I didn't expect to like Cobra Kai. After watching both seasons, I love it. This is how you bring back a franchise. It pays all the respect in the world to what came before, and asks questions that haven't been asked. If only every revival were handled like this.
Martin Kove one word comes to mnd about him.........Class . such a really good guy .
Yep. Pretty much the opposite of John Kreese.
available came to mind for me
@@peterkrug4124 John Kreese has class, too. ... John Kreese is an excellent leader.
That's a really good backstory. Makes Kreese more than "evil" for the sake of being evil. He's merciless because the enemy didn't show his men mercy and mercy towards the enemy would get them killed.
I dont think he's evil. The problem with him just like a parent he's set in his old ways and dont wanna change. For the most part he was right in his no mercy. Johnny proved him right.
This is both awesome and a little awkward because how I'm I suppose to keep hating this guy while Kove is a behaving like a world class nice dude
It sounds like the show is going to humanize him so you may not have to hate him as much.
It's funny, but I've seen that often people playing the good guys can be egomaniacs. and the actors playing the evil characters are often really kind and sensitive.
@@eternalhalloween1 you are damn right. Playing the bad guys probably means you need less ego
@@tmrevenge One of my favorites was when someone asked the actor who did a REALLY evil character if he was anything like that. And he answered: "Well, I would hope not. My character basically represents evil, cruelty, and unfairness. And I would hope that I'm the very opposite of that." Good for him! :)
Love the actor, just hate his character.
They are not the same guy.
Martin Kove is really enjoying the spotlight after 30yrs..must be very exciting for him!!! I remember he was awesome in Rambo part 2!
Did Martin Kove play any other villain beside John Kreese?
I can't wait to see backstory flashbacks of tKreese before the karate kid movie as they did with the child Johnny. Maybe they will do a Miyagi backstory flashback in the future.
Life Upgrade ...i can def see a Miyagi and sato spin off happen in season 4 or 5 when the larusso saga ends. Sato rose to power and miyagi stole his woman
of course, it's only a youtube series, so the spotlight isn't that bright. But hopefully it'll lead to more roles for him.
He was hilarious at the end of Rambo 2. Rambo put his character in his place with his machine gun.
Smashing Johnny’s second place trophy in the parking lot was was Kreese at his most savage.
But Kreese fixed the trophy. ... Stop giving the guy such a hard time.
Jaden Smith does not exist in this dojo does he!?!? NO SENSEI!
He doesn't need to
Julie (Hillary Swank) exists. Ali also exists but does NOT need to come back. The Karate Kid "reboot" never happened.
That's because That movie was INCORRECTLY named. It should have been ' The Kung Fu Kid". They were in China, the main hero Jaden's character was being taught Kung Fu...by a CHINESE guy ( jackie chan...also chinese and a kung fu expert). Who ever wrote that movie and script should be smacked in the face with a shovel as it had absolutely no coherence to karate, japan and was just a rip off from Karate Kid movies.
@@motoryzen No, the Chinese title was incorrectly named. The official title is still "The Karate Kid." Lol saying that "Kungfu Kid" was the correct title is like saying the Karate Kid tetralogy is "Best Kid"--what the series is called in Japan.
Jaden who?
Everyone from Karate Kid aged so well.
Except for Daniels mom ...that's one hag
Yes they did!
It's funny how they all look so good, it's like the last 30 years barely happened.
@@DiegoMartinezCoria Actually Ron Thomas (who played Bobby Brown, the nice Cobra Kai student) hasn't really aged so well.
Raven aaaaaand compared to the home alone cast...
1:13 I hope they address the fact that Miyagi saved Johnny in that moment.
I love how he ties in Vietnam with Iraq and Afganistan. This character is perfect to delve into the suffering of our soldiers if written and acted correctly.
This guy is a real stand up guy. I appreciate him a lot and can't wait till season 2. Cobra Kai!!
All the best villains are played by all the best people in real life. Martin Kove is such a class act. Sounds like Kreese might not be quite the super villain he's made out to be once you get to know his back story and see what he's been through. I love that kind of thing because people are usually both good and evil not just one or the other and there is the constant struggle to do what you think is right and how that can often have conflicting versions between people of different moral alignments. Pretty excited about season 2!!! Wish it was released already!!
