- Here's something I recorded the other day for Instagram ( campusfive ) but people seemed to dig it, so I figured I'd reshare it here. I original worked up a chord melody arrangement of this tune back in lockdown, but had been recently revisiting and relearning it. After an simple intro tagging the last 4 bars of melody, there's a melody chorus in "C", which allows the use of some open strings. After the melody chorus, I take an improvised chord solo inspired by my transcriptions of the playing of Allan Reuss and George Van Eps.
If you're interested in learning this, I've made the transcription available in the Soundslice Store here: www.soundslice...
It's a great place to start if you want to explore the style of Swing-Era chord melody playing and chord soloing.
Just bought the transcription. Thanks for everything.
One of the greatest living guitarist
Always, too kind!
@@campusfive I have learnt your technique and I follow you to get inspiration. My other Channel has some videos based on your technique. Now I am solely into classical in this channel.
No hes not syncopating this could be better. Synocopation is king.
inspiring! i’m working on an arrangement of this myself (:
I dig it, thanks man.............cheers!
Cheers!
Beautiful. I'm tempted to follow your suggestion and tackle the transcription as an entry to chord melody.
👏
Would you consider making your transcription and arrangement available of “Over the Rainbow” from the “Pick it and Play it” album???❤
I'll see what I can do.
Sounds great! I really dig your playing on a flat top!
I just saw that you are offering your transcriptions on Soundslice. Very cool! I will be heading over there.
Thanks so much. I hope to add some transcriptions over there as well soon.
@@campusfive Awesome! I look forward to this!
Gorgeous.
Thanks Steven!
The main question sir… is … what guitar are you playing
😄🤝🤩
Waterloo
Thought on the Waterloo guitar
They're great, and especially at the price point they originally came out at... they were a steal. I'm lucky I got mine just barely used, so it was even cheaper and basically brand new. The WL14-LTR... i.e. 14 frets to the body, ladder braced with a trust rod... has the biggest projection of the line. I found this out visiting the booth at the NAMM show, and the ladder brace had noticeably more volume and projection, even in the din of the NAMM show floor. I also love the "Stella" style, but I don't have one.
Absolutely wonderful, Jonathan. I always thoroughly enjoy your playing. I'm sure you've been asked this before, but can you recommend a CD that could serve as a good introduction to the playing of Allan Reuss please? I've seen some collections of Benny Carter, amongst others, but I'd really like to home in on Allan's guitar playing. Many thanks if you have time to read this, or if anyone else reading this can steer me in the right direction?
Best wishes to all.
There just isn't one CD that fits the bit. It's part of why he remains so obscure is that you really have to work to collect all of the tunes he took solos on.
Hi there, and thank you kindly for the reply. I'm just grasping that fact, it'll be an intriguing, challenging project, to track down his work. Great stuff.
I enjoyed your playing and arrangement very much though I must say the audio wasn't up to your usual high standards.
I think he's produced more than enough high-end stuff that we can give him a little leeway to post a smart phone video now and then 😆
@@LandonEaversMusic I didn't write the comment to be rude, Jonathan seemed to be up for some constructive criticism, and having watched thousands of posts on CZcams I've become a stickler for well-recorded audio. Perhaps that was the reason the number wasn't well received earlier. Of course, his playing is always spot-on.
@@janjablonsky I'm just laughing because I have no idea why would you would think I've ever used anything BESIDES a smartphone to record any of my stuff. The auxiliary mic (a shure MV88) I sometimes use with my iphone must've lost connection when I was recording this, and so it's just the internal iphone mic. So, the weird volume ramp up at the beginning is the iphone's autogain trying to calibrate... but I've done tens of videos without the auxilary mic, and just using the internal mic, and so other than the unintentional "fade in", I don't think there's anything particularly lacking in, at least as compared to all of my other videos.
And I'm not sire what you're referring to when you say "the number wasn't well received earlier". I was just practicing a piece I hadn't played in quite a while, and decided to grab a quick vid. It was plenty well received when I was playing on porch sessions during the pandemic. Anyway, enjoy the free content.
