- In this video, I walk you through how to set up and solve a logistics problem in Microsoft Excel using the Solver Add-In. The goal is to utilize the firm's shipping lanes in a manner that minimizes shipping costs while meeting warehouse demand. However, the shipping arcs in this problem carry capacity constraints. Some product ships direct and some product passes through a distribution center. It will be our job to meet those constraints at the lowest possible cost.

This problem comes from the book "Introduction to Management Science 3/e" by Hiller and Hiller.
You have taught me more in 40 minutes(2 videos) than I have learned all year in my graduate level operations and analytics course. I tip my cap to you good sir.
To those struggling to find the exact question / problem from the actual book, this is for you..
Introduction to Management Science: A Modelling & Case Studies Approach with Spreadsheets by Frederick S. Hillier, Mark S. Hillier, Karl Schmedders & Molly Stephens. (Third Edition). Page No.: 187.
Thank you, Brandon for simplifying the solution! :)
Hi Brandon,
The link to the excel doesn't work anymore.

Dear Brandon, Its so generous of you to offer the spreadsheet to follow along with. I need something that tracks an apprentices' activities and what he/she has done within dates and time frame. Can you please help. Pete (I'll keep looking and I am so glad i found you - Cheers)

The link is no longer available :(
hi, what if I have additional information on the operating cost of the warehouse? what should i do with that information? add it to the total cost?
Hi Brandon you have really done great. This is so educating, can you please explain why you structured your table that way. Also please can you give me the links to your transportation problem solutions. Thank you, I am trying to build a career in logistics and supply chain management
See, This is the difference between rock and marble college campi and self-learning CZcams University with independent professors: the fact that we voluntarily come here to learn what we couldn’t via an establishment says much about the correlation between democracy and efficacy in learning.
Saying F1 and F2 can pump out and supply an infinite number of units on their route I’m a little unclear about. Isn’t their a storage limit of these warehouses with respect to square and cubic feet?
Also I am wondering if all the cargo is consumable like carrots and frozen food or are these warehouses storing things like airplane engines?
Here in North America I like to research North Western Mexico’s state of Baja California and Southern California. Here the i think the border control agency does a good job counting everyone crossing the border. Then the carriers try to do a good job logging their miles. The county will count every home and business and they will have some estimate of total commercial/residential SQ FT. In Northern BC/SoCal, they don’t have seasons, so I guess it would be safer to warehouse stuff outside. But in America’s primary logistics capitol, you have a place known as the Tri-State Zone” in the northern East Coast. I like your video and I am working on something very similar to what you are discussing. cool subject
hello sir, would you help me to learm what are the basic things which we do as a logistic coordinator
hai brandon. i am a beginner. i try to make own table. how did u put the = symbol between column net flow and supply/demand
Anna Rozanna Hi Anna! I think I just put = into the cell and hit enter. Are you having a problem? If so let me know what is happening.
URGENT PLEASE -can i show the result in chart? how to do it ?
What about a warehouse that has throughput........ What supply/demand number would you put? negative or positive?
How did you do the less than or equal sign ?
Found it