@Daniel Mullen Kreese was reacting out of anger and frustration in the moment and lashed out at his top student. In the Karate Kid 3 Kreese had plenty of time to think about his actions while enjoying some rest and relaxation in Tahiti and he still chose to go the revenge route on Daniel and Miyagi. That was more evil.
I'm glad that they're giving Sensei Kreese a more fleshed out back story. While I like villains like Frieza who have a flat character arc, I also like closure and the possibility that Kreese has a legitimate reason for why he is the way he is.
Kove is an awesome guy. Met him in person. Which makes it more amazing of how well he plays a bad guy.
Season 3: The return of Terry Silver and Mike Barnes.
I don't think Terry will be back. He was turned into a vampire in the late 90's...
Javelin3o4 i am really hoping Mike Barnes returns in season 2... Karate’s Bad Boy!
Bryce Tharp.... 😂😂😂😂. “Move ‘em yourself...... Mr moto!!”
@@brycetharp4057 One of the actors who played them, Larry Drake, is no longer living. That wouldn't work.
@@thelemonddropskid5445 That damned James Woods killed him!!
My god, he just did the impossible... In only a few minutes of talking, he managed to make Kreese a sympathetic character. Unreal!
Cobra Kai!! Never dies!
The 80/90s were the best period for bad guys. Kresse was one of the best
Yes!
Martin Kove is the coolest!
Sensei Martin Kove rules!
@@tavellclinton9256 I agree. Shame he didn't have a more prominent career.
Really cool!So excited season 2!!
Choking people out in a parking lot is called tough love!
It's what General Zod would do!
Really? I though it was called being a sore loser.
He also broke his trophy!
Is that tough love too?
This is such a treat !! I can't wait for season 2 !!!!
He hasn’t aged at all!
Yea, he looks almost as he did in the Karate Kid movie. Johnny thought Kreese was long gone, so to see Kreese walk through those doors and look like he did all those years ago must have been chilling.
He's 76 ffs. What did you expect?
He's lost some height and his voice sounds like that of an older man(obviously) compared to '84 but he definitely aged well.
@@AK-wc9rl Kove is 73 in real life. In the KK franchise, Kreese is 78.
By saying they don’t mention Terry Silver in Season 2, and how quickly he moves away from the topic, Terry is likely appearing in some form, likely flashbacks
Martin Kove should have won an Academy Award for playing John Kreese (or at least get a nomination).
@@tavellclinton9256 Martin Kove is such a great actor. I agree.
A young Terry Silver being saved by a young John Kreese, during the Vietnam War. I can see it happening.
@@tavellclinton9256 Matrin Kove truly is one of the most under-utilized human resources in all of Hollywood. He is an excellent actor.
I would love to see the backstory of kreese and terry silver in vietnam
That would have been very interesting. The problem is that Thomas Ian Griffith quit acting in 2007 and it is very unlikely that he would come back.
@@tavellclinton9256 - True, but they really don't need Thomas Ian Grittith for a back story. They just need to find a younger similar looking version of him, which I would be totally cool with.
I think you will see it. I'm pretty sure that was just a huge spoiler right there, the story about the vietnamese kid.
No .... no silver .... nothing from K3
I believe they will address it. Rumors have it, it will explain his "show no mercy" with the enemy. Like the video says "Never lose again" basically a traumatic experience in Nam where his men get wiped out for following orders and showing mercy which has haunted Kreese ever since.
love martin kove, thrilled hes back for this season. If you wanna catch him in an awesome action flik while waiting for season 2, watch Steele Justice
Every time Martin Kove gets interviewed he praises the writers
Very powerful and gritty 1st season..Bring on 2 and 3
This guy is a legend, such an awesome villian, couldn't imagine anyone else playing his part!
The Foundation of Youth was apparently one of the bonuses paid out to all the cast of Karate Kid.
