It's fantastic to see an electric car going for range, not a 0-60!
Agreed
Model Y just got a real world 320 miles but the kid never stops ragging on it. Instead he prefers a show car that would cost 1/2 million dollars but will never be sold anyway.
_Even the windows work...amazing!_ 🤣
this is what the eqs should’ve looked like
@Text me +①(⑨①⑨) ⑥②⑦-⑧⓪⑤⑧ No
700+miles at an average speed over 52mph on real roads, on just 1 charge using less than 3 total gallons worth of gas is very very impressive.
Major props to team Mercedes for showing what can be done when $ is no issue and you can call on your world champion f1 and formula e engineers for help. 😎👍🏻
Tommy is the best of the group of the TFL for technical car like that .
100%
What a car! I love that narrow long dash. Amazing to see how efficient a car can be built.
It's beautiful! My 2001 1.9L TDI (dirty diesel) Passat used to go 1000Km on a (fairly large) tank, which was really great for driving Paris-Cannes at night to avoid summer traffic jams. Charge time is long on electrics, but waiting in line for Costco gas also takes time.
Its funny seeing an industrial E-stop in such a fancy interior
This proves that you don't need to take away the mirrors to get great range. Excellent review Tommy.
LMFAO!!! Freeman seems like a typical German... but Tommy wtf was that look at 1:34? 🤣🤣🤣
One thing I miss about my last car is the range, could go easily over 700km on a single tank, and for my long peakbagging road trips, that's really handy. Love to see some attention to that.
EQXX is my favorite concept car of all time. Great to see TFL get a chance to drive it! Tommy did a superb job with this review. It is by far the best review of the EQXX that I have seen, with lots of interesting info that others skip over.
I'm so glad they sent you there for that
I do love how Mercedes’ Benz went out side the box with interior colors
It looks amazing. Absolutely stunning!
You can see and feel a vibe that we are in a New Golden Age of automobiles. It's like how the golden age of cars after World War 2, auto industry kicked off many ideas, designs and technology that was an exciting time for folks back then. Now here we are a new evolution unfolding a New Golden Age for EVs.😎
Love the solar, this is a great design and I hope they bring something like this to the market. In the meantime Aptera which hopefully will enter production at the end of this year is another very efficient albeit 3 wheeled car that uses solar to trickle charge the drive battery. Tommy always appreciate your reviews.
That big hood could have more solar too, as well as the trunk lid. Maximum gain. Cool design for sure. 👍👍(from a tall guy too)
That speed tail body ❤️
I don't know why but the exterior styling is giving me mad CLK GTR vibes. Amazing to see what fantastic engineering can make possible.
Air-cooled battery? Hello Leaf!
Having no rear window wouldn't bug me a bit provided I had the proper cameras. Keeps the car cooler....
Just looks amazing. Always reminds me of the Aston Martin DB5. Release it already so I can look at it at the dealer lol
Was just about to write this.. DB5.
True, especially the rear side pannel..
This resembles some of the pre war Mercedes streamliner race cars, and C111 concept cars.
That interior feels like George Barris kustom car, it has a retro feel.
That is Tommy's twin. Seriously Roman, that German vacation 24 years ago was more fun than you thought.
Many of the curves and other design elements call to mind my old third-generation RX-7.
Work of art
Bonkers 3 doors, car and video!
Interior is very nice! But it’s also very tight you hit a good bump ur head is hitting the roof
This solves the one problem I have with electric cars, range.
Was that a solid state battery?
You mean the FUTURE of never-ending problems once something goes wrong, no thanks guys.
Beautiful design
The wheelbase of the EQXX is the same then of the A-claas and the CLA.
Some design elements should be found on the next, or over next generation CLA ^^
According to some ger. CZcamsrs speak to Mercedes Benz ^^
Man I remember my wife’s old 2017 Honda Accord V6 Touring would get us about 530miles to empty.
Hopefully long range isn’t reserved for high$$$, on the Electric cars.
Oh it will be for a long time.
OMG that thing is gorgeous, they need to make this.
Seems like a perfect car. Wish they could drop some of the luxury parts and have the price around $40k-$60k.
It wouldn't be a Mercedes if they did that ...
@@jermainec2462 not every Mercedes has to be a class level. Make it c class level or give us some basic models like they have over in Europe
@@kens8903 over here in the US they're not going to let us have the A-Class anymore they're going upscale so they do come out with something similar to this concept it will not be cheap at all and they don't want to mess up their little image of pristine and luxuriousness if it such a word lol
Sweet car
They REALLY need to make an electric 4x4 Sprinter van with a solar roof.
