With a crime rate of 43 per one thousand residents, Farmers Branch has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 23. Super funny to me that so many of these people speaking against poker are making it sound like this is such a nice and safe community when in reality...

As a long time cash game player (S FL) who long ago stopped following poker news I really appreciate your channel’s recent pivot and really only get my poker news, at this point, from a few hybrid poker channels like yours (and Doug’s).
    I encourage you to continue.
That said I encourage you to reconsider the way you minimize the opinions of those that oppose our position.
I think it obvious that any opposed town resident, after watching this video, would not be swayed and would likely feel more justified in keeping us out.
This is not the way to change minds.
Being respectful and letting them see who we are over time is the way.
The truth, as we both know, is that unlike general gambling poker brings far more good to a community than bad.
We have to acknowledge that there are those (we’ve all seen them) who get lost being poker degens BUT the skills learned in making decisions with imperfect information is so critical (I taught it to all 4 of my children) and the community writ large are certainly net positive additions to most communities.
    Just my two cents.

I’m a poker player and would selfishly welcome a wider availability of card rooms in Texas, and anywhere for that matter. But you’ve got your head in the sand if you don’t acknowledge that gambling rooms attract a lot of degenerates, crime and drugs. Yes there are many good people as well, but so what, it doesn’t offset the downsides. It’s not uncommon in poker rooms to see pots on select tables in the tens of thousands of dollars. Just some harmless, friendly neighbourhood poker action. Great for the community! Gimme a break.

They were there first, it's not like they moved to Vegas and tried to shut down the strip. The poker community is trying to set up shop in their back yard, if gambling goes against the values and beliefs of the locals then it's best to set up somewhere else, you wouldn't put a liquor store in a Sunni neighborhood, not everyone has the same belief system that's why you have these meetings, to take the pulse of the community. I gamble and I can do it responsibility but we all know some players who are sick and should get help, we refer to them as whales and think they have tens of millions and can afford it but that's not always the case. I think poker is healthy for the majority, especially for the retiree's to socialize and stimulate their mind but I can respect people's opinions too and I know it's not all sunshine and lollypops, if you play enough poker you've seen the dark side. Gambling addiction is real and making it close and convenient for some college kid vs having to drive 2 hours could change their life. I don't think we should laugh at these people. The types of businesses you put in a community shape the community, just like when you put more liquor stores in a community you get more alcoholics. I moved to the gambling capital of the world and I gamble a lot and like being able to but not everyone wants it close to where they're raising a family and I can respect that too

Associating drugs, illegal activity, and drinking with poker is ridiculous, i thought Texas was a state of freedom? Gambling in general should be allowed, and definitely, poker. If you're that bad at poker maybe you should take a break or give it up, I stand with Doug and hope he gets his room ✊🏼
I've been in the online gaming business since 2001 and would consider investing in a new room, be it Texas or S Fl, it's always been a dream of mine (hmu Doug, my mom is from England too, my dad's name is Doug, we have many, many things in common).
This meeting makes Texas look really bad imo, I live in Florida and consider us the top 2 states as far as freedom is concerned. It actually makes me think of Footloose trying to outlaw dancing in the 1980's 🤣🤣🤣

If you buy insurance you gamble.
Many of the institutions we do business with on a daily, monthly, or annual basis is a gamble.

