I still, to this day, don’t understand how he doesn’t have an Oscar. His portrayal of Gollum and Caesar were *INCREDIBLE.*
he did receive a BAFTA for Outstanding Contribution to British Cinema. The academy should get their heads out of their ***** and recognize him for what he has done for the movie industry
His performance, in anything he does, is so underestimated, his ability, is undeniable brilliance
because neither hobbits or monkeys, can get an Oscar. its so obvious dude 😁.
I'm sure his day is coming. He gave more life to those characters than just the motion capture.
They should introduce a category for performance capture/voice role
He has been THE pioneer for motion capture acting, IMO he's among the most revolutionary and important actors of all time. Shame on the academy for never embracing technology.

@I J Andy Serkis' performance as Gollum helped popularise performance capture, showing the world what it can do and how lifelike it can be. That doesn't mean that he's the first, or that there aren't other people who deserve credit, but Andy's contribution to motion capture cannot be overstated.
I think you're placing too much importance on academy awards. They mean very little in terms of artistic merits and are mostly politically driven. That said, the LOTR trilogy deserved every award it got.

I always wonder what Tolkien would have thought of his performance of Gollum. I Imagine he would have been blown away that someone could actually bring this character to life in such a vibrant way.
If his family was any indication he probably would have despised it despite it being genius and revolutionary.

Andy Serkis is at Jim Carey levels of physical acting and Tom Hanks levels of character acting. He's captivating whether you're seeing his face or a capture of his face.
Besides just being a good actor in his own right, the guy is a pioneer in terms of what he's contributed to the advancement and understanding of motion capture being more than just visual effects but also actually being a full acting, nuanced performance in itself. Revolutionary, man.
His performance as gollum is really a masterpiece

Watching it in the cinema, it was the first time ever that I was convinced that a CGI character was real. His acting was so brilliant, it made Golum real and truly iconic.

whoever tries to play gollum in the tv series (if not andy himself) is going to have a real tough time living up to his version. his gollum IS gollum.
Saw him at a convention and he's so down to earth. And he's so knowledgeable in what he does about mocap as a form of acting.

You rarely see his face, but if you notice, studios are quite proud to make sure you know Serkis is in their movie. It's almost like they point& say "See? We got Andy Serkis! And I admit, I've gone to a few movies just because he's in them.

I don't want spread things on hearsay, but the few I have known that observed him in person said he can be a really difficult person. I certainly hope that's not true, or at least not more true than any big name actor, but it is odd that a few people have mentioned that to me.

Ages ago, before Lord of the Rings as a struggling actor, he was my friend's flatmate in London. My friend told me he was really nice and fun guy, and even back then he would do voices including the one that eventually became Gollum's.

Crazy, right? Ian McKellen's first scene as Gandalf was fighting the Balrog on the bridge. Literally his first day and he has to act against something he has never seen or heard of and has no idea what it looks like.

I loved Jordan but this guy as claw was the largest burst of excitement in black panther. He's easily my favorite mcu villain. Tremendous actor that elevates every scene that he's in.

Since the title said "Most iconic characters," I was really not expecting that movie to show up. Like, I love that movie, but it was really just kind of a fluff piece, especially as far as his character was concerned!
His character was very humorous. And well dressed!!
His narration of the Hobbit and LOTR audiobooks is also fantastic! I'm currently listening to them for the second time through on Audible.
He did the audio books? Man i may have to listen. Only ever seen the movies
@@FoxGoesSquee Yeah, there's a couple versions out there, but his are just amazing. He does his own take on each character's voice, for the most part, and his Gollum in the audiobooks is EVEN BETTER than in the movies!
I just started listening to them a few days ago, on the Fellowship, they just got to Rivendell. Remember reading up to halfway through two towers about ten years, I'm surprised how much is different already. But it makes sense, I don't think most fans would want a 6 or 7 hr movie, although I could be wrong.
When I started listening to the audiobooks, I told my daughter, "If he doesn't do Gollum's voice, I'm turning it off!“ Lol. He did a fantastic job of giving each character their voices too.

The best part of the Mount Doom scene Andy Serkis did at the very beginning of the shoot was that they did an early rehearsal it at Peter Jackson's house. Andy crawled up and down Peter's stairs. There's footage of it in the bonus features for the films. XD

Great actor. Just him explaining his characterisation process shows he has a true dedication to his craft, which is really inspiring, not just for actors but for anyone.

13 going on 30 is a nice funny rom com. I feel like those usually get overlooked because of cheesy they can be but I really enjoyed it
@@joshuawhite6877 Planet of the Apes is one of the few modern franchises that actually told a cohesive, thought out story, with real consequences for actions and decisions. It belongs in the same category as LotR, Harry Potter, and Nolan's Batman trilogy, for that reason alone. On top of that, they're some of the most visually and emotionally engaging mainstream movies I've watched in years, carried of course by Serkis' Caesar.
I usually don't find big Hollywood productions to be anything more than mediocre, because they insist on cutting out any substance, in favor of mass market appeal. Planet of the Apes managed to appeal to the common movie viewer while still having substance and depth. Even with the succes it had, I'd still say it's criminally under rated, since no one watched and though "hey, _I_ could make a blockbuster with wide appeal _and_ artistic value!"

After watching all the behind-the-scenes of the LOTR and Hobbit films, I have such a great appreciation for this man - this just built on that. What an incredibly talented person.
the amount of effort he puts into his acting is surreal. One of the few actors who goes out and lives/researches other things to get inspiration for his roles. He obviously takes his job very seriously. And that's amazing to me.
Will always remember seeing him as Richard in 13 Going on 30, such a great actor, perfect casting!

I was first introduced to this man in Age of Ultron and then in Black Panther, so I googled him because I was amazed at this Afrikaans man in Holywood.. Imagine my surprise when I found out that not only is he not South African (that is how good his accent was) but he has been in a lot of my favourite movies, playing my favourite characters.. What a gem!!

The Bilbo meets Gollum part of Hobbit is probably one of the few good parts with that trilogy.

Definitely Andy brought Gollum to life and his performance was a masterpiece. It's a difficult role and he created an epic character that'll remain there forever. I always see Gollum when I see him. A true superstar. Definitely love his voice and he is 3rd on the all time best vocal artist after Mark Hamill & Kevin Conroy.
With age, Andy came to look like Kenneth Branagh's twin brother.

I wish he would have discussed playing Ian Brady in "Longford". I was fortunate enough to catch that a few years ago, and I was enthralled. I think he was on screen less than ten minutes, but his performance was chilling.

Andy is one of my faves. He's incredibly talented, and his roles are hypnotic and memorable.
One of the best interview, sharing the vast range of his talent in the most articulate way possible without much of bragging or making things up and still he has more in the basket than he has shared. Great actor!
Andy Serkis is one of just a handful of actors who can really play a wide range of characters and you believe he is the character, everytime. And the character doesn´t even need to be human. One of the best actors of all time.

I honestly can't think of an actor who has played in more major franchises or more iconic roles than this man. And he's so good on top of it.
I remembered watching Einstein and Eddington as a child, and I watched it again last year. That and Gollum is what I will always remember him for.
Andy is just an amazing actor, absolutely amazing!