With the exception of Pat Morita - who instead was granted Cinematic Immortality 🎭✨👍💜
This takes me back to my childhood. Looking forward to season 2.
Love the backstory in Cobra Kai Season 2. You see layers of Kreese's character (Johnny's, too). Kove plays him so well.
omg, this was just such a treat. Imagine having one of your most influential childhood idols on tap. I don't even have the words....
Kove seems to really cared about his character...when they all laughed at 1:03 he was a little upset because he felt the need to defend Kreese's action's.
I love this actor - fondly remember watching him in Cagney and Lacey as Isbecki back in the 80s as well when I was a kid! So talented!
Interesting. I never heard Martin Kove speak outside of his various on-screen roles. He is quite different from the typecast image in the movies. He is measured, well spoken, intelligent and seems to have a clever sense of humour.
Martian Kove so GLAD you are back as KREESE!!!!!!!!!!!! Cobra Kai!!!!!!!!!!! season 2 I cannot wait!!!!!!!
This provides SOOOO much insight into Kreese's backstory, wow!!
Yeah but it really doesn't explain why he's such an asshole to Daniel and everybody else?
"Without spoiling anything you can you just spoil everything?"
Welcome back mr kove!!!!
Kobra Kai is such a bad ass show.
I love his character you from loving him to hating him to understanding him great character
Kreese and Tony Soprano look totally badass smoking cigars
awesome to see him back in action, I remember back in the 90's in Phoenix there was this local sort of health and addiction guru who would plug commercials on daytime TV and one of the people doing testimonial for how he got off drugs and alcohol was Martin Kove.
Legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember being very impressed by Martin after Karate Kid. I've seen most of the movies he was in afterward.
Seeing him in commercials and all now years / decades later as the same dude, it makes me smile .
im so excited for season 2
So happy for Martin kove and billy zabka honestly bc they seem like such great guys it must be so exciting to have this huge popularity bigger than the 80s really
I use to be so afraid of Kresse, as a kid. I never once listened to an interview until he joined the cast of Cobra Kai Season Two. He’s so compassionate and his stories are fantastic! He’s easy to smile too. Just once again goes it show you, it takes a compassionate, kind hearted soul of an actor to play such a mean character so convincingly!
We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak.
John Kreese is so strong that he would defeat a polar bear in combat.
@@tavellclinton9256 With one arm tied behind his back.
@@neilhutchinson4545 Yes.
Here, on the streets, in competition; when a man confronts you, he is the enemy.
In the karate kid movie kreese didn't play that big of a role so all we saw was this villain no mercy guy. Cant wait to hear n see his story in cobra kai its gonna be awesome!
"what is the problem mr Lawrence!" lol
4:57 thats a great story to tell , great actor Martin Kove
Awesome
Martin is awesome. I'm a big fan of this guy.
i met marin kove at a event in pittsburgh real cool dude
Your flag confuses me.
Kreese is probably Johnny's biological father... I believe this theory!
He is a nice guy
I love watching Cobra Kai
i remember him with hulk hogan shannon tweed shadow warrior lol
1:18 Anybody notice the Back to the Future poster thinking it could be an omen? Maybe Claudia Wells taking over the role as Ali in lieu of Elisabeth Shue, perhaps...
KREESE KREESE KREESE!!! The main reason I cant wait for season 2!!!
Terryyyyyyyyyy Silvaaaahhh!
Sensei Kresse is the best sensei ever. He taught real life lessons. You don't trust your enemy! That doesn't even make sense. Moreover, in the real world, mercy will get you killed. Ask any cop how much mercy they would have with anybody pointing a gun at them. Do you think they will "mercifully" start evaluating the situation and compassionately shoot at the person's legs or arms? No! That person is a threat and has to be put down before he puts you down for good. No mercy = staying alive!
6 more hours until season 2 folks can't wait :)
0:28 This is great news that the writers are going to delve into what makes John Kreese tick and not just have him be a one-dimensional bad guy. Also very interesting that one of the main things that drives him is his love for Johnny Lawrence.
Which is just bizarre at this point because Johnny is over 50 and has his own son.
