    Something significant. The LUMI Keyboard is one of the only 7/8th-sized synth-keyboards that may have ever been made (as far as i know). There are female Classical pianists and male pianists with small hands that have spent A LOT of money to have their grand pianos keys replaced with special 7/8th-sized keyboards. (7/8ths meaning 8 white keys are shrunk into the length of seven keys on a normal piano or keyboard. This lets one play octaves and 9th's easier. Less stress on the tendons). As a music theorist, keyboard reformist and color-theorist am shocked that LUMI is not advertising this fact. Not only that, but they keys are actually in sync with some historical usages of sound and color. For example, Bach and Beethoven's "Pastoral Symhponys" are in the F (Think Soylent Green, 1973). Pastorals as F and F# are a green, country-side music which goes back to Baroque times. Or, for a modern example, love songs are always gravitate to C (take Lionel Richie songs in general, or even more unusual takes on love songs like the Eurythmic's "Love is a Stranger," or The Cure's "Love Song," which is in A-minor---the relative minor of C). These songs are in red (relatively). Same as LUMI's C-note. I don't think LUMI actually understands the significance of what they've actually created. What they've done is astounding. Even further, you are receiving the sound as light, not just a painted color on a key. This is also significant concerning color therapy and color psychology (which is a whole other story in itself). I am in the process of uploading my work to CZcams and an readers can find more of my examples on The Acoustic Rabbit Hole channel, if interested). I whole-heartedly pray for the success of this keyboard. Thank you, LUMI --- frank montoya, Bent, New Mexico, 2021

    Thanks for the video. Mine was delivered yesterday. And yes, I remember way back when you didn't like LUMI. Well, times have changed. I tried the Seaboard Block a year or so ago, but it was a little too squishy for me. The fact that this is more keyboard like will help. I'm still trying to figure out the "lift" gesture. Over all, I love it.

    Well I ordered one , the reason being is that I own the pad block and seaboard and let me tell ya as a traveling student and artist the seaboard is to expressive sometimes. But the lumi seems more controlled. i believe this is a good product for specifically music production students as it gives way more useful things that a beginner would not need or think of. Another pro is that the rolis really compliment Native instrument s series. Many times Im using one hand on the seaboard and another on my s49. Great video btw

    • @ToboSebas
      @ToboSebas Před rokem

      Hi! I was wondering what your opinion is about the Lumi after a year of using? How is the pitch bend per key? Does it work well with Vst's other than Native's (i.e. Omnisphere)? It's mostly that feature that got my interest but I hear that the compatibility ain't that well.

  • @alexjennings3165
    @alexjennings3165 Před 3 lety +104

    The Roli products are just too expensive. I think it’s good for someone who needs the aesthetics, like a CZcams content creator. But for most people, the amount of money spent on a Lumi would be better off split up between 2 or 3 different products. You could get an Arturia MiniLab and an Akai MPD218, then still have money left to go out to dinner.

    • @Taetro
      @Taetro  Před 3 lety +24

      @@chuecoxx I think it's hard to argue about the price when there are no competitors. If you showed me another keyboard with the exact same features, for a more affordable price, I would agree.

    Hejhej, thanks for the video - as usual.
    First thing; I'd really like to know how the build quality is and holds up over time with this "studio edition"! A friend of mine and I kickstared the "original" LUMI and our keyboards does feel pretty cheap and have started to fall apart. Sadly, because otherwise I do like the ROLI Blocks and the LUMI and its learning ecosystem quit a bit (since I'm a beginner).
    And another Problem; While using my Seaboard block in Ableton with the Equator as a Instrument/plugin I can't get the Seaboard to play multiple notes at the same time. Pushing a note always cuts of the note I touched before (which I'm still bending). Always wanted to ask you this in one of your livestreams, but you haven't used ROLI stuff in the last ones I was able to watch. Do you have encountered similar problems before? (sorry if that's a dumb question, still learning everything Ableton and music related)
    Thanks again for all of you videos and livestreams, keep up the amazing work, I'm a huge fan. :-)

    Hiiiiii, does Lumi have a function to light up the buttons related to specific scale? In order to light up a specific scale and improvise on that scale without knowing it. Thanks
    Can I stay below 1k €/$ for set it at 88 keys?

    A 3 octave coverage would have been handy and useful for non-stage practice.

    How is the pitch bend when it comes to repeating a riff, is it all over the place? Also wondering how hard the velocity is to control with that short key travel?

    Can it display incoming midi notes (e.g. from a sequencer or from another midi controller) by lighting up the corresponding keys? One guy in another comment said so, but can't find this info in the device manual....

      I would agree with you, but there are no other keyboards that have the same features so with no competition it’s hard to say it should be cheaper.

    It's a bigger version of the Roli blocks line - oriented toward laptop musicians rather than instrumentalists. A better MPE keyboard for instrumentalists is the Osmose by Expressive E.
