We won the lottery in 2021 for a 3 day stay at Brooks Lodge. It was the most spectacular experience and hopefully not a once in a lifetime. We drove to Homer and took a float plane directly to Katmai National Park 👍 So many “firsts” on that trip. Crazy thing is we ended up staying in Alaska for a whole month. ❤️❤️

Thanks 👍🤣There were bears everywhere. The plane is small and you feel the turbulence but these pilots fly it multiple times a day so we felt pretty safe.
You all have taken us to places in Alaska that I have never been to yet in the 30 years that I lived there! I still have plenty of time to get to them & make my own memories & thank you for sharing yours with us especially for those who may not ever make it to this beautiful place! I'm enjoying my Arizona weather but I do truly miss the wild and mysterious land of the Midnight Sun!

What a cool adventure and how brave you were wandering down paths when there were bears doing their own wandering EVERYWHERE! They sure put on a show didn't they so I'm sure it was worth the long hours of puddle jumping. I'm feeling a bit sad that your great Alaskan (and Canadian) adventure is almost over.
It was a very surreal experience to be at Brooks Falls and see the bears. A little weird to walk the mile to the platforms knowing that bears may be on the same path! It's always bittersweet when a trip is near the end but it's been a lot of fun and there's always the next trip ! Thanks for watching.

My wife and I took a float plane out of Ketchikan, Alaska and flew to the misty fiord and landed on an upper lake just in time to see a brown bear feeding on salmon. We stayed out in the lake and stood on the pontoon and took pictures. Wonderful trip. Thank you for sharing your trip it brings back memories. We are both 82 and it would be very hard to do it again.
Thank you so much for this video! I love to watch those fishing bears on the cameras. There is a hole/low space in from of the falls that there is usually a bear sitting in. They love that spot.

Spent two years on a Crab Boat in the Bering Sea and flew many a little nine seaters!! And I wanted to see the Squirrell they say they are bigger than the ones in Texas !!! LOL

OMG I loved this video! Back in 2014 when I did a land trip in Alaska with my mom I wanted to do this bear trip to Katmai but I knew mom wouldn't really enjoy it. I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure thru your experience! I often watch the live Bear Web Cam to pass the time while I am workamping and it is quiet, the bears are so entertaining. That bear sitting on the rock has done that all season and there were times the salmon practically jumped into his/her mouth and the bear acted like he/she was in a trance. Absolutely AMAZING video and that would be so worth whatever the cost was definitely a trip of a lifetime.

so glad your flight was cancelled, in saying that I had in my life something I don't talk about much. I was 17 yrs old and stationed at a naval air station out side of Reno Nv and many reservist come there to practice bombing etc. turn out 20 of them were flying back to the bay area in Calif and it was windy. the plane bounced twice and hit hard and broke up, we lost all 20 of them. something that left a bad memory for a young man
That's terrible and such a loss of life. We were disappointed in missing our second night but thankful we had a safe journey. It all works out for the best. Thanks for sharing and appreciate your comments.

Hi. Love your channel. Great still pics (and vdo.) As I have requested of other channels, could you reference at the beginning of your videos the time frame of the content? It, as a viewer, is nice to know when your videos are captured, not just when you upload to CZcams. You made a reference at the end of this one that you have 2 days to cross over 500 miles. Is this possibly connected to the potential U.S. gov. Shutdown? If I knew when this was filmed I could put 2&2 together. Thx for considering.
Great suggestion, David. This was done on Sept 1 - 2. During the video we reference the date of Sept 4th as the date when the Canadian Customs station will close on Top of the World highway. It's the shortest distance to get to Dawson City and our intended next journey. I'll look at incorporating that in the future.

Thanks, Kathy. We were very fortunate indeed. The border which is closing is the Canadian station on the Top of The World Highway. It's open seasonally when the road is passable. We need to make it to that station or we have to drive an additional 800 miles to get to our next route. And we don't want to drive that many more miles! We have to hurry!

They had a lot of travelling to do in 2 days. They had to get to the Alaska/Canada border before it closed for the winter. So, they probably have not had time to edit their video.
We plan to come back and do it a little differently. Try to stay a week next time and do a few tours which 10,000 will be part of that plan. Beautiful area we want to explore in more depth. Thanks for watching.
We were there in early September. Took a float plane out of Homer- an AMAZING experience- we just went for a day though. Still looking for our paths to cross as we start heading south from our Alaska adventure. Love love your videos and y’all are so fun to watch.
It’s on my bucket list to go to Katmai National Park for the bears. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am wondering why you said the border is closing and you have to travel 500 miles in two days to cross it. How come?
Thanks, Kathy. This particular border station for Canada does not stay open all year. The road it's on is a seasonal highway and only open from June 1 until September 4th so the customs stations close as well. We have to make it through before they close otherwise. we may have to drive an additional 800 miles! And we don't want to do that.
My wife and I are enjoying your Alaska travels. My wife is especially enjoying Sondra's beautiful wildlife pictures. Would you please share what kind of still camera Sondra is using and if she shoots her photos on an auto setting or manually. We are wondering if we should buy a new camera and learn how to use all of the features, or if we can get away with shooting on automatic. Thank you!
Thank you, Steve. Sondra does enjoy her wildlife photography. She still uses a Nikon 5500 with a 300mm lens for her shots. She generally uses manual mode since the auto setting on the Nikon is not very good. She plays around with the exposure settings constantly. She used to have a Canon EOS and really enjoyed it but thought she would upgrade several years ago....she may go back to a Canon. Glad you enjoyed it and appreciate your time watching the channel.

