return the entire weed eater for another new one under warranty; all under a $1 spring. Too much of a pain. I’ll see if your solution will be easier with less hassle. Might as well grab more trimmer line for the Kobalt while I’m there.

Thank you. BTW, that is a "snap ring" with "snap ring pliers" and it's "right tightly, lefty loosey" so you would say "it has reverse threads that tighten counterclockwise". 😊

Just wanted to say thanks for the info and video. My old head was not in much better shape than yours.After unsuccessful search for replacement head found your video. Install went easy, since I already had all the needed tools and washers. My old head did not have the snap ring (retaining clip), but I had a tray full of those and installed one anyway. Everything seems to work fine, but a bit more vibration so will see it that becomes a problem. That could be from the much heavier trim line (0.8 vs 0.65). Still a lot cheaper than the $130 to replace the whole trimmer with a new unit.

I ordered it last week and it is a newer style than my 40v (purchased mine Summer 2021). Specifically, it fits the Kobalt with an oblong bolt not a round bolt. If you have the round bolt like in this video then it won't fit your trimmer.

Take your Kobalt unit with you and find a nut on that isle that will fit the threads and hold the washers in place. You can use Loctite to hold the nut in place. 2 - Contact "Kobalt" directly @ 1-888-3KOBALT or 1-888-775-6937 and dispute your issue with them. You may be able to order the part directly to resolve your issue.
Great video. I’ve been looking for this exact solution to replace mine with something better. Very well detailed, step by step instructions. I happen to have the need to go to Lowe’s today for a toilet repair. I’m grabbing the parts and tools for this job while I’m there. Love my Kobalt trimmer but I’ve never been happy with the head. Line doesn’t want to feed thru all the time and when it does, it doesn’t seem to hold that much. Maybe a few feet at best before I can’t twist it anymore. Also the li e doesn’t always want to advance when I bump it. Stay tuned.

Kobalt uses a 10mm x 1 lh thread pitch. The Stihl fa85 and fs90 uses the same thread 10mm x 1 mm pitch lh. So any head assembly that is designed for that Shihl could be modified to fit the 40v Kobalt.

Very helpful video. I lost the adapter that fits over the shaft that the head rests on. I have tried stacking some 10mm washers but and concerned that this is not a good solution. Ayn suggestions?
Without seeing it its hard to picture, but what if you take it to lowes or hardware store and find a bolt or nut to replace your missing piece. Or I would recommend you just call Kobalt and or pull up oe diagram online to order your missing part. If you can't make it locally I would try to order directly. Hopefully this helps! 😁

Thank you!!! I don't personally know, but some people have reported the same thing. They have said they don't have the c clamp, but it has worked on theirs.
thanks for this. Do you want to use enough washers so that the nut, when tightened, will remain above the hex indent? If that is the case, then I, like another poster, will need 6 washers. With only 3, there is a little play and the head can move slightly off center relative to that screw in the center.
Your welcome, just put enough so the head is snug however many the case is for you. The most important thing is to make sure that it is snug and tight. It seems they made a few variations of the Kobalt. You may have the same model as the other person that had to use 6 washers. Thanks again for watching!
I don't have that model so unfortunately I'm not sure. What I can say is this will work for almost any kind of trimmer. Just improvise and adjust where needed. For example you may need a different size washer, ect. Thanks for watching.
For those, wondering if you'll need those (3) 10mm washers? YES, you do. If not, it won't sit right and will move on you, which will lead to it breaking again.

Thank you so much for this! I am in the same bboat here. Does the old string spools work on the new head unit? I have replacement spools pre loaded with string at all times for when I run out that way I can just grab and go and restring the next spool after weed eating. Did not know if I needed to get specfic ones for the new head unit. Thanks again for this video!
Hey, I'm glad this helped you out. Those new spools won't work with this thing, but it's super easy and cheap to just buy one big roll. I'd recommend that since it's really easy to wind onto the unit. It doesn't take long at all, and it's way cheaper. You can even use your old wire to wind onto the new head to save some money, too. Great video! What size nut would fit on that stud? Mine has the larger nut not the smaller square one so I’m going to try to get a smaller nut to go on.

