Aberdeen and Inverness CT fought out the 68th Scottish League Cup final on Sunday, with the Dons coming out on top after a nerve-jangling penalty shoot-out.
A crowd of 51,143 saw the Dons claim their first silverware since winning this competition in 1995/96. Celtic Park was buzzing come kick off as both sets of supporters roared on their heroes.
Derek McInnes' men were without Peter Pawlett after the on form midfielder suffered an injury in training. They experienced a further set back in the first minute when their main attacking threat Jonny Hayes was substituted after he dislocated his shoulder -- a consequence of an awkward fall following an aerial challenge with ICT defender Josh Meekings.
Russell Anderson came agonisingly close to scoring in normal time but the Pittodrie skipper saw his effort hit the post before being cleared off the line by Caley Jags captain Richie Foran.
Both teams failed to make the most of free-kicks in good positions during extra time, and penalties were required to settle the outcome.
Billy McKay was first to take and his effort was saved by Jamie Langfield and Greg Tansey fired over the bar after Barry Robson had scored for Aberdeen.
Nicky Low, Nick Ross, Scott Vernon and Aaron Doran all scored, leaving Adam Rooney to convert the decisive kick and spark wild Aberdeen celebrations.

The greatest football day of my life! I will remember this till the day I die! Still brings a tear to my eye, LOVE YOU ABERDEEN FC
still got the chills just watching it one of the best days of my life COYR
imagine having bin aroon fur the glory days ! it wis MAGNIFICENT
@@garymorrison4675 my dad watched it all
Brilliant match. Still can't believe we got over 40000 Don's fans into Celtic Park. If they arranged the CT fans better we could've got 50000.
Being born in 1989 I missed the glory years and even the early 90's when we were second to Rangers 3-4 times in league and a few runners up in cup finals to them, I got taken to Pittodrie by my Old man when i was 4 i can just remember it ever so slightly, but i had to go through the torid years of 1998 onto 2002/03 we were utter awful but i still went every week with my litttle brother in merkland stand then we moved up into RDS abit better under calderwood but still nothing great, so many semi final upset's or Celtic giving us 4 and 5s at Hampden!! To say this is my greatest day in my life and will always be until i have children myself some day is an Understatement, SO PROUD To Be A Red!!!
The Glory days were BRILLIANT !

lol and yous haven’t won a trophy since and celtic has hit yous for even more than 5 in the last 7 years since u commented 🤣🤣
@@maxgilmour4322 Correct we haven't won a trophy since 2014 but then again Celtic won every trophy on offer from 2016-2020, I'd love you to tell me exactly when Celtic have put 5 or more past us in the 7 years since I wrote the original comment, I'll be waiting patiently as they haven't put more than 4 past us 🙄
wow, the atmosphere, the sound is amazing. well done Aberdeen for the win, from a Tim
I guess Im asking randomly but does anyone know a method to get back into an instagram account?
I somehow lost my login password. I would love any assistance you can give me

@Jameson Travis Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Jameson Travis it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out :D
@Jericho Carl Happy to help :D
i was here as a Celtic fan (thinking they'd get to the cup final) but being there as a neutral was one of the best 0-0 ive ever been to. Also i'll never get used to Derek McInness without his beard ever again.
Well done aberdeen. It's a case of build it and they will come....keep it up, its great for scottish football :) from a celtic fan
One game. One game.
It’s amazing how Jack has won more at Aberdeen then he has at rangers and they just seem to get knocked out before Aberdeen or by Aberdeen
Great day for us! But also respect all the Caley fans that stayed back and watched us lift the cup👍🏽
We are the Juventus of Scotland. Fans from all parts of the country.
The joy is amazing
never gets old!
I remember the last trophy we won in 1995 and been waiting year on year for these kind of days again, a day ill never forget :)
Still remember this like it was yesterday, magical afternoon, let's go for the league now❤️ COYR
+Cameron Longmuir me too
Well done to Aberdeen!
Glad I was there, fantastic atmosphere, shame about the result though!
Aberdeen and caley show the "greatest fans in the world" how too fill their own stadium.
Trully surreal. Magical day i was only 10 years old but ill never forget that. I am going to take this to the grave as one of my happiest memories.
I love this vid
Ohhhh Derek Mcinnes!
The 18 year silverware drought comes to an end for ABERDEEN!
That was the easiest penalty shoot out Aberdeen will ever contest.
The Inverness keeper dived to his right with every kick, all the Aberdeen penalty takers had to do was put the ball left, which they did and hard.
Haha, Derek Mcinnes shaved
COYR!🔴⚪
Have to admit, aberdeen deserved this. Theyll win the league in the foreseeable future
🤣🤣🤣
Remember watching this