Great video I guess no bear spray did the cabin have food or was there a main house like a breakfast thing all you need put some pondtunes on curiosity to get across the lake LOL take care happy camping
Thanks for watching, James. No bear spray allowed and the main lodge area had food (buffet style) for 3 meals a day. That would have been nice to bring Curiosity!
We did not share the cabin as that is not an option. If we had a larger group then more could have been in the cabin for the same price. The cabin is $950/night. Total roundtrip from Anchorage, one night for two people was $3,500. That also included a few meals we had in the lodge.
Hey Bill, the Canada border which is closing is at Top Of the World highway which connects to Dawson City from Chicken, Alaska. The road is not an "all season" highway so the border stations will close at the end of the season. Usually, this station was open until mid-September but since Covid they started closing it earlier in the month. If we don't make it then we have to drive an additional 800 miles. We don't want to do that!
LOL...well, that's one way! The bears are "used" to people and will ignore you if you don't get in their way! The bears have the right of way on the trails.

Brooks Falls was a favorite trip of ours. We went last year and stayed at Alaska’s Gold Creek Lodge in King Salmon. It was the best.

Hi. Love your channel. Great still pics (and vdo.) As I have requested of other channels, could you reference at the beginning of your videos the time frame of the content? It, as a viewer, is nice to know when your videos are captured, not just when you upload to CZcams. You made a reference at the end of this one that you have 2 days to cross over 500 miles. Is this possibly connected to the potential U.S. gov. Shutdown? If I knew when this was filmed I could put 2&2 together. Thx for considering.
Great suggestion, David. This was done on Sept 1 - 2. During the video we reference the date of Sept 4th as the date when the Canadian Customs station will close on Top of the World highway. It's the shortest distance to get to Dawson City and our intended next journey. I'll look at incorporating that in the future.

LOL...Well, Randy, it's a bird which looks like a duck but only more slender. I think it's a Merganzer duck but 'm probably wrong.
That was a lot of fun, would be more fun there but still fun. You must have a bunch of bear video and pics if you loaded it as a bonus I would watch it and I bet others would also. Stay safe and healthy.

Thanks, Kathy. We were very fortunate indeed. The border which is closing is the Canadian station on the Top of The World Highway. It's open seasonally when the road is passable. We need to make it to that station or we have to drive an additional 800 miles to get to our next route. And we don't want to drive that many more miles! We have to hurry!

They had a lot of travelling to do in 2 days. They had to get to the Alaska/Canada border before it closed for the winter. So, they probably have not had time to edit their video.

We were there in early September. Took a float plane out of Homer- an AMAZING experience- we just went for a day though. Still looking for our paths to cross as we start heading south from our Alaska adventure. Love love your videos and y’all are so fun to watch.

It’s on my bucket list to go to Katmai National Park for the bears. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am wondering why you said the border is closing and you have to travel 500 miles in two days to cross it. How come?
Thanks, Kathy. This particular border station for Canada does not stay open all year. The road it's on is a seasonal highway and only open from June 1 until September 4th so the customs stations close as well. We have to make it through before they close otherwise. we may have to drive an additional 800 miles! And we don't want to do that.

My wife and I are enjoying your Alaska travels. My wife is especially enjoying Sondra's beautiful wildlife pictures. Would you please share what kind of still camera Sondra is using and if she shoots her photos on an auto setting or manually. We are wondering if we should buy a new camera and learn how to use all of the features, or if we can get away with shooting on automatic. Thank you!
Thank you, Steve. Sondra does enjoy her wildlife photography. She still uses a Nikon 5500 with a 300mm lens for her shots. She generally uses manual mode since the auto setting on the Nikon is not very good. She plays around with the exposure settings constantly. She used to have a Canon EOS and really enjoyed it but thought she would upgrade several years ago....she may go back to a Canon. Glad you enjoyed it and appreciate your time watching the channel.

Great video I guess no bear spray did the cabin have food or was there a main house like a breakfast thing all you need put some pondtunes on curiosity to get across the lake LOL take care happy camping
Thanks for watching, James. No bear spray allowed and the main lodge area had food (buffet style) for 3 meals a day. That would have been nice to bring Curiosity!

Great video. Just curious the cost of the bear watching expedition, and did you share the cabin ?
We did not share the cabin as that is not an option. If we had a larger group then more could have been in the cabin for the same price. The cabin is $950/night. Total roundtrip from Anchorage, one night for two people was $3,500. That also included a few meals we had in the lodge.

Hey Bill, the Canada border which is closing is at Top Of the World highway which connects to Dawson City from Chicken, Alaska. The road is not an "all season" highway so the border stations will close at the end of the season. Usually, this station was open until mid-September but since Covid they started closing it earlier in the month. If we don't make it then we have to drive an additional 800 miles. We don't want to do that!

LOL...well, that's one way! The bears are "used" to people and will ignore you if you don't get in their way! The bears have the right of way on the trails.
