Just a suggestion, I would bring in your old plugs where you get your car tuned and show them. It looks to be running a little rich. NIce job as usual Chris!
NGK what I use for all my LS and your car running a little rich
You’re killing these C5 tutorials! I shouted you out in my carbon fiber wide body quarter panel video. Keep up the good work!
🙏🏻 Thank you!
Great easy walk through
Great job!
I went with ac delco plugs but ngk is good too. You are very right about ceramics with headers. That is a requirement if running headers. Good tip and good video!!
I'm going with some iridium / ACDelco 41-110 IRIDIUM Spark Plugs OE 12621258, the originals where platinum / ACDelco 41-962 Professional Platinum Spark Plug, which have much shorter lives, still have the originals in as I only have 27,000 mile on her and she running fine, if they were iridium, I wouldn't even be thinking of changing them yet.
I like the accel wires but unless you get them from China they're 5x the cost of the metal boots which have held up fine for me so far (original Z06 exhaust). And even from china with a 2/3 week ship time, they are 3x the cost. That's a lot of cost to justify IMHO, I'm more of a bang for the buck minimalist.
Thanks for the video, I was looking at that plug behind the master cylinder and wondering if there was any trick to it, but nope just standard issue tool set. Still it's gonna be a tight squeeze getting that one especially.
Still enjoying the catch-can fiasco, lol, We are sooo.. human. The road to disaster can be paved with the best of intentions. I installed a catch-can on my CTS because it has the dreaded direct injection dirty intake valve syndrome. Then I found out there are 2 outlets, one on each valve covers and I only plumbed the PVC one, lol. Oh well back to the ol' drawing board.
Great video as always
Probably not bad idea to go down to TR6, I’ve had the best luck with adding timing with them, and you was right about the motor mounts with the fast, mine are OG and had plenty of room for the MAP.
Great video again Chris. I've never broken a spark plug, not once. Well, maybe a couple of dozen over the years. LOL. According to my diagnostics I am running lean in both banks where as your plugs look to be rich, carbon build up. Keep up the great work and videos.
I found out a long time ago that it’s a helluva lot easier upon breaking the spark plug loose & re-installing it, to use a 6’’ section of 3/8’’ fuel line slipped over the end of the plug.
That way, upon removing the plug it you don’t run the risk of the plug falling out of the socket and ending up someplace that’s a pain in the ass to get to it. And secondly, upon re-installing it, you really lessen the chances of cross threading it, and you can twist it right in with your fingers. Then get out the socket, etc, and tighten them down to spec.
Like Keith Paolella said. It's running rich. Should be a light brown color. Lean it out a little. More power, better mileage.
I use a little dielectric grease on the spark plug boots so they come off easier the next time I do a plug change.
I ended up getting it double jointed spark plug socket to get into that number seven and make it a little easier but the worst part was the spark plug boots I actually had to break them off to get them off the spark plug. And as always enjoy your videos Chris👍
8:20 i ordered those cables.. cool vid👍
Chris, good job! Looks like it’s running rich. Hey, you’ve got to get yourself a fender cover so you won’t scratch your fenders.
Thinking about doing it myself for mine..
I knew it! Getting the G-Power was better than going for AC Delco.
I'm sorry, bro,I haven't had the appetite for Corvette related items over the past few months,I've just had a very bumpy ride in my 07 C6 ZO6,I was driving it to get it serviced early September when the dreaded bonging sound, accompanied by the equally dreaded "reduced engine power" warning came up in the driver information display,it started but misfired badly then cut out and was acting like the battery was faulty.I rang my 'local' specialist up and he recovered it on his low loader, after fitting a new battery all seemed well until he tried it a few days later and the problem reappeared, the car ended up at the original importer specialist on the low loader where after many days they've now fitted a new E.C.M. after finding the old one corrupted. The only mods carried out are headers and 'sports' cats,it's very low milage and I look after it very well, needless to say I'm a bit jaded with Corvettes at the moment!✌😦
Hey, Chris are you going with any heat shield sleeves??? I just did mine but not sure if I really need a heat sleeve or not.