Thanks so much for the video. Unfortunately, even though my model number is the same as yours, the design changed and my old nut does not work. Probably going to have to return the replacement head. By the way, my snap ring came out easily with a screw driver; didn't have to buy a tool.

Well, if it was me, I would improvise and do the same thing, but with your 24v max. Take the head apart and see if you can do the same head as mine, then go from there.
Really wish you could have given us a view of the head when you were removing the parts. Every time you zoomed closer we were looking at the work table surface with very little view of the head. We are still struggling. Our KST 2540-06 (dual head) is a bit different, Other than that, we appreciate that you take the time to help others.
I am sorry. At the time I didn't have a tripod and i had to set it on something above my head to film this. I tried the best I could with what I had. I filmed it with a cell phone. Unfortunately there isn't any resolution but doing something like this. Just keep trying and improvise what I did as best as you can. When I did it I had no guide at all. I went to the store with my unit and walked around for hours trying to get a plan on how to fix it. When I filmed this video I was still unsure if it would work or not. I filmed it just in case because I knew it could help someone. Thanks for watching.
I purchased a 2540-06..it was the display and after i got it home, found that someone had stolen the head. Of course kobalt no longer supplies the head. Was given the link, to this video. My boyfriend watched it and purchased the parts. When he took it apart, that nut is not on there. It is a different set up. Wondering if we need to find that perfect nut..then it will work. Anyone else run into the same problem? Because, of course, dont know if it is metric or standard and what size the shaft is, to thread that nut on.
Yo, if I were you, I'd go back to the store and ask them to give you the head. If they don't, I'd just figure out a way to make it work. It's hard to say without seeing it, though.
Hello. Quick question. What keeps the replacement head from moving? When i tighten with the original nut it is able to move because it is smaller than the space where the hex bolt was. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks
I recommend using the (x3) 10mm washers, then the new head, then the nut. After the nut put the snap ring back on. It will not move after that. Maybe try rewatching from where it's diensembeled to the end again. I hope this helps.

I wonder if this will work on the kobalt kst 2540 .. well looks like reading another comment that the Makita Trimmer head Part No. 191R00-0 should work. Thank goodness I really like the trimmer otherwise.

The washers might have been a different size than the ones I used. I didn't have to force mine in, and they went in smoothly. Did you try removing the screw and then running your unit? The nut and washers only hold it on the wacker.
They're 10mm, maybe just not machined well... I ended up chipping the walls a bit and they did fit snugly. I also realized the seizing up was because I had forgot to be the small metal cylinder piece back in. Now my problem is that I can't get the blue bump cap to stay down! Even if I force the whole assembly together, it'll come loose inside and spool out all the wire. Any help is appreciated!
@nathanprindler Sounds like there are too many washers, or there is dirt or debris on the head. You need to rewatch and do exactly as I did it. I'm not sure why there is so much trouble with yours. Try taking a washer out or 2, then see if it works.
There you go, good job. Now at least you're up and running. Unfortunately, there's no perfect way to do it. It's all an experiment with each different [thing].
I would get you some PB Blaster penetrative spray. Then, soak it into that stuff and let it sit several times till it breaks free. That's what I would personally do first. Then go from there.
So far this video is great! Unfortunately, I can't get the screw (at 5:09) to turn, and I know that i'm supposed to be turning it to the right or clockwise. Please, anyone with suggestions???
Ok yes your correct the threads are reversed! So just make sure you have the clip removed and if so it may be seized. Just try spraying some PB Blaster on it and letting it soak for 15-30 min or so then try it again. Repeat as necessary.

