- Strap yourself in! As we build towards the 100th All Blacks v South Africa Test on September 25 in Townsville, we look back at six nerve-wracking All Blacks v South Africa finishes.
The games are:
Pretoria: 1996
Johannesburg: 1997
Christchurch: 2004
Dunedin: 2005
Durban: 2007
Johannesburg: 2010

That 1996 finish has to be the greatest simply because of the significance of the first ever series win in South Africa. Older AB fans will know just how big a deal it was to finally cross that barrier after so much heartbreak… that 96 team was legendary (and full of legends) and their exhaustion at the end shows how much it took from them.
Good comment bro
Seeing Jerry Collins running around on the pitch man I miss him so much 😭 r.i.p to a legend
RIP JC
Nonu's pass to Dagg perfection
One shoe Nonu always be my favourite finish.

When the All Blacks came back from 30-18 to win against SA with 7mins to go, back in 2018. That was a mean one ✊🇳🇿🇳🇿
Abs always will be the benchmark in world rugby!🏉💯
Man. I will forever cherish my high school days in boys boarding school. Watching Richie lead his mean every Saturday was like watching super heroes save the day every Saturday of test match rugby. Richie was my hero.
You have to love those matches where the winning team would prefer to collapse at the finish rather than celebrate. Shows us what an encounter those matches were back in the 90s.
Gotta say as a bok supporter, watching the AB’s take the game in the last 10 minutes time and time again has been frustrating. Huge respect to the ABs. Used to think the boks were unfit but now I think the ABs just execute their game plan and stay composed. Boks can’t stick to the game plan in the dying minutes as it would include giving away possession
i think its for any team vs the All blacks..games vs Australia/Ireland comes to mind too. But this is the official all black channel so obviously they would only show AB comeback wins
I feel for you I understand what you mean fully even though I'm a Kiwi I've seen it all too many times in another sport of mine. Seen it 8 years in a row.
You have a point prove. Yet again. Kicking away possession in the final 2 mins when your behind on the scoreboard more than once is criminal from an all blacks supporters perspective. Unlucky to lose the 100th.
@@joshmills9674 no what that says is this ugly kicking game is so ingrained in bok rugby and shows that theres no plan B in thier attack ecpecially like wat you saw today. They are just relying on penalties to win games. It comes down to how they are coached and how skills are completely coached out of the boks. Its like watching robot out there. They can get away with that against similar teams but not against Australia or NZ
It’s so frustrating. Such a good team with potential, good coaching with much of the politics sorted out, but as you say, the game plan is robotic. It is predicated on the opposition making mistakes. Even when they do (like today) the scoreboard just ticks over 3 points at a time. The ABs take the game into their own hands and execute, and they go for the 7 points. The boks can play running rugby, imagine how unpredictable they’d be if they just kept switching it up.
2018 and 19 were some pretty good matches
Mealamu the bullet..... that's the most crucial hole he has ever punched..Gold from Murray Mexted😅
3 wins in the past 10yrs says it all.
Like Reiko Ioane said to the Welsh on the 2017 Eoy Northern Tour 'Check the score, Check the score'.
I've been wanting to see that match solely to see that moment.
2018? one of the great all black comebacks 30-18 down
They thort they had us hey...but then we came back strong 💪 as always.
At one stage it was 30-13 down which makes that win even more impressive
Jon Preston’s kick from halfway was epic: 19:05
ABs channel with some fire content lately 🔥
yeah i agree and its about time haha
The. All blacks. Still. Number. One. In. The. World all. There. Idea and. There. Style. Never. Changed is. Pretty. To watch them on. The. Field. Anywhere in the. World God bless All black cheers
Zinzans field goal ... right up there with Brodies dummy and side-step. 😁👌
The Respect & History Of Both Nations Is What Makes Our Game Great, Nothing But Respect For The Oldest Foe Who Had There Fair Share Of Last Minute Winners No More Bigger Then The Boks Inaugural World Cup
Still the best team in the world
True but even AB fans have to admit the boks are their biggest rivals and if any team ever does surpass them for a long time period its most likely going to be the boks
The greatest rugby rivalry
Tugging at the heartstrings to see the Brook in 2005, many a happy hour spent there over the years. I’m sure many Cantabs are the same with Lancaster Park…
I've Always respect South Africa SPRINGBOKS when it comes to a rugby 🏉 game 🤠🍻🤠👍
As an old-timer I also recall Allan Hewson's penalty goal to win the controversial (for reasons other than rugby) 1981 series at Eden Park. Ray Mordt scored his third try to bring SA level at 22-22, but Hewson kicked the goal several minutes into injury time to win the match. Going back even further I recall Gerald Bosch's final penalty goal at Ellis Park to win the match 15-14 and the series for SA against Andy Leslie's 1976 All Blacks, and as a boy, Fergie McCormick's last minute penalty to win the infamous Cape Town test 9-8, back 50 years ago in 1970. Nostalgia. :)
That game in 1970 was significant for my parents. They had sold their hotel in Dunedin and had done the stocktake at midnight, then sat up and listened to the game on the radio - no direct TV coverage in New Zealand for overseas events back then. They said the result was the perfect send off from their business.
you couldn't make this up, Fantastic
So often I have seen the All Blacks down with 3 mins to go and still believed they could win...
Fantastic vid
Solid!
NAILED IT GUY'S 🏈🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
All black fans can thank the great Australian sides of the early 90's and then the late 90's/early 2000's who regularly won tight matches against the AB's...
It taught the future AB's to never give up!
McCaw's reign was supreme at finishing games from behind with superior fitness and mental toughness...
Great games!
More like Australia have NZ to thank if they didn't get to play NZ 3 times a year not counting world cups they wouldn't have been anywhere near as good the experience is invaluable.
20:49:The significance here was that this was the moment when New Zealand won a Test series in South Africa for the first time. It was a long time coming.
Straight after SA won the world cup in 1995 they lost their next 4 tests in a row to NZ in 1996.
Neutral referees in South Africa for the first time..... This would've happened many decades earlier and everyone who's aware of how insanely biased SA refs were, just accepts this
Amazing stuff.
Monday ngt - September 13, 2021.
McCaw for the corner!!!!
Richie McCorner
Some really good ding dong battles over the years with the Boks... I must say beating the wallabies is sweet but to beat the Boks in South Africa is so much sweater. It would have to be the equivalent of climbing Everest in rugby terms surely
Anyone notice tony woodcock there in 2007. And hes still rolling right now
No wonder they hate us. I'd hate us too if that kept happening to my team.
The Boks don't hate the ABs - they're the best competition of any team in the world, always has been, and there's a great competitive spirit between the two teams. The whingeing English, though, is a different matter.
Boks have also won 1-2 close ones - how come they are not here.
Why post all the ones the abs won.
Because they can 😅 so fkn what?
@@MaoriiGurLO9 just asking. Why not post the best ones. Not only ones won by nz
Wanna tissue?
This is the official All Blacks channel u numb nuts
It's an All Black's post Spring Boks can post their own victories😂
During Bokke playing flowing rugby. Not just kicking
The first one is the best...that was in front of a sellout 95k stadium and Smits 100th.
Would have to be the ‘96 finish as the best. Can’t underestimate how significant for NZ to win its first ever series in South Africa after so many failures before. Breaking that hoodoo laid the foundation for ABs to win regularly over in South Africa since then
At 10:00 Rico Gear fired {the ball} into touch" by throwing it! Illegal, surely?
Is the same broadcaster guy? There is no more in nz tv? 🤣😅🤣
anybody else see the hand in the ruck at 3:10 ?
The St James theatre in Wellington NZ, has just been retrofitted with Taylor Devices viscous dampers.
Haha you're here again. I'm intrigued; why is it important these buildings are getting earthquake dampers?
@@andrewlawson573
The dampers absorb some of the earthquakes energy, so the building sways, twists less = less damage.
@@Viscous_Dampers_For_Houses How hard will Wellington get hit if the Alpine fault fully lets rip?
@@andrewlawson573
Alpine is far away from Welly, but a long 2min shake could do some serious damage, after shocks will last for many years.
Con artist, a scammer from BECA.

