Like Max shares these Sunnen machines work well, they are great in aerospace remembering a Southern California honing company named B.L. Bealer we used in my younger aerospace days and they are still in business, so these machines make people a good honest living, what I remember the most is the honing oil how it is impossible to get that smell out of your cloths and from your skin, it is not a bad smell, it is however a unique to metal part honing, the finishes produced are GREAT so neat to see and you provided a good demonstration as well. Thank you for sharing your great machine and for bring back to us some great memories. Lance & Patrick.
That Sunnen oil smell is big reason my wife prefers me woodworking. The machine can be very profitable in itself or add overall improvement in your operation and products. Thanks Lance & Patrick for that super comment, I would do the videos again just for that!
We had a red 1974 Sunnen in an automotive machine shop used on connecting rods. Both big and small ends. It had a very handy dial bore gage where your on/off switch is. The best part about running that machine was walking away with clean although oily hands. It was also very satisfying to make precision holes with a fairly simple process. I always wondered what those truing sleeves were made of.
Hi, those machine mounted gages go for more than the machine itself sometimes. The sleeves are just steel and not real expensive. I am not sure the oil is the same used in automotive, the regular industrial oil is dark, smells and hard to get off, I use a barrier creme.
Thanks for these honing machine videos. Very well explained 👍. I've recently acquired a Delapina hone machine which I think works in a similar way, the fittings look the same anyway. I had no idea how to use it so these videos have helped a lot.
@@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision yep I just purchased the sunnen cf-1126 fitting fixture and the sunnen Gr-2241 dail bore gauge it’s in .0001 but your right very expensive alittle over 4k for both!
@@cdpperformance2613 Very early on I went with the Standard brand of gages used, but they have only .030" range once set. you have the best gages now. The Sunnen machine will put out accuracy of 50 millionths routinely that some say is not possible.
Thank you for posting these. I’m about to embark on a nice learning curve with a power stroke machine in an aerospace machine shop. Also, cool manometer, what have you used that for?
I have not had the opportunity to use the power stroke machines, you will be doing high precision work it sounds. I used those manometers and the Cleco die grinders on the wall to port and flow Harley Davidson cylinder heads.
Best videos on You Tube on the Sunnen hone thanks Dee Dee
Wow! Thanks I was hoping to show it like I was shown maybe it worked out, my experience is limited to what I work on,
Nice machine .
Hi, thanks!
I leaned to run one in auto shop in the late 70s. this is even better than what I learned back then. Thank you for all three parts.
I had a lot of help from Sunnen over the years, I am glad the videos are OK.
Good series Dee. I’ve never had access to one but always a pleasure to see your thought process.
I think you would have no problems with the hone, like everything else just jump in and make it work.

Yes! The tooling is interchangeable and the machines look different but work the same, thanks i have more to come on this subject!
Would love to learn how to read and use a dail bore gauge also!
Those are a nice addition, just have to decide what brand or style Sunnen is the most expensive
