    I just had the spark plugs replaced on my 2006 Toyota Corolla which now has 410,000 miles on it. I was getting really bad gas mileage which only became apparent when I took a long trip. Normally on a full tank of gas I could get 420 miles. I noticed, though, that it had dropped to about 330 miles. Replacing the spark plugs helped that a lot. But I was still getting lower gas mileage than normal. I then replaced the air filter as well, and now I’m back up to 420 miles on a full tank of gas at freeway speeds. Best cars ever!

      I've been doing a lot of little work on this car. fix front bumper, found passenger side view mirror at junk yard and installed. works. Tune up went well and it is running very nice. Detailed the engine bay. Ball joint next, new tires and alignment. Thank you for asking and happy new year.

    I like using graphite spray instead of copper or nickel anti size. It works just as good and it won't hurt anything if it gets into the cylinder.

      Thanks for the input, this is not a bad idea, make sure you use electronics cleaner if clean the MAF, I usually only do this if I'm experiencing a problem though, I hate to cause issues by messing with sensitive electronic sensors. Here is a link to the electronics cleaner I use for MAF sensors.

    Things definitely changed over time, comparing the '05 Corolla to the '10 Corolla. The spark plugs on my 2010 are 9/16" Iridium plugs, the ones you have look like copper but I can't really tell too well
    Plus the ones you have look much bigger than mine. Obviously

  • @AndysGeneral
    @AndysGeneral Před 4 lety

    Just one thing, I was told to definitely use throttle body cleaner only so you don't mess up anything over time

    • @dannysdiygarage
      @dannysdiygarage  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes, make sure you follow my other video when you do the throttle body service, use the rag to clean it up, also use an old toothbrush to get into the tight spots, do not over spray, take your time and do it right.

    when I personally going to do a tune up , tank before I'll drop 2 bottles of seafoam , run premium and go down 1/4 tank , drop oil /filter out , then ill change my plugs out,,,
    major: ill change transmission fluid & filter,pan gasket (kit) tune up as you did , then ill change front oxygen sensor , all filters...preventive maintenance ,,

      @sirich7751 Před 3 lety +1

      I changed mine in a 2008, same configuration. I used Bosch iridium. Toyotas recommends NGK or Denso but you local auto part store may not have these. Don't forget the little packs of antisieze and dielectric for the coil pack boots

  • @illuz1oN44
    @illuz1oN44 Před 2 lety +1

    I was always taught not to put anti seize or anything on your plugs to avoid getting any of that in the engine

    • @dannysdiygarage
      @dannysdiygarage  Před 2 lety +1

      there is quite a bit of controversy over this subject, anti seize or no anti seize, but this is the 1st time I heard that reason. Pros - when you remove your plugs in the future, they will come out easily and will not seize in the head. Con - there is a slight chance the anti seize will make the plug loosen up over time, also you could over torque these because the anti seize lubricates the threads. I have never had a problem with using a small amount on the plug, this is my recommendation only use a small amount, but you do what you feel you're most comfortable with.

    • @limamantapachitas
      @limamantapachitas Před 6 měsíci

      the anti seize goes on the tread, no on the electrodes

      This was the second job I did on my car at 17 years old. First was an oil change. Honestly spark plugs are easier because you won’t risk getting dirty and you won’t have to Jack up your car. A very easy job to do and you’ll feel great after fixing a problem on your own car.

    U probably dont want to put your finger in that throttle body if it is an electric actuated type. It can take your finger off if accodentally actuated while still attached to the motor. Better to remove the throttle body completely and then clean it.

      What if you just take the battery out instead? Would that cut the power to prevent this from happening or does that only go so far and this is a safer option? Probably a dumb question. But, I just got my first car and no one to show me how to do anything. I’m trying to search up anything I can before I touch anything so, any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    • @PRod7544

      @@str8upnaekydd707 In every maintenance/repair manual step one is always disconnect the battery. Disconnecting the battery completely removes all power to the vehicle. Nothing will work without the battery connected.