"Sweep the leg, you got a problem with that Mr. Lawrence..." I like the "back story"...it becomes the real story. It's gonna be big with Martin Kove, I like the seriousness his character brings.
I wonder what they are planning for Elizabeth Shue ? They must have something big for her.
A threesome with Johnny and Tory.....Tory eating out Ali's asshole is the climax
Yeah Mr. Kreese!!!
John Kreese would easily crush human skull with his bare hands.
In the thumbnail I thought the guy on the left was chad smith and the guy on the right was Will Ferrell
I wonder if Vietnam War turned John Kreese and Terry Silver evil.
This guy is like darth Vader and thanos
"I dont want him beaten"
I think it is tough to do Sequel because they are stuck with the events of the Previous Movie, Show, Book, etc. I'm sure Martin Kove would have like the Kreese charater not to have been such a Schmuck- trying to strangle Johnny. But we will see how the Writers deal with this in Season 2.
not sure which I'm more excited for Cobra Kai Season 2 or Avengers Endgame
Kobra Kai!! How can one movie make you more excited for a 10 episode season? Plus.. the writers already said that at the end of season 2, it’s open for a season 3.
This man can play Martin Kove dr doom holy shit
His sensei Kreese reminds me of Count Dante
Kreese and Johnny have a Bull Meecham and Ben relationship. He wants the best for his son, but just doesn't know how to do it. His methods are brutal, but his intentions are good. Read 'The Great Santini' by Pat Conroy. That's essentially the Johnny/Kreese relationship.
Kreese is the abusive alcoholic father. It doesnt matter what his intentions are, if his actions are that of psychopath.
@@itubeutubewealltube1 Life isn't an all or nothing proposition. There's some bad in the best of us, and there's some good in the worst of us. Life isn't linear, it's multi dimensional.
He sounds so different in person
Is sanso going to comr back miyagi brother?
I really hope we see what Martin Kove is talking about in season three. In season two Kreese is still portrayed as a bully. People think he schemed against Johnny to take the dojo away. That he never cared about Johnny. In season three it's time we learn about the real John Kreese. Why he is the way he is. Plus, I hope they show the effect the war has on him now. I really think John Kresse suffers from PTSD and it will only get worse. I doubt Kreese ever sought treatment for his mental health issues. I really do think by the end of season three something will Happen to Kreese that will make people feel bad for him.
He was too busy training Navy Seal guys to worry about therapy
In the second movie when Kreese is choking Johnny, I always wondered where is this kid's parents?
His mother was being a gold digger. All she cared about was money and his stepfather treated him like shit so he could care less.
This is my second favorite tv show After TWD.
The Walking * falls asleep at the boring story line and piss poor action*. " Oh..sorry..ah...What were we talking about again? lol
@@motoryzen the walkin...you know, that thing that happens to your interest if you try and watch an episode
In the trailer. Did Johnny throw a punch at Krease and yell at him for manipulating his students?
Why do I get a bad feeling something bad is going to happen to John Kreese by the end of the season? No matter how much of a brave face he puts on, that man has lots of demons. People with demons do desperate things. Kreese is a combat veteran and they have PTSD. Why do I think watching Kreese's character will break my heart? I am more interested in John Kreese's charcter than anyone else.
I've always like to pretend that Kreese and the character in Rambo II was the same person somehow LOL
I wish Daniel and Kreese fought each other at least once or twice.
Or from tour of duty, the tv series.
Looking good at 73
Corba kai fucken epic
It would have been even more epic if it was Mike Barnes, not Johnny Lawrence, who reopened Cobra Kai.
We do not train to be merciful here, mercy is for the weak. Here, on the street, in competition. If a man confronts you, he is the enemy and an enemy deserves no mercy, what is the problem Mr Lawrence?
“Sensei u see that 4 & half foot Asian with a paunch? He kicked the shit out of the 5 of us last night. Your 5 best students. That’s how I got this shiner, why tommy has his arm in a sling & Dutch can no longer have children.” I always tell myself that’s what Johnny whispered to Kreese.
Apparently there's no aging in his dojo either cause he still looks the same.