I used 4 washers to get mine tight, but after I put everything back together, with a fully charged battery, it just clicks and won't spin the head. It seems to tighten the nut even more and won't spin. Thoughts?
Could you possibly tell me the diameter of the 10 mm washers ? Outside to outside edge. I bought some 10 mm washers and they will not fit into the hexagonal area .
I don't have the exact diameter without pulling my unit apart, but this is the link to the exact washer I used when I repaired mine. @@HowToDIYMoore Do to the distance Lowes is from my house and ordering time. I came up with a different solution . I took the black nut spacer you threw out. Except mine was silver. I drilled the threads out of it so it would fit down on the threaded stud of Kobalt . Then I ground the part off of it that was in the spring. Put it right back in the T25 head and slid it down on the Kobalt stud and screwed the nut back on it. Basically I used that piece instead of the washers. But the idea of using the T25 assembly came from you. Thanks again .

If I didn't have to clean the unit with pressure washer ( which my exterior hose is winterized) and pull apart my unit I would have done this for you. This should work relatively close for most trimmers with the same setup. You will just have to modify some of the pieces. I'd say give it a shot. If you have to take it to the store and fit the washers to it there. That's what I did.

Yeah it was a pain in the butt for me too. Step away for a few minutes, then I think it was reversed threads. I went opposite way to get the threads lined up then once I felt it line into place I switched directions and started threading. I hope this helps you.
Just want to say THANK YOU for this video. Our weed eater head broke yesterday and when we searched for a replacement we discovered there wasn't one. After a Google search we found your video. We went to Lowe's today and bought the Husqvarna T25 trimmer head you recommended for $20. Just got it put on trimmer and it works. Thankfully we don't have to spend $160+ for a new one.

After a day of fruitless and aggravating searching I determined that Kobalt didn't support this spare part and came across your video. Thank you sir and well done. Wish the employees at Lowe's would have known this tip as that would have saved me a return trip to get these parts!!!
Sometime improvising is the key. I'm so glad this helped. Mine has been going strong since I fixed it. Better than spending $100-$350 for a new unit for sure.
If all you need is the actual bump head then the Husqvarna will fit into the Kobalt assembly. I ordered the T25 after watching this video but was hesitant to replace the whole assembly. I just dropped the bumper in the Kobalt housing and it fit like a glove. Gave it a few bumps to be sure it was going to work and it works great.
Very clever!!! Unfortunately you could see how bad my head was. I am glad that worked great for you. Also fyi you can purchase just the bump heads online in like packs of 3. Maybe that will help you for the future as well. Thanks for sharing your experience and commenting!

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use czcams.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

OMG! Thank you! My weed eater was as bad as yours and I was resigned to getting a new one when I stumbled onto this video. The hardest part was loosening that damn screw. I was ready to give up (WD-40… nothing was working) and I finally asked my husband for help. He almost gave up too and then; success!!

I'm curious about how you used the awl, as our trimmer's nut (once the C ring was removed) isn't budging despite a lot of leverage.
Did you try to go backward with the threads in reverse? Maybe that was the issue... If not, try using PB Blaster. Spray the nut and let it soak. Repeat as necessary.

The replacement part in the manual shows up as being made Greenworks when I did a Google search. They don't sell it anymore either, but I was able to find one at M&D (Mower and Appliance) that worked perfectly.

This is wonderful, thank you for posting this and showing us how to fix the Kobalt 40V weed eater head. Kobalt does not have a replacement head as far as I have looked and searched. Also, Lowes has no solutions from the folks I have talked to there.

Thank you for the information, the problem I had was with a Kobalt KST2540-06 slightly different than your model. This had different requirements and I have seen several people comment about the model. A. I used a replacement Makita Trimmer head Part No. 191R00-0. Used your instructions for disassembly, removed C-Clip retainer which I broke. Then held the screw with the screw driver and turned the spindle CC wise to remove. Once removed I saved the original nut by tapping it out of spindle from bottom (10MM x 125). Then did the same on the new Makita Trimmer head, this new nut will not be used. Then lined up the nut from the original KST spindle inserted into the Makita spindle. Perfect fit no washers needed, just tighten and put on a new C-clip (I used a Hillman 3/8 clip) Metric was not available. Very easy, after trying many other trimmer heads that didn't work out. I did start with calling Kobalt 888-356-2258 and was told the trimmer head was out of stock for my model.