Surely you're not allowed to throw the ball out like that?
Law 10.2 (c) Throwing into touch. A player must not intentionally knock, place, push or throw the ball with his arm or hand into touch, touch-in-goal, or over the dead ball line.
I believe that was OK back then
Surely there a some "nerve-wracking" finishes no won by the AB's ??
Of course there are. Are you implying they should make a video of it?
There are, Cobus, but they are too nerve-wracking for us NZers to watch. Heheh.
Yes but you'll be struggling to find many
RUGBY DOESN'T MATTER!!!
You do not matter why are you on a rugby channel
...to who?
you?
I would recommend you to avoid this type of channel then.... (lol!, really weird people outhere!)
First game - three forward passes, dangerous high tackle, and playing ball on the ground. Third game playing the ball on the ground, 4th game playing the player at an offside position, No wonder the bok supporters are aggrieved by decisions that keep going against them
your mama
@@PepeTenny very mature.
@@TheThinkingMathematician your mama too then boy lol
@@TheThinkingMathematician an also your mama's mama 🤣
Sounds like your TEACHING style encourages victimhood, finger pointing and soyboy-ness,,, heaps of SA discrepancies against all teams too - no one scans through the footage like you lot crying fowl... Rassie has certainly opened a can of worms here
When you think about all the games our dark skinned māori brothers had to sit out that the boks took a W should be classed as null void imo or we should protest and say we don't wanna play the blondes 🤣🤣🤣🤣 you can be an honorary brunette 🤣🤣🤣
Dude when stop being an idiot you should relise that is racist oh my misstake their not black so it somehow is not funny how that shit works also half our team is black ond 2 of the white half are blond
That's why SA record during the apartheid years is good because no one could send any coloured players so they never played the best
Tf this guy on about with his Maori this Maori that stfu give all Samoas players back. Another numb nut
