    After switching from X01 to XT 8100 I can confirm shifting is indeed REALLY firm. Took months of getting used to, but now it's ok. Multiple release shifting is great. XT brakes really are superior, these feel even better than my previous XTR 9000 brakes, less play in the levers and better modulation. What I would like to add: shifting under force is incredible, it even seems to shift better when you apply more force; and X01 needs much more adjustments in my experience - always something rattling, not shifting smooth, etc. I keep my bikes reasonably clean, but not perfect: in this case XT seems to work better.

    Cześć!
    You are saying the exact thing my bike mechanic always said. Never saw any of his bikes with anything more than SLX, maybe a XT here and there, that he found to be worthwhile, and was not because he couldn't afford it, was just bad investment for him.
    Now, if you have the money and need of ownership pride, than go for the XTR's and XX1's, the market and producers need you!
    Keep up the great work with this channel.

    Excellent analysis on the comparison of the different drive terrain options, and how they feel in particular. I agree that XT feels a bit harder to shift than X01 (not as smooth). I didn't realize that was done intentionally to give reliability. I agree 100% Shimano brakes are superior to SRAM brakes.

      1. Sometimes the Chain jumps on the smallest gear of the casette.
      2. The derailior need alot of maintenance like cleaning, and spraying wd40 into the derailior pivots and the hose where the cable comes out. If you don't do that every month, it's going to shift like crap.
      3. The internals of my xt shifter broke after 2 months and it wasn't fixable.
      4. The microspline hubs get a little damaged after some time.
      5. On my slx casette there is a inconsistency in the distance between the gears. Between 2 on my gears the distance is a little longer than the others. Because of that it doesn't shift very good between the two.
      6. The casette easily gets super dirty, and it looks rly bad when it does because it's silver.
      Thanks for reading, let me know which one you choose. Have a good day!

    • @QWOP_Expert
      @QWOP_Expert Před 3 lety +4

      Honestly, with those components, I would rather have the SLX derailleur and the XT shifter. The SLX derailleur is a bit heavier but most won't notice the difference, but the ability to shift up multiple gears is a very noticeable difference.

    • @wobllle6526

It is my daily commuter to work, as well as riding it for 4 - 8 miles a couple times a week on a combination of pavement, logging roads, and trails. Some of the trails are too rough on the bike which is set up with fenders and various lights, plus the Maxxis Crossmark
      tires are great for this combination, but I want a bike that will climb and downhill in the muddy Rocky terrain of our Oregon Mountains. No flying or flips or broken bones, but I do want a dropper seat and just climb up and down with a bike that can take it.

      Yet was looking for an xt shifter in my local shops to test how they feel and I could not find ANY bike with them.

    • @TheNotoriousMIC
      @TheNotoriousMIC Před 4 lety

      SimulatedScience the shifter doesn’t make any difference to the shifting. All you get is a nicer paddle or a smoother action which in itself is well worth the money when you consider how often your going to have to use it. SLX shifters are absolutely rancid but they’ll function just as well as an XTR. It’s the the chain and cassette that makes the most difference in performance. It used to be the shifter back in the day but they’re all the same these days.

    • @sebastianjost
      @sebastianjost Před 4 lety +1

      @@TheNotoriousMIC you are forgetting one important difference between slx and XT shifters:
      XT shifters allow two shifts at once in both directions, slx only into easier gears.
      Also an SLX lever has a lighter action which can cause accidental shifts on rough terrain, or at least accidally shifting more gears than you wanted.
      Even if an SLX derailleur has slightly worse shifting quality, I think we can all agree that even a complete SLX drivetrain shifts absolutely great.
      Additional features like instant- and two-way release, which only the XT and XTR shifters offer, makes the much bigger difference.
      On my gravel bike I even have a Claris drivetrain and it shifts absolutely perfectly. A bit slower than the more expensive group sets but the shifting itself is great.

    • @TheNotoriousMIC
      @TheNotoriousMIC Před 4 lety

      SimulatedScience that’s a massive negative in my book. I’d rather the shifter released the gear when you let go of the paddle not when you push it like XT / XTR. It’s a pointless gimmick that doesn’t add anything and just adds a load of resistance to the shifter action and makes it hard to push. Same with shifting twice at once. It never works smoothly. It’s just another pointless gimmick that doesn’t work.

Sounds cheap. Thinking of changing it over for the old XTR 9000 as I have an entire groupset which I've never used. I've actually got 1.5 groupsets. One is 1x11 (34) the other 2x11 (26/36). I'm not fully sold on the whole one by thing. It's not hilly where I live either. LBS thinks I'm mad. One of my other bikes has the old XTR 9000 in a one by set up. shimano shifters work only with shimano derailleurs and sram shifters work only with sram derailleurs. There are some models where they are cross-compatible and you can find people online Nthat use them as such, but its more of a gimmick and just for peace of mind i wouldnt mix those two. Shimano are always two steps behind theses days and they can’t really complete in the OEM market as they only make brakes and gearing. You can go to sram and bulk buy everything and get a good deal on it, where the alternative would be putting two smaller orders in with fox and shimano and maybe even a few others and not getting as good a deal.

      @@TheNotoriousMIC but Shimano components are cheaper than SRAM.
      Just look at cassettes. A GX one costs 140€, a Shimano XT cassette, which is about the same quality, costs about 100€.
      It's about the same difference if you buy a complete drivetrain.
      Also you can still go with RockShox suspension, no need to buy Fox.
