- Caterham Valley - grew from a small village to a railway town during the 19th century. A mixed set of properties, many long gone. Join me as I walk from the site of an old hospital to the centre of town.

Thanks so much for your work Phil. Croydon Rd was home for me from 60's to 90's. A memory in every step you took mate. Lovely to see as an expat. So green and beautiful too. Looking forward to the next episode of the other part of the road. Up the Palace!
Funnily enough had a dream about the old 'Commonwealth' pub last night!
Glad you liked it! 😊
I'm Well chuffed that you've done another video 🎉
Thanks!
I lived in Farningham Rd for some years. Now in Tasmania. Interesting to see this. Thanks
All ran to G’day land
" Hobart Tasmania, that's my wonderful townnnnnnn " 😊
Speaking to the Dunwoodys team , the history of their site is understood to have been a dairy for some considerable time .
The blue building @2.20 used to be u2 body panels. That one is quite unique with the white bricks which im pretty sure were sourced from devon
Thanks Geoff!
you're very lucky that someone did that book-i wish someone had in my local town
Very lucky indeed, Gareth. The Bourne Society and their team are wonderful. A local resident’s group did one for Selsdon, South Croydon. It takes a lot of research but is well worth it. Local History groups are great organisations 👍🏻
Thanks again for a very interesting walk and talk. No the area well, my wife comes from the area, and my cousins lived a while in Caterham valley
I Walked There With The Scouts ! ( 24th Purley Group ! 60 Years Pius !😊
I remember doing the St George’s Day parade - was that it, Adrian? I remember being at the front with the flag!
Great to see the eye sore that was Rose And Young garage has finally been removed. Never ventured to Caterham as a kid as no buses!
Nice to see my accountants are still there :)
Great video.
It was a nice building design but that doesn’t count for much nowadays. Cheers mate 👍🏻
I Worked For The M.O.D ! Then Went To R.N Ships ! Great Times !😊
My mum was born in Caterham on the hill in the original ninehams cottage which was demolished a while ago, six children in a two bedroom cottage, i don't know how they managed
Regarding Rose and Young - My sister worked as a receptionist there in the 80’s . Ronnie Corbett of ‘The two Ronnies’ (and much more) was a frequent customer apparently.
One final comment … Speaking to an older gentleman a while back and he said a WW2 German bomb landed on or near the valley high street area and blew most of the shop windows clean out onto the road . There was quite a clean up operation that followed apparently. Not sure if you have found information to qualify that during your research ?
There’s a lot of research going on currently to build a WW2 bomb map by Surrey History Centre, I’m sure it will include Caterham
The cinerma the capital. The