A pool table, don't you understand?
Friend, either you're closing your eyes to a situation you do not wish to acknowledge
Or you are not aware of the caliber of disaster
Indicated by the presence of a pool table in your community
Well, ya got trouble my friend
Right here I say, trouble right in River City, why sure, I'm a billiard player
Certainly, mighty proud I say, I'm always mighty proud to say it
I consider that the hours I spend with a cue in my hand are golden
Help you cultivate horse sense and a cool head and a keen eye
Did you ever take and try to find and iron-clad leave for yourself
    From a three-rail billiard shot?
But just as I say it takes judgement, brains and maturity to score
In a balkline game, I say that any boob
Can take and shove a ball in a pocket
And I call that sloth the first big step on the road to the depths of deg-ra-day
I say, first, medicinal wine from a teaspoon, then beer from a bottle
And the next thing you know your son is playing for money in a pinch-back suit
And listenin' to some big outta town jasper, hearin' him tell about horse race gamblin'
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they set down right on the horse
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy, settin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil
    Well I should say
Now friends, let me tell you what I mean
    You got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 pockets in a table
Pockets that mark the difference between a gentleman and a bum
With a capital "B" and that rhymes with "P" and that stands for pool
And all week long your River City youth'll be fritterin' away
I say, your young men will be fritterin'
Fritterin' away their noontime, suppertime, choretime too
Get the ball in the pocket, never mind gettin' dandelions pulled
Or the screen door patched or the beef steak pounded
Never mind pumpin' any water, 'til your parents are caught with the cistern empty
On a Saturday night and that's trouble
Yes, you got lots and lots of trouble, I'm thinkin' of the kids in the knickerbockers
Shirt-tail young ones, peekin' in the pool hall window after school
You got trouble, folks, right here in River City, trouble with a capital "T"
And that rhymes with "P" and that stands for pool
Now I know all you folks are the right kind of parents
    I'm gonna be perfectly frank
Would you like to know what kinda conversation goes on while they're loafing around that hall?
They be tryin' out Bevo, tryin' out cubebs
Tryin' out Tailor Mades like cigarette fiends
And braggin' all about how they're gonna cover up a tell-tale breath with Sen-Sen
One fine night, they leave the pool hall
Heading for the dance at the Arm'ry
Libertine men and scarlet women, and ragtime, shameless music
That'll grab your son, your daughter with the arms of a jungle, animal instinct
    Mass-staria
Friends, the idle brain is the devil's playground
    Trouble (oh, we got trouble)
Right here in River City (right here in River City)
With a capital "T" and that rhymes with "P" and that stands for pool (that stands for pool)
We've surely got trouble (we've surely got trouble)
Right here in River City (right here)
Gotta figure out a way to keep the young ones moral after school
(Our children's children gonna have trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble)
Mothers of River City, heed that warning before it's too late
Watch for the tell-tale signs of corruption
The minute your son leaves the house
Does he re-buckle his knickerbockers below the knee?
Is there a nicotine stain on his index finger?
A dime novel hidden in the corn crib?
Is he starting to memorise jokes from Cap'n Billy's Whiz Bang?
Are certain words creeping into his conversation
Words like, like "swell"? (Trouble, trouble, trouble)
And so's your old man? (Trouble, trouble, trouble)
Well if so, my friends, you got trouble (oh we got trouble)
Right here in River City (right here in River City)
With a capital "T" and that rhymes with "P" and that stands for pool (that stands for pool)
We've surely got trouble (we've surely got trouble)
Right here in River City (right here)
Remember the Maine, Plymouth Rock and the Golden Rule
(Our children's children gonna have trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble)
Oh, we got trouble, we're in terrible, terrible trouble
That game with the fifteen numbered balls is a devil's tool (devil's tool)
Oh, yes we got trouble, trouble, trouble
(Oh yes we got trouble here, we got big, big trouble)
    With a "T" (with a capital "T")
Gotta rhyme it with "P" (gotta rhyme with "P")

    - the audience speaking against poker is completely based and their words cannot be taken to make a case because they have no objective experience at all towards poker
    - all the “prosecuting” people are all basing their argument on the moral dilemma and that because they are Christians… of course they will be against it
    - however, the point that residents of Farmers Branch do not want any affiliation with poker or any kind of card gaming is valid; majority of people should have ultimate choice on whether they want to make their hometowns be associated with any sort of industry whatsoever; though I just wish that these people vote against Poker because they actually known the culture behind and not just some diabolical thing that they are making it out to be

Exactly. I'd rather them make a more informed decision as to not embrace a poker room instead of some hair brained knee jerk reaction to "morally this is bad. What would Jesus do!!!?" Kind of response. Because if you want to build a real case against cardrooms you can. There is a reason they're always in shady areas or Indian reservations far far from big cities. I gotta drive 40 minutes to my closest card room here in Los Angeles. And they're always in bad areas.

These people live in a slower community and they don’t want all the racket that a card house will bring. It’s completely valid. Not sure why poker players are acting like children here. Doug can find another place to open a casino. These people clearly don’t want it, and they have every right.

25:20 you say the next generation can become pro poker players and they can make a lot of money. Are you somehow mentally inept and unable to comprehend that for every winner there is a loser? Pro poker players don't exist without losing poker players. The fact that people can play poker professionally is proof that there are people out there losing A LOT of money playing poker. Everyone can't be pro. Pros rely on losing players to exist. A lot of those losing players can't afford to lose what they are losing. You can't deny this system exists.