Why?
@@rzu7120 because they're in high demand. A lot of people are doing the "van life."
@@djp1234 People with RVs mount their own solar panels if they want them.
@@rzu7120 it would be much better if it was factory installed and trickle charged the high voltage battery.
Solar doesn’t gather enough charge to make adding it worthwhile.
Wow!
Very nice... ;-D
And how long does it last in -30 c weather up here in Canada?
Not 1000 km's I assure you
@@wanderer397 I know. I am saying that when they figure out how to make a battery last through cold weather I will buy one of these EV cars. Until then..no way
@@Welcometofacsistube Not even half that
As far as you’d want to drive in that weather
your obviously not the target audience, who cares about canada , only North America and Europe are in ball park
So best case you can drive less than 10 hours a day on a trip. I do like the ai organic design features.
If only there were some way to charge an electric battery from 10-80% in 30 minutes or less...Oh wat Tesla can do it, Porsche, Hyundai, and Kia can do it even faster...
Not sure how you do a passenger side airbag with that screen.
Design is sweet, the cabin layout is really kool ... I'm super happy on range upgrades... but how much extra weight did that extended range battery pack add on, and currently avg charge times are kinda long ... what's the normal charge time to get this range using normal charge ports or home ... 15% to 80% ...
Good to see Mercedes making affordable Evs for the masses.
"more power to you", you're punny
165mm tires? No wonder it can go 1000kms
My first thoughts before even watching.
Rolling resistance of tyres is one of the biggest drags
Future of electric a car very few people could afford
It's like a kia EV6 front + a mclaren speedtail rear.
I'm backing out of the EV next week. I will wait for Detroit to catch up with the latest technology.
My 2018 BMW 328d will go close to 800 miles on a tank of diesel and I can refill it in less than 5 minutes….This is 75 mph with the AC on….
Your BMW also converts 80 percent of the diesel in your tank to heat that the car than has to cool. Not exactly ground breaking tech!
@@TFLcar neither is a one off multi million dollar prototype that absolutely has no use for 99% of normal people.
Lol
Diesel is dirty, you must be a dirty person. Go take a shower.
@@fcv1967 you first lithium boy and dont drop the soap, lots of soy boys in the EV locker room
I wonder if the aero design technology is helped from F1.
Badass
How is that battery smaller than my i3 battery
i hope they have some common sense and include actual buttons, sliders, etc in the final production vehicle
It’s a test bed vehicle, not intended for production.
This is awesome, but on a 165? might as well be on a bicycle tire
don’t understand the point of concept/test vehicles that never see the light of day
But will it take on "Truth or Dare"?
How fast can it charge though?...and what will battery degradation be like?
The EQXX is a concept car, and has only one goal: 1000 km range. Tommy explains the design brief at the start of the video. I hope Mercedes makes a production car like this. If they do, then it will need a liquid cooled battery to enable 4-season operation and fast charge times.
Need to talk more about “EMMA”
if you put 25 gallon tanks in cars you would get insane range too..it should be all about speed of charging..you need to charge in under 15 mins..
I am still not switching from internal combustion engine
Vegan Mylo leather! 🥰
165 wide tire? What?
Personally, I *hate* touchscreens in a vehicle. Give me physical knobs so I can keep my eyes on the damn road.
Time to adapt by 2030/2035 hopefully not alot of accidents or let me guess the company will shut your vehicle off in chase run NWO
0:45 also look at that rear end profile and tell me you don't see the butt of the next SL... or EQSL.... SL-E?
I'm sure the marketing department will figure it out.
2:50 interesting. the refresh rate of the screen increases when you are interacting with it.
12:55 long story short, not as far away as you'd think. There's been a bunch or research into this kind of design and manufacturing in the aerospace industry. every gram matters and they are willing to pay to dollar to make those grams vanish.
most of those techniques use additive manufacturing, this looks like it uses laser cutting and stamping. so I could totally see this going into production.
Oh by the way had I known TFL were in Germany I might have tried to make aquaintances.. I happen to be here currently after attending the MotoGP...
why would they want to see you ??
@@jzila9900 I didn't say they wanted to see me. I am a big fan of theirs ovr 10 years now.. How long have you been a subscriber? I also contribute in my real name have you? Jorge don't be such a pleb!
