When she did songs and stories with him she sang an another vers she wrote for this song. That she wrote just for therapy for herself.
I love this performance and reaction. Garth asked Kelly to sing for him at the Honors. She chose this song because she loved it when she was young, but it took so much more meaning after her divorce. It helped her see the positive. They spoke about this song on her talk show. By the way, Trisha has said that Kelly is like a younger sister.

Kelly actually originally has a lot of classical and musical theatre training before american idol. Her roots are excellent training, and as she's aged, she has seeked more training. She has always worked hard on her craft to improve. She is VERY well trained.

Yeah I saw an interview where they asked her about that because typically a lot of artists as they age their voices are weakened and get lost. But she said my job is to be a vocalist I work on that craft all the time it's not something I'll ever stop or everything that I'm perfect at I continue to learn and work and danged if it doesn't show she just did Miley Cyrus's I used to be young and holy crap

This was from the 2020 Kennedy Center Honors. Along with Garth Brooks, Joan Baez the folk singer, Midor the violinist, The Great Actor Dick Van Dyke, and the woman that can do it all Debbie Allen. This was the first show to be done outside in the summer of 2021.
my cousins wife died in a car accident , this had been one of their favorite songs, their children 7 and 8 stood and sang this at the funeral with Garth's track. we all broke down, there weren't enough tissues in the world.

If you think about it. This song might have a much more powerful meaning to Kelly as well. With all of her personsl issues, I can only imagine how much extra of her heart and soul she puts in this version. That doesn’t even include who she is singing this for. I LOVE Kelly. Not just her voice, who she is as a person.

Garth is an emotional cat, I like that about him. Kelly Clarkson has a unique way of delivering a song. It's almost like she's not performing, like she's from an alternate reality where people break into song in everyday life.
I don't know if anyone else has already suggested it, but you should really check out her performance with Teddy Swims and they are singing Lose Control. It's awesome! I know you've already listened to Teddy singing the song by himself but Kelly really adds another layer! ❤

This is my favorite Garth song, with "If Tomorrow Never Comes" a close second. The lyrics are so simple, yet so powerfully true. Garth is a legend and was one of the main forces that lifted country music into mainstream popularity back in the 80s/90s. Of course, Kelly is Kelly. Love her. Great reaction and loved your insight about recognizing folks when they're still around to appreciate it.❤

Kelly is one of the great ‘pure’ voices out there. And I’ll tell you who else has that kinda pure voice…the woman sitting beside Garth Brooks, his wife Trisha Yearwood (I put her in the same class as Kelly and that’s saying something). I don’t think you’ve ever reacted to her but I recommend you add her to the ‘to do’ list. ‘Walkaway Joe’ (spot the then unknown actor in the video in this one), and ‘Georgia Rain’ are two I think you’d like. ‘Hearts in Armor’ displays that from-the-heart quality she has - you’ll love that one too. I guarantee it. 😉
Its great to see that most artists at some point do a tribute to an inspiration... garth even had the honor of writing a tribute to his inspiration and friendship with chris ledoux... it would be amazing to see your reaction to chris whether its from his beginnings as more of a story teller to his harder hitting "call of the wild" or "hooked on an 8 second ride" to the slower "just look at you girl"...
Let’s just say training only molds what is already there. Yes, Kelly had training to explore what she could do with the gifts given her, but the gifts WERE given.

The people who are being honored never know who is going to be performing for them. The Kennedy Center always keeps it a secret! Kelly is really good friends with Garth and Trisha... and you would think that would make it easier for Garth to have Kelly sing for him, but he said it's tougher because you feel the sincerity even more. Kelly said she was just trying not to throw up! Garth has been one of her favorites since she was little... she said I just can't believe my life! LOL!

This was during the Kennedy Center honors, in my amazing city of Washington DC.. during the middle of the pandemic when lockdown was still happening- he'd won the honors, and she performed on the Kennedy Center's outdoor stage- so its meaningful in SO many ways. and they are besties.......
Kelly always sings something that she is truly moved by and that is what makes her special. This is one of my favorite Garth Briooks songs. It deals with love that may not have worked out but it left a good mark . Garth has written some of the most amazing songs but to have Kelly Clarkson kill it like that, not sure if he can sing it again. People will say great job, Garth, but you're no Kelly Clarkson, lol. She is a very special person. You can't sing like that unless it is from the heart.

It is my understanding that Kelly Clarkson may have some classical training...in Opera, I believe. Regardless, her talent is unassailable. I think she is quite possibly the best singer of her generation.
