    Robotaxis are here now. We just took a 1 mile drive in a Waymo this morning in San Francisco. The drive was flawless, the only problem was the pickup on both ends of the trip. After 15 minutes of trying to find the taxi on the return trip we finally gave up. Had to walk through the area south of Market St, which was like a horror movie. So this problem of pickup should be easy to solve, but it would take government cooperation.

    Waymo is #1 Robotaxi! Has three cities already operating in the U.S. Tesla is still in development in the R&D. Finally, Tesla will be using lidar sensors! FSD experts say Tesla is 5-10 years behind Waymo!😮

    I'm not sure what level of skepticism I should have for Tesla Robotaxis. I'll believe it when I see it. If we count critical disengagements for FSD, as accidents, because they could be without a safety driver. That's 1 accident every 448 miles. The average human get's in an accident every 256,000 miles. So Tesla is potentially, 571 times more dangerous than a human, counting disengagements as potential accidents. And that's not even comparing it to a skilled taxi driver.

    Sorry - these stats are wrong. Check insurance companies stats and you will see that Tesla are the cars most prone to accidents. That is likely because an EV accelerates differently than a gas car.

      It's not the sales that matter, re profits, it's the huge revenue potential for trillions of miles of rides with NO driver needed. The companies that can dominate that space over time will make a LOT of money, IF they can do it cost efficiently compared to the competition.
      Whether it's in two or ten years doesn't change the long term picture.
      Of course, short term speculators want it to happen right away.
      It's a joke how Cathie Wood claims to be a great investor, but ACTS like a newb speculator re her frenetic and random trading, and her short term claims (repeatedly proven wrong) of a SPECULATIVE nature.
      Disclosure: I'm a long term TSLA investor, and pick up a little BYD on big dips.

    FSD will only be a thing when Teslas can self drive anywhere a human driver can. This will not happen anytime soon. Also, the battery tech isn't where it needs to be. EVs are really not built for the parts of the U.S. that have snowy winters. Or dense urban cities. And the mass adoption of EVs will cripple the power grid.

    • @DigSamurai
      @DigSamurai Před měsícem

      Like so many, you underestimate the exponential growth of AI technology. FSD might take 5 years or maybe a few more but it's likely to take less. What is certain is that it will happen sooner rather than later.

    • @kencarpenter1363
      @kencarpenter1363 Před měsícem

      @@DigSamurai Actually, I'm really hoping for both FSD and EVs to become both real and practical. When will that happen? Who knows. The thing that really grinds my gears is all the over the top hype. And no one has offered a solution for the problem of how to keep your EV charged when you live in apartments or high rises. Or the fact that EV batteries just don't perform satisfactorily in cold weather. And can it be considered FSD if it only works on most roads or most conditions? The battery tech just isn't there yet, or the infrastructure to support a massive switch to EVs. EVs, for the most part, aren't ready for prime time, much less FSD. And yes, I own an EV, a 2020 Kona. I love it, but I fit the use case where an EV is practical. I live in California, I have a home where I can charge from a standard 120volt, 15 amp circuit, I'm retired and drive about 300 miles per month. But that's not the case for a large number of people. In my opinion, both EVs and FSD are still impractical and will be for the foreseeable future.

    Tesla never be able to achieve fully autonomous robotaxi without lidar system. I do not think it is closer.

      Three comments,
      How expensive is it to add this sophisticated hardware instead of using software development to achieve a similar requirement?
      Lidar must add a significant demand on the available battery power.
      Having another parameter can add conflict in accessing the complicated environment of the road and environment.
      To scale up a product that sends back useful development information while still generating a profit requires simplicity of essence. Which is the challenge.

    • @DigSamurai
      @DigSamurai Před měsícem

      You couldn't be more wrong. Ai-based FSD will run circles around any LiDAR or Radar based system because those are based on preset rules.
      If you don't think AI will be as smart as humans at some point then you've been living in a cave. And when it's as smart as humans you don't think it will be able to drive?

    • @bpolat
      @bpolat Před měsícem

      @@DigSamurai Google is the inventor of transformer models where cutting edge is AI become possibility, their company Waymo uses lidar for full self driving. Why you think only Tesla uses AI for self-driving? Tesla is far behind from Waymo. Lidar adds extra security that you need. Self driving car must be %99.99 reliable not less. Tesla will never archive that level of security with only cameras.

    • @DigSamurai
      @DigSamurai Před měsícem

      @@bpolat You clearly don't understand how the two different companies are approaching FSD. The fact you think waymo is ahead of Tesla proves my point.
      Tesla has vastly more data to train its FSD because they have millions of cars on the road learning. That is an immense advantage that no other car company has.
      Tesla emphasizes real-time processing of visual data, while Waymo combines multiple sensing technologies to create a comprehensive environmental map.
      In other words waymo has to update their environmental map every time the scenery changes, which is constantly. Tesla's AI will eventually get smarter than a human driver because it will have the sum of the knowledge of all Tesla's on the road.
      The contest isn't even close and the fact you think otherwise just demonstrates your complete ignorance.

      Your ignorance of the facts is breathtaking. Chinese companies have nowhere near the innovation of Tesla, they are merely heavily subsidized by the Chinese government. And none of them are even remotely close to Tesla regarding FSD. And that's where the real money is.
      Besides, Legacy car makers in the US are in far More danger of going bankrupt than Tesla and the US government won't let that happen. They've already imposed huge tariffs and they're only going to go up.
