  • The Maserati MC20 is a gorgeous new mid-engine supercar powered by a brand new 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 called Nettuno. As in Neptune, god of the sea, the one who brandishes a trident… see what they did there? It produces 621bhp at 7,300rpm and 538lb ft of torque at 3,000rpm, and your only choice is an eight-speed twin-clutch auto gearbox. The MC20 weighs 1500kg, which is about 50kg more than a McLaren 570S, 0-62mph takes 2.9 seconds, 0-124mph takes 8.8 seconds and top speed is 203mph… about as quick as you could ever want to go. I like what the simplicity says about Maserati. While part of me essentially just wanted a slightly modernized-looking MC12 all over again.
So many cars, particularly sports cars, are getting competitively over the top in their design and oversaturated interiors. I love how Maserati have gone the opposite way with it, deliberately; not out of ease or laziness, but I think as a conscious departure from today's clutter of overselling design. More angles, more hype, more stickers, more carbon fiber until... more... ultimately pointless. I think Maserati have made a car that, looks-wise at least, will age like a fine wine.

They made a 3.0 liter V6 with 621hp, wich is a massive step forward in terms of engine development, this is what the industry is aiming for years now with downsizing in order to achieve better fuel efficiency and lower emitions, and obviously so much power in a tiny casing like this would maybe have consequences in the power delivery (btw, this is why hybrid systems are so interesting to use with these modern power trains this days), and Jack said this feels “last gen”, wich in my opinion was an unfortunate word choice. This engine is probably in the vanguard of tecnology. And as we talk about the interior, why isnt the money there? Because it is in the driving experience. Why is it so hard to understand, why is a McLaren interior just like that and there are no comments like this about it? Its just a case of repositioning the brand in the market, and we are all here saying “build interesting cars” and blá-blá-blá, and this guy is again pushing it to luxury and everything with this comments wich is not its primary purpouse.

"It might not be perfect"? The test started by saying, well the recent SUVs and saloons have been crap, but hey look what they were doing back in the '60'ies. Then it went on to describe how cheap the interior is and how impractical it is, to continue by saying that what is a brand new engine, is in fact one generation behind. Next we have an automatic gearbox which is better when used in manual mode, the steering having a "question mark", "as there is with the brakes" as well. And yet, the test concludes by saying that it rides like a big Alpine, which is the praise the tester can invent to give it.

@@nomayor1 Good point. I take it all the way!
Nevertheless, that car imo won't be a failure. If it doesn't sell as expected, Maserati still has at least 2 options :
      1. Face-lift it (mentioned in the video)
      2. Lower down the price tag (I'm just saying)
So, not perfect, but I don't see a reason to "utterly hate it".
After all it isn't an idiotic hybrid (Ferrari 296GTB) or even worse a freakin EV that is ugly and more expensive than an island in the Caribbean (Rimac Nevera).
      My point?
There are still people who like cars for their Soul and presence. They don't need a million horsepower or the latest NASA technology on-board screens and gizmos.
Maserati did it (almost without issues) and I'm glad to see a car like this still exists. In our era, it's about the survival of the sportscar I'd say. No hybrid crap, no battery nonsense.

My experience:
I have an MC 20 (4000 miles driven) and a last generation (2021)Turbo S (2000 miles driven). I Drive the
MC20 when I want a dramatic experience without effort. Keeping it in Corsa mode, it is the fast crazy horse
at the public horse riding stables. Has fun scaring me, drives hard and fast without my trying to convince it, but
somehow saves itself despite the precariousness fraught pace. Fast into a lane, curve or turn, It likes to first
terrorize with a brief frenetic uncertainty as it plants itself. Then it firmly hunkers down imparting a whimsical
feeling of accomplishment. I believe this car will attain legendary status, when this quality alone is discovered
and celebrated by more drivers. To date (10/05/23), one cannot order a performance oriented coupe version
like mine any more. This anticipated limited production status will not give voice to the car's true credentials
until a decade plus from now. To me, it is a keeper. I drive the Turbo S for commutes and when I feel like
applying more deliberate energy in transforming it into a street apex predator.