I remember watching their game when I was 11 and me and my dad screamed the house down after the dons won

We are the best
Whole of Aberdeen at Parkhead
Aberdeen!! El 3° club grande de Escocia!!
2nd most decorated existing club.
@@weg5856 Whit?
@@Jamie-kv9eg We have the second most trophies in our league.
Amazing as a dons fan but certainly not a classic of a game!
hope the dons win the scottish cup as well
ha
Too late St Johnstone have won the Scottish Cup by beating Dundee Utd 2-0
Can someone tell me how Aberdeen fans got 2 side stands and 1 goal stand and Inverness got 1 goal stand? And thanks in advance
Just because aberdeen are a bigger club. Inverness didn't even sell out there 10k allocation so there was no need to give them more.
Sorry *their
Scott Maclachlan because Inverness can't even sell 10k
Because we don't even need 10k seats, the population of Inverness is only 4 times what we were allocated, and not all of Inverness are football fans. Compared to Aberdeen, which is over 200k people living there, a majority support the sheep shaggers. Guess it's down to the population of the city or something along those lines. Bigger clubs in bigger cities get bigger allocations. For example, there is no use handing 10k seats to gypsy county, cos the population is roughly half that.

Look at the Dons getting all big headed again thinking they're famous just because they've won the wee cup, amusing stuff. 1 good season and they're world beaters again.
Who said anything about world beaters again? (although we once were, and thanks for your acknowledgement of that ;) Come on man, give us a break, we have waited so long to win a cup and we are just all so very happy about it, we aint getting cocky, we are just enjoying the moment, you can't grudge us that can you?
Lee Robertson You were a good side in the 80's yes but that was obviously down to the absolute genius of a manager you had. You haven't really had sustained success after or before that but I get the feeling you are getting ahead of yourselves, just from what I've read elsewhere (forums etc) but maybe I'm being too harsh in tarring every Aberdeen fan with the same brush.
Yeah we had a great manager, McInnes can only wish he does half as well. Most Aberdeen fans know we will never be as good as we were back in the day unfortunately, but you do get the odd numpty that gets carried away lol. Nah, I for one knows the glory days of the 80's will never come back, maybe thats why I celebrated as I did when we won the league cup lol, we never know when we will win another :) but it has been a really good season for us so far, if we win the double then it would be a dream come true because that will NOT happen a lot as we are way off Celtic standards just now, we may never be as good as Celtic through out the course of a year again but just now I am going to enjoy it, I am very proud of my team this season, I'm sure no one is seriously getting ahead of ourselves though, that would be daft, but in the mean time we are very very happy :)
Lee Robertson Good to read some grounded views for a change :) You have every right to be proud of your club this season as you have had a good one tbf.
Gee Simpson A 19 year trophy drought was the reason for the ecstatic celebrations here. We are not kidding ourselves, one swallow does not make a summer. This was a fantastic result for us. But whilst we expected to go on to win the Scottish Cup too, I was proud of the large number of Dons fans who commented online in the wake of the SemiFinal defeat to St Johnstone by stating that St-J actually deserved the win, and we wished them well in the final.
We should've sewn up 2nd place in the league a long time ago, but we are still some way off being serious contenders for a consistent top-two place in the league. We will build on what McInnes has done this season, and hopefully can push on to something even better next season.
Some of the free kicks were utter pash though.
the whole game was pish but its the result that matters
Don't really see how this is a classic tbh
what a shite game it was though
Ha Ha Diddy cup! Who won the real one?
Iain Guild We did actually.
Absolute fannys
Look at the Dons getting all big headed again thinking they're famous just because they've won the wee cup, amusing stuff. 1 good season and they're world beaters again.
1 good season?? We're 1 point off the top of the league and breathing down Celtics neck. This is just the beginning of great things for Aberdeen.
+Thousand Sounds The arrogance from you lot is through the roof just now, it's hilarious. Celtic will still win the league with their eyes closed, they have a game in hand still so most likely 4 points ahead.
+Macca Mcintosh I'm not a Celtic fan...
I nevr said you were
+Macca Mcintosh Yeah you did, you called me a tim.
