    The games are:
    Pretoria: 1996

    Durban: 2007

    That 1996 finish has to be the greatest simply because of the significance of the first ever series win in South Africa. Older AB fans will know just how big a deal it was to finally cross that barrier after so much heartbreak… that 96 team was legendary (and full of legends) and their exhaustion at the end shows how much it took from them.

    Gotta say as a bok supporter, watching the AB’s take the game in the last 10 minutes time and time again has been frustrating. Huge respect to the ABs. Used to think the boks were unfit but now I think the ABs just execute their game plan and stay composed. Boks can’t stick to the game plan in the dying minutes as it would include giving away possession

      @joshmills9674 Před 2 lety +1

      You have a point prove. Yet again. Kicking away possession in the final 2 mins when your behind on the scoreboard more than once is criminal from an all blacks supporters perspective. Unlucky to lose the 100th.

    • @Skybar23
      @Skybar23 Před 2 lety

      @@joshmills9674 no what that says is this ugly kicking game is so ingrained in bok rugby and shows that theres no plan B in thier attack ecpecially like wat you saw today. They are just relying on penalties to win games. It comes down to how they are coached and how skills are completely coached out of the boks. Its like watching robot out there. They can get away with that against similar teams but not against Australia or NZ

    • @sechuan
      @sechuan Před 2 lety

      It’s so frustrating. Such a good team with potential, good coaching with much of the politics sorted out, but as you say, the game plan is robotic. It is predicated on the opposition making mistakes. Even when they do (like today) the scoreboard just ticks over 3 points at a time. The ABs take the game into their own hands and execute, and they go for the 7 points. The boks can play running rugby, imagine how unpredictable they’d be if they just kept switching it up.

    As an old-timer I also recall Allan Hewson's penalty goal to win the controversial (for reasons other than rugby) 1981 series at Eden Park. Ray Mordt scored his third try to bring SA level at 22-22, but Hewson kicked the goal several minutes into injury time to win the match. Going back even further I recall Gerald Bosch's final penalty goal at Ellis Park to win the match 15-14 and the series for SA against Andy Leslie's 1976 All Blacks, and as a boy, Fergie McCormick's last minute penalty to win the infamous Cape Town test 9-8, back 50 years ago in 1970. Nostalgia. :)

      That game in 1970 was significant for my parents. They had sold their hotel in Dunedin and had done the stocktake at midnight, then sat up and listened to the game on the radio - no direct TV coverage in New Zealand for overseas events back then. They said the result was the perfect send off from their business.
