Fights were okay but this was the storyline of the night... got me right in the feelers.

72 penalty minutes in 4 minutes to start the game, that game was wild. NHL brought it upon themselves for this one.

Smith is the man. I loved him on the Red Wings, the guy is all heart. Stood up against Chara before. I think he couldn't care less of what's gonna happen.

Anyone that knows and loves the game loves what happened last night. Anyone that says get it out never played at a high level, the “staged fight” days are over but they’ll never get rid of pure anger adrenaline fights or in this case “retribution”...

I think hockey needs the fights but if you have this type of fight happens every month or so its going to turn people away. It's great every few years.
I agree but keep in mind the last time this happened was ottawa senators playing the Flyers and it was insane. Probably 20 years ago, this doesn’t happen often!
I loved it then being from and living in ottawa.
Remember the Ottawa-Philly game well. Havlat was involved in the inciting event in Ottawa - prior to the brawl in Philly.
Another memorable game where fireworks erupted was game #2 of Ottawa vs. NYR in 2012. Ottawa was irate that Bryan Boyle jumped Erik Karlsson unprovoked in the 3rd period of game #1 - a game that was already being won handily by NYR. Consequently, in game #2 Carkner jumped Boyle seconds after the opening faceoff. Chris Neil also made a huge impact on that game, scoring the OT winner.
I agree completely... I mean, even Wayne Gretzky wouldn't have had nearly as much success if he didn't have Marty mcsorley ready to kill anybody who touched him. That's part of why McSorley was part of the Gretzky trade to the king's.

chara onlys benefit is that he has 6" on almost every other NHL player and boogaard died. Otherwise chara is a sasquatch on skates with terrible balance and dwindling slap shot.

Everybody in the hockey world knew this was coming. I don’t think ALL the purest thought it was bad for hockey. One of the great things about hockey is policing each other and having the ability to stick up for your teammates by throwing haymakers. The NHL failed by not suspending Tom Wilson. The message to the Rangers was handle it yourself. That’s exactly what they did.
I would say, instead, that the Rangers got handled. I'll give 'em an 'A' for effort though.

Those were definitely not hockey purest who bitched about it not being hockey. True purest love the fighting and policing each other. I was excited to see what would happen. If it didn’t happen the Rangers would have been pussies in my eyes
Exactly, I have no problem with fighting for retribution but Wilson is a 'Todd Bertuzzi' waiting to happen. The way he punched Buchnevich was a terrible look.

No. As a big hockey fan I really do not like the fight anymore I just think it's outdated and stupid. You can't fight in the NFL so why should you fight in the NHL. I prefer a fast pace game without the fights but physicality is OK.

This is great for hockey people saying otherwise started watching after the lockout
I’ll say the beginning fight was good for hockey. But 6 fights was excessive. I stopped watching after the lockout because the fights seemed scripted. Something like this amazing up until it got excessive.
This was great for hockey and the ratings, it was a huge L for “player safety” though. Not the fighting on Wednesday, but the lack of response from Monday. If that is where the league is headed, fine, but we might as well be honest about it and get rid of the DOPS and gear up for teams bringing in the goons again.
I tuned in last night for the first time in 4 years just to watch the fights.

I’m from Michigan and we call it both a dressing room and a locker room, but I’m not sure if that’s just because it was taken from the Canadian influence or not.
Trevor Larson Parts of Michigan are basically Canada. I mean Windsor and Detroit are right across the river from each other lol. There’s bound to be some cross over.

Im always amazed on what a career Chara had I remember him the first 3 or so years in his career the dude could legit not skate I mean he barely had the basics down and to see him last as long as he did is freaking amazing he made the most out of his God given size.

I had no idea what was going on in Hockey... but I immediately went and watched the brawl with wilson slamming people and then watched the 6 fights in the first period of the following game. Amazing! I love it. THIS IS HOCKEY!

As a Canadian and a hockey for 30 years I can say fighting is definitely a big part of the game and if you go to a live game there isn't a louder time than when a fight breaks out and that's a fact
I was only six foot one about a hundred and 95 lb when I played in JR's so it was nice to have teammates that could fight

I have watched hockey my whole life. This will out eyes on the sport and is good for it. Teams used to have enforcers for stuff like this. The NHL changed the rules 20+ years ago by lowering the roster by 1 player and adding an instigator rule. That helped stopped a lot of the fighting.
Also Oshie got a hat-trick in the first game after his dad passed and it was super amazing and emotional. Game of the Year!