He aged a lot. Look how shriveled up his hands are. The muscles are wasted like he has advanced nerve damage.
@David duFresne my grandparents are in their mid and late 80s. I'm lucky to still have my grandparents because I'm in my 40s. My 88 year old grandfather has Parkinson's disease unfortunately.
@David duFresne I do cherish the time I have with them. It also reminds me to enjoy life because none of us know how long we have to live. Any of us could go to the doctor and receive bad news about our health. A buddy of mine went to the doctor 2 years ago and was diagnosed with cancer at only 40 years old. He passed away 6 months later.
Best Evil Characters... are played by good people :)
For the Moderators, I wished you let him speak and not interrupt every second! Adrenaline guys! you should listen what he said between the lines, which are very interesting! Well I guess, they were nervous! But very Rude!
All I can say is I hope they don't end up making the Kreese we see in season 2 seem more like the slightly nicer twin brother of the Kreese we saw in the movies. In the films Kreese came off as an unredeemable bad guy who only cared about winning and nothing else. I just hope he really feels like the same person he was in the movies.
@@itubeutubewealltube1 Actually, the term he (and later Terry Silver) used was 'slope', which was no better.
@@synthonaplinth5980 yeah.. you are right.. "go*k" was used in another scene by those drunk guys on the beach.
I just saw the KK 35th and they showed the scene of Danny running into Kreese for the first time in Cobra Kai.. They did not tone Kreese down at all, he is still a racist, big time, and still has no respect for Myagi. It was a really good scene only two minutes.. but holy shit the tension was huge.
@@itubeutubewealltube1 Wasn't it: 'Kindly remove 'em yourself....Mr. Moto?' I may have to watch the scene again...
@@itubeutubewealltube1 I'm sorry, my friend. Those kind of remarks are incredibly hurtful. Kids will pick on each other on just about everything. I'm not even Asian but got it in spades for my social awkwardness.
I wish he was my karate sensei...
Is terry silver gonna come back?
Doubt it. I don't remember the actor's name off-hand but he quit acting a decade ago. I guess you never say never but it's unlikely.
Also not sure how you can just ask movie nerd questions point blank to a man whom all movies+tv have trained us to believe is ready to kill without hesitation.
Good thing there's a big table btw you two!
I wonder if Kreese will change his opinion of Miagi do karate when he finds out Miagi was awarded the CMH?
Terry Silver found that out in Karate Kid 3 i'm sure he told him he even saids at that fight when Kreese is present, when Miyagi shows up to help Daniel he sarcastically addresses Miyagi as the great war hero.
I'll have to watch number 3 again. Can't imagine a former officer, even Kreese being disrespectful to someone awarded the CMH.
@@gallegal1971 Terry breaks into Miyagis house and sees the frame with all of his medals that's how he found out.
And Kreese is basicly certifiable so a CMH is probably not gonna impress him.
Is Terry jakson coming back
Justin Lee Ali Terry Silver Mike Barnes certainly a possibility
how Silver, hes not old enough to be in Nam..
Orison Squirrell silver was basically the same ag as Ralph Macchio
I'm a little disappointed that Kreese in Season 2, while he does get some nuance, in the end is a straight villain and doing blatantly asshole-ish stuff. The funny thing is, the end of season 2 has him telling Johnny that he was "proven right" about mercy being weakness, which is good as a way to show all of the "gray" and "moral confusion" plaguing the characters, but it's undercut by his previous underhanded actions. They could've done it where Johnny's students get disillusioned with his "no mercy vs. no honor" and defect to Kreese, who has just been observing and giving pointers all along, without Kreese stealing the dojo from Johnny.
Another thing about Cobra Kai, and really media in general, that irks me is the theme of a character expressing a truth, but since he's a jerk we the audience are conditioned to dismiss that truth entirely. We see it over and over with Johnny and Kreese (more so the latter as the show goes on), and even some of the kids.
marty! Last house on the left!
If Kreese is a former US karate champion he needs to take on Apollo Creed former heavy weight champ. Where the real challenge is. People will think you or Cobra Kai is a joke