@@saddist1Gtown only 5 years subscribed, yeah your right 🥲
@@jzila9900 Grow up will you?
@@saddist1Gtown grow up? sure thing boss 👍
if they made it it would get a lot of people in electrics! That car has solved the range issue most of us have. I think electric cars and trucks need at least a 500 mile range before people will really convert. Well done Tommy that was a great one.
how much?
All the panels for the 12 volt battery seams like a waist.
Finally an electric car with range that can road trip… so long as you don’t have a family or much luggage.
boohooo obviously your not the target audience
@@jzila9900 well apparently no one is since they arent going to produce it
In my 2016 toyota regular prius. Four touring I get 750.000 miles in 1 full tank of gas. Is not prime jus regular...
Auto manufacturers shouldn’t focus on insane ranges, where more batteries are used leaving less electric cars to be built, and instead focus on increasing charging speeds. Who actually needs 300, 400, hell, 1,000 miles, if you have a car that can charge in 5 minutes?
My takeaway is the the EQXX is a cool, testbed, concept car. The good news is that it highlights the important points that aerodynamics, efficiency, solar assist, and clean operation are vital to future transportation. The downside is that the EQXX is probably not going to be ever built, and if it were, it would NOT be cheap. But the good side is that (like the lightyear One) it shows what is possible with focused, talented, and well funded engineers. And the EQXX and Lightyear One highlight the value of a the upcoming $26K Aptera, which is a super aerodynamic, efficient, solar powered, (and quick) 2-seat, 3-wheeled EV that you will actually be able to buy and drive soon (in 2023).
This type of range would get me to buy an EV. If they could add a 15-minute full charge without the environmental damage for the battery. I would lineup for one.
Any EV can go 1000 miles, if you put a big enough battery pack in it
my god that sexy, CLK GTR
Very impressive but for a car with the latest in aerodynamics I'm a little disappointed that it did not replaced the rear view mirrors with tiny cameras.
More than likely this is because of regulations.
@@shockracer Is a test bed for tech, no need to comply with regulations.
They did acknowledge that on one media medium (can't remember which one). The mirrors are aerodynamic enough that they didn't feel the need to add mirror cams. If I find the source again I'll edit this comment with the link
It is a real piece of German engineering
How long to charge
Hoe long before the bayyries die
How much to replace the baterries
Too much ill bet for normal people
Probably, let everyone else be the Guinea pigs for now and wait for the tech to improve and prices to match ICE. Could be 10-15 years from now.
It gets 750 mi to a charge are we going to build it nah
I understand Miles in range not Kilometers
The only question I have is the thousand kilometer range hypermiling it or driving normally?
They said driving normally, no drafting or anything. but I'm sure they were doing things to conserve.
👍
Anyone seen the inspiration for the Ionic 6 as yet? As I have said Hyundai tweaks other designs and most sheep jump up and down at how innovative they are really? : )
Nope the Ioniq 6 was previewed by the Prologue Concept Hyundai released about three years ago or so.That teardrop shape that slopes to the Kamm tail is probably the most efficient for maximizing aerodynamics.
@@anthonyesiemokhai1603 I could not prove 100% of course but it is my opinion they stole some design cues from the QXX as indeed the "Prophecy" concept they showed has been drastically redesigned.
My diesel focus can go 1000km on one tank
This is what all manufactures need to be doing. Let's make these electric cars more efficient, stop focusing on 0-60.
GAS ONLY !
Let me race🏁🤪
what’s the price? i’m sure it’s outrageous

And if you make enough sacrifices you can have an ICE car that gets 60 mpg too.
May be like $900,000 million dollars or $500,000 High money no joke at all lol
Much more than that, millions…. considering all of the one off R&D
He said it was white leather, and then said the interior is made from recycled material. Did he mean recycled leather?
@@wanderer397 Tesla's "vegan leather"
I’ll believe it when they start selling it.
Uh. Believe what? They said it's a prototype. A proof of concept.
Nice to see EV designers starting to embrace a more efficiency weighted design philosophy. Some whiz bang feature content could be eliminated with reduced cost and with concomitant increased efficiency. Goals for the masses are reduced battery packs, slicker aero, acceleration on par with economy oriented ICE cars...while neck snapping torque is a hoot and interiors that have star wars tech are a hoot, they are not necessary for most drivers.
I’m here for the ever iconic tommy

And cost 2.7 million!!!!!!!
I think that's the project one. Not this, since this is a research car