I have the same model kobalt kst 2540 06 so I s'pose I'll try to get that Makita head as well. I have to say the actual rest of the trimmer is really excellent. Lightweight, quick charging, long lasting. Couldn't complain. But that original head lost it's spring and feed real quick, like maybe after a single season.
Alright, that sounds like a good idea. Keep me updated on how the repair goes. I'm always interested in learning how other people do things. It should be great once you get it fixed. The trimmer has worked really well for me, except for the whole head issue. Thanks again for watching!

For anyone with a KST 1040 model, I was able to get the Rhino-Tuff “Pivot Trim” head right onto the shaft. It uses the “fixed line” system, but it works!

Helpful video! My wife bought a brand new Kobalt weed eater from Lowes. Somehow, straight out of the box, the weed eater wasn’t feeding out line at all; no matter how many times you hit it on the ground. Never could figure out why. Finally just discovered the Kobalt weed eater left China without a bump head spring. No wonder why it wasn’t working.
Must be a shortage of springs in China, just not include one.
Thanks to your video I finally have a good solution to get the new weed eater working. I’ll head over to Lowes, see what they have. 🙂👍
Wow thats not cool! I guess anything flies anymore nowadays. It's crazy... I am glad you found the video helpful. Realistically this fix can almost apply to any weed eater with minor modifications. You know how they are all built practically the same. Good luck on you fix. Also you may be able to just buy the bump head and spring online, maybe check into that it might help save a few bucks and time.
@@HowToDIYMoore , I was on the Kobalt website, and I did find a replacement bump head for sale. The downside is, I have no idea if the replacement spring is included or not. It’s a gamble with the cost of shipping and waiting around. Might be better to run to Lowes with the Harley and see if I can get it working sooner. The tall spring is all I’m missing.
My wifey also bought a B&D weed eater several years ago, that includes a motorized line feed system. I think this is far better than the body slam feed bump thing with the Kobalt.
The B&D weed eater just needs a few small parts I already ordered, to have it work again.
@@ChrisCromwellHP That's one way to get a nice ride in on the Harley. Why don't you put the ball in kobalts court and have them make it right since you just bought it. Look down below in the video description there are 2 phone numbers to contact them. I would see if it could be taken care of for free first. Would be worth waiting if free.

The best they could offer is for me to return the entire weed eater for another new one under warranty; all under a $1 spring. Too much of a pain. I’ll see if your solution will be easier with less hassle. Might as well grab more trimmer line for the Kobalt while I’m there.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info and video. My old head was not in much better shape than yours.After unsuccessful search for replacement head found your video. Install went easy, since I already had all the needed tools and washers. My old head did not have the snap ring (retaining clip), but I had a tray full of those and installed one anyway. Everything seems to work fine, but a bit more vibration so will see it that becomes a problem. That could be from the much heavier trim line (0.8 vs 0.65). Still a lot cheaper than the $130 to replace the whole trimmer with a new unit.

You CAN get a new head by calling Kobalt. About $13, but I hate bump heads. Trying ro put on my Pivotrim head.
Great to know, it's funny how the part isn't available in the stores. Some people I have spoke to had trouble getting it.
I ordered it last week and it is a newer style than my 40v (purchased mine Summer 2021). Specifically, it fits the Kobalt with an oblong bolt not a round bolt. If you have the round bolt like in this video then it won't fit your trimmer.

1 - I would drive down to the local parts store or "Lowes" and go to the nut and bolt isle. Take your Kobalt unit with you and find a nut on that isle that will fit the threads and hold the washers in place. You can use Loctite to hold the nut in place.
2 - Contact "Kobalt" directly @ 1-888-3KOBALT or 1-888-775-6937 and dispute your issue with them. You may be able to order the part directly to resolve your issue.

