    I recently changed the plugs and wires in my stock 2003 C5 LS1. It was originally my father's car - he bought it new. Here's the shocker...it has 153,000 miles on the original plugs and wires. Engine still ran great and no codes were being set. I knew it was overdue for some fresh plugs and wires. Due to age and miles, the boots were stuck on the plugs. I broke several wires pulling and twisting on the boots. I ended soaking each boot with spray lube and waiting overnight. That did the trick. Thankfully, I had new wires waiting to be installed. The gap on the old plugs had grown to .058". (s/b .040"). The color of the old plugs was perfect - a nice light tan color. Leaving the oil fill cap off while working would make me nervous.

    Best tutorial vid out there thus far.... horrible lighting though.

    Thanks a bunch for the video! Just changed my plugs and wires on my 2012 Grand Sport. Great advice on not cross threading the plugs, i was super careful putting them in by hand.

    Thanks for the video, very helpful as I am going to attempt to change the plugs in my C6 LS2..Only thing I would add is I want to see the difficult ones to remove and not just hear the last 2 I had to use a smaller extension... I want to see what you used and how hard you had to struggle so I know ahead of time. same with the driver side and the fuel line, would have loved to see how you struggled to get it off and not just hear how you had to flex the cover. I also understand its hard to video and use 2 hands to do something as well. Great video thanks again. I subscribed..

      Thanks for the response and the follow. Unfortunately, I realized after I did this one that the lighting was not very good and also did not want to be repetitive by showing 8 spark plug replacements. As you mentioned, I probably should have just showed the difficult ones. If I remember correctly, they were "somewhat" difficult but not super hard as I have experienced on some other cars.

    Thank you for sharing the video. It would be better if the lighting had been more brighter.

    Didn't mention how much torque to use but typical might be 11 ft. pounds with dry threads. Also if using thread grease than torque should be lower because specified torque assumes plug are dry.

    It would have helped to see the tool needed on the drivers side that you talked about. Other than that great presentation. Also, what was the mileage on the old plugs?

    • @DIYGuyUSA
      @DIYGuyUSA  Před 5 lety

      Sorry about the lighting, the spark plug puller can be seen in the video thumbnail and the mileage was 67K miles.

    Surprised no one notice that when you hand threaded putting the spark plug in you didn't torque it down. You just put the boot on.

    No need to gap? I just received my ac Delco spark plugs. It bold print "SET GAP PER VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS ".

      @DIYGuyUSA  Před 5 měsíci +1

      It depends on the spark plugs. For Iridium type spark plugs and many other fine tips, they can be damaged if trying to gap them so they are pre-gapped.

      @@positronicreflex. I'm a mechanic and once the front desk people charged way less than the job really was so I backed up and told front shop either call customer and charge more labor or they could do it them selves. I can remember just to get to those wires in front of the engine was a pain, I believe the distributor is shoved in some tight space.

      @@Keyno77 Yep. That's why I vowed to do it myself, prob saved a couple hundred. The opti is right under the water pump, but I only removed the drive belt and one pulley. Thankfully my arm and hand fit thru the top to reach down with taking anything else out. It was a nightmare, but my check engine light went out! 👍