One recommendation from my drag racing days. Once you pull off a old cable, cut it and save the boot that goes over the plug. Once you break the plug free slide that boot over the plug , it makes it much easier to screw the plug on or off by hand. It also gives you more room from hot exhaust , if you need to pull plugs while it's still hot. ( like at track) I also use a bit of neversieze on plug threads if they are going to stay in for a while. I also recommend a tab of dielectric grease on the plug to wire connections. Hope it helps !!
No, that’s why I use the wires with the ceramic heads.
@@mycorvettelife got it, thanks
The very first thing I do when preparing to work on either of my 2 c5 corvettes is put the fender covers over the fenders.
I'm was actually looking for a video that would show a beginner how to do this
.
Hey Chris great video. Have you ever done a video on replacing the front/rear tire rods, not just the outers?
No
@@mycorvettelife Got it. Well thanks for all the other vids. They have helped me on several occasions.
My next upgrade will be ACCEL. I have the original spark plugs like at Auto Zone 😢 lol 😂
What part number are you using? Not finding a listing that works with the C5. However I do have the C5 Z06
My wires were so hard to get off I destroyed 4 of them. It's like they were welded on. Some dielectric grease on the rubber and on the threads some anti-seize made everything much easier.
Had watched this video awhile back. Getting ready to change plugs and wires on my 03 so watched again. Some of the other videos I have watched it looks like it could be a real bear. You didn’t seem to have much trouble. Is there any hints to making it easier. Another good video by the way.
Have the right tools.
Chris did you put a drop of oil or anti sleeze on the new plugs before intalling? I haven't done mine yet. Thx
No. I never have and have never had any issue. Just don’t over tighten.
After watching a few more of your videos after this one, i see there was a problem at the dyno and you thought maybe something with the spark plugs was the problem. Well, after trying to get the same cables you installed, I think you installed the wrong cables for that year C5. When I try to get the same cables you installed it says they don't fit my 2000 C5. They say the ones that fit have a straight boot end type. I don't know if they are the same, or if the 135 degree angle makes a difference in performance, but maybe that is why there was a problem with your car after installing these.
You gotta watch out with those universal, I've been known to snap them
Oh hell no 😚 I see why my mechanic is charging me $185 to change my plugs 👀😜
Just a quick question. Why not a little anti-seize on the threads when installing? Great video series Chris 😄
You can. I never have on any of my vehicles and I’ve never had a problem.
Never had a problem? The first plug removed almost snapped your ratchet
plugs should be a tan color if the engine is running good, black plugs means that its burning excessive oil....im pretty sure
It means it’s rich. It’s tuned slightly rich on purpose.
Does anyone have the PN for the ceramic Accel wires?
i don't understand how you're using the 135 degree spark plug boot end type.. i'm trying to order these but it only gives the option for straight ends for the C5, it says those that you installed are for later version corvette.. i'm trying to ask the company so I can get the correct cables.
Did you check the gap on the plugs before you installed them?
Yes
Do you have the model# for those spark plug wires. Love them. Want to get for my 03zo6 thanks.
110-9070C
@@mycorvettelife thanks
Do you know where you purchased them at I only find the ls3/ls7 applications no ls1
They are the same for all LS.
Are these ls3 plugs? I noticed my c5 wires are straight and the ceramic straight ones rubbed on my headers and i read that when changing headers to buy the ls3 plugs with the 135 bend. Is that what u did here?
Plug wires for all LS are the same as far as I know.
Man I know this is years later , but is there a link on the spark plug wires ?
I can’t find which ones , I don’t wanna get any that are too short or anything cause I do see some with shorter wire
I would have thought you did the spark plugs back when the headers were off!
Headers haven’t been off in 2 years.
@@mycorvettelife as few miles as you put on the car I figured they’d still be good 2 years later.
What year is this a Vette ?
I enjoy your videos could you focus your camera a little better. 👍
This is actually for those who are far more advanced than myself
Your car is running rich, may want to go with a hotter plug next time you change them. Plugs should be a nice tan color.
What about GAP??
These plugs are pre-gapped.
Dude those plugs lookin pretty spent for only having 15000 miles on them
These wires makes too much problem.. there is AC delco wires more expensive than this one .