I happen to have the need to go to Lowe’s today for a toilet repair. I’m grabbing the parts and tools for this job while I’m there.
Love my Kobalt trimmer but I’ve never been happy with the head. Line doesn’t want to feed thru all the time and when it does, it doesn’t seem to hold that much. Maybe a few feet at best before I can’t twist it anymore. Also the li e doesn’t always want to advance when I bump it.

Kobalt uses a 10mm x 1 lh thread pitch. The Stihl fa85 and fs90 uses the same thread 10mm x 1 mm pitch lh. So any head assembly that is designed for that Shihl could be modified to fit the 40v Kobalt.

Very helpful video. I lost the adapter that fits over the shaft that the head rests on. I have tried stacking some 10mm washers but and concerned that this is not a good solution. Ayn suggestions?
Without seeing it its hard to picture, but what if you take it to lowes or hardware store and find a bolt or nut to replace your missing piece. Or I would recommend you just call Kobalt and or pull up oe diagram online to order your missing part. If you can't make it locally I would try to order directly. Hopefully this helps! 😁

thanks for this. Do you want to use enough washers so that the nut, when tightened, will remain above the hex indent? If that is the case, then I, like another poster, will need 6 washers. With only 3, there is a little play and the head can move slightly off center relative to that screw in the center.
Your welcome, just put enough so the head is snug however many the case is for you. The most important thing is to make sure that it is snug and tight. It seems they made a few variations of the Kobalt. You may have the same model as the other person that had to use 6 washers. Thanks again for watching!
Will this work with the KST1341-06 Model? The model is slightly older.
I don't have that model so unfortunately I'm not sure. What I can say is this will work for almost any kind of trimmer. Just improvise and adjust where needed. For example you may need a different size washer, ect. Thanks for watching.
For those, wondering if you'll need those (3) 10mm washers? YES, you do. If not, it won't sit right and will move on you, which will lead to it breaking again.

1 - I would drive down to the local parts store or "Lowes" and go to the nut and bolt isle. Take your Kobalt unit with you and find a nut on that isle that will fit the threads and hold the washers in place. You can use Loctite to hold the nut in place.
2 - Contact "Kobalt" directly @ 1-888-3KOBALT or 1-888-775-6937 and dispute your issue with them. You may be able to order the part directly to resolve your issue.

I have replacement spools pre loaded with string at all times for when I run out that way I can just grab and go and restring the next spool after weed eating. Hey, I'm glad this helped you out. Those new spools won't work with this thing, but it's super easy and cheap to just buy one big roll. I'd recommend that since it's really easy to wind onto the unit. It doesn't take long at all, and it's way cheaper. You can even use your old wire to wind onto the new head to save some money, too. Great video! What size nut would fit on that stud? Mine has the larger nut not the smaller square one so I’m going to try to get a smaller nut to go on.

Thanks so much for the video. Unfortunately, even though my model number is the same as yours, the design changed and my old nut does not work. Probably going to have to return the replacement head. By the way, my snap ring came out easily with a screw driver; didn't have to buy a tool.

Well, if it was me, I would improvise and do the same thing, but with your 24v max. Take the head apart and see if you can do the same head as mine, then go from there.
Really wish you could have given us a view of the head when you were removing the parts. Every time you zoomed closer we were looking at the work table surface with very little view of the head. We are still struggling. Our KST 2540-06 (dual head) is a bit different, Other than that, we appreciate that you take the time to help others.
I am sorry. At the time I didn't have a tripod and i had to set it on something above my head to film this. I tried the best I could with what I had. I filmed it with a cell phone. Unfortunately there isn't any resolution but doing something like this. Just keep trying and improvise what I did as best as you can. When I did it I had no guide at all. I went to the store with my unit and walked around for hours trying to get a plan on how to fix it. When I filmed this video I was still unsure if it would work or not. I purchased a 2540-06..it was the display and after i got it home, found that someone had stolen the head. Of course kobalt no longer supplies the head. Was given the link, to this video. My boyfriend watched it and purchased the parts. When he took it apart, that nut is not on there. It is a different set up. Wondering if we need to find that perfect nut..then it will work. Anyone else run into the same problem? Because, of course, dont know if it is metric or standard and what size the shaft is, to thread that nut on.
Yo, if I were you, I'd go back to the store and ask them to give you the head. If they don't, I'd just figure out a way to make it work. It's hard to say without seeing it, though.
Hello. Quick question. What keeps the replacement head from moving? When i tighten with the original nut it is able to move because it is smaller than the space where the hex bolt was. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks
I recommend using the (x3) 10mm washers, then the new head, then the nut. After the nut put the snap ring back on. It will not move after that. Maybe try rewatching from where it's diensembeled to the end again. I hope this helps.

I wonder if this will work on the kobalt kst 2540 .. well looks like reading another comment that the Makita Trimmer head Part No. 191R00-0 should work. Thank goodness I really like the trimmer otherwise.

The 10mm washers didn't quite fit in my T25 replacement head. I had to force them and then the head seized up when I reassembled it.
The washers might have been a different size than the ones I used. I didn't have to force mine in, and they went in smoothly. Did you try removing the screw and then running your unit? The nut and washers only hold it on the wacker.
They're 10mm, maybe just not machined well... I ended up chipping the walls a bit and they did fit snugly. I also realized the seizing up was because I had forgot to be the small metal cylinder piece back in.
Now my problem is that I can't get the blue bump cap to stay down! Even if I force the whole assembly together, it'll come loose inside and spool out all the wire. Any help is appreciated!
@nathanprindler Sounds like there are too many washers, or there is dirt or debris on the head. You need to rewatch and do exactly as I did it. I'm not sure why there is so much trouble with yours. Try taking a washer out or 2, then see if it works.
I couldn't get the bump cap to stay in. I finally made it work by putting the old wide spring in the bump cap.
There you go, good job. Now at least you're up and running. Unfortunately, there's no perfect way to do it. It's all an experiment with each different [thing].
At the 5 minute mark, removing the old head. My center screw will not budge either way. Any ideas on how to get it to budge?
I would get you some PB Blaster penetrative spray. Then, soak it into that stuff and let it sit several times till it breaks free. That's what I would personally do first. Then go from there.

Ok yes your correct the threads are reversed! So just make sure you have the clip removed and if so it may be seized. Just try spraying some PB Blaster on it and letting it soak for 15-30 min or so then try it again. Repeat as necessary.

That's not good, you may have to implement this concept but do a different head. Also your trimmer may be completely or slightly different than mine.
I used 4 washers to get mine tight, but after I put everything back together, with a fully charged battery, it just clicks and won't spin the head. It seems to tighten the nut even more and won't spin. Thoughts?
I found the problem. I put the stupid factory spacer upside down. LOL Works like a champ!

Could you possibly tell me the diameter of the 10 mm washers ? Outside to outside edge. I bought some 10 mm washers and they will not fit into the hexagonal area .

@@HowToDIYMoore Do to the distance Lowes is from my house and ordering time. I came up with a different solution . I took the black nut spacer you threw out. Except mine was silver. I drilled the threads out of it so it would fit down on the threaded stud of Kobalt . Then I ground the part off of it that was in the spring. Put it right back in the T25 head and slid it down on the Kobalt stud and screwed the nut back on it. Basically I used that piece instead of the washers. But the idea of using the T25 assembly came from you. Thanks again .

If I didn't have to clean the unit with pressure washer ( which my exterior hose is winterized) and pull apart my unit I would have done this for you. This should work relatively close for most trimmers with the same setup. You will just have to modify some of the pieces. I'd say give it a shot. If you have to take it to the store and fit the washers to it there. That's what I did.

Yeah it was a pain in the butt for me too. Step away for a few minutes, then I think it was reversed threads. I went opposite way to get the threads lined up then once I felt it line into place I switched directions and started threading. I hope this helps you.
