Only acceptable Home Alone 3 - Kevin's Revenge.
Marv and Harry have aged and are living together. They have given up the life of crime. One Christmas, they start recieving strange threatening letters. They start noticing little dangerous traps around the house - poisoned toothpaste, nails in carpets. Not fatal, but painful. They realize, Kevin is coming after them for tramuatizing him as a child. Mrs. McCallister, still Kevin's guardian, is trying to find him and stop him from hurting these old
men. Harry and Marv must booby-trap their house to protect themselves from Kevin, who has his own traps set for them.
    Home Alone 3: Kevin's Revenge. Hard R-rating.

Rise of the guardians is probably my favourite "christmas" movie

  • @lancedement40
    @lancedement40 Před 2 lety +18

Although it may have become super overused and ran constantly these past few years around Christmas, my go to movie has to always be A Christmas Story. Just something about the simple yet cozy nature of the film always brings me joy. Its a super simple story, with somewhat simple characters, but its so effective in my opinion. Practically anyone can relate to at least one of the characters in the movie, and that's something that can sadly be hard to come by in movies nowadays. I really believe this was a family home, and a moment in time for a young boy (the author) just recounting the memory about his favorite Christmas present.
I also found out recently (s/o to Nostalgia Critic) that the author Jean Shepherd voiced older Ralphie in the movie! It makes total sense now and is so inspiring to me as an avid writer and wannabe author of my own someday. It was awesome to hear this info going back and watching the movie now, hearing the excitement, dread, puzzling questions, etc. from the man most passionate about the story, because it's HIS story. It must have been so fun and exciting to do that and makes me wish more movies were done like this from writers of books-turned-movies.
Thank you for the review Jeremy, I always love hearing your opinions on anything you deem worthy of a video. Merry Christmas brother

Regarding Home Alone, my favorite moment is from Kevin entering the church to him racing home (a great John Williams music cue) to booby trap his house. If I catch just that one ten minute block of the movie, I'm happy as it contains the heart of the movie. The slapstick at the end never did it for me because of the editing. Comic scenes that would work better in a single shot lose its humor when broken into several different shots.

My dude, do yourself a good Christmas movie with a powerful message: Joyeux Noel. It's an epic war drama depicting the famous Christmas Truce of 1914. The story is told through the eyes of Scottish, French, and German soldiers in this amazing period of history and though it doesn't end on a particularly happy note, you do walk away with a stronger appreciation for the humanity to be found in men in one of the worst and darkest periods of our history as well as a newfound appreciation for the spirit of Christmas. You don't even need to do a review, just watch it man, you owe it to yourself after this...

      Better home alone Movie.
Kid let say 10 years old is rich and a super Genius. His dad works at a Mega security company. The kid like to read up on old traps for home invasions and makes models for a Hobby. The kid lost his mom last Christmas and his dad doesn't know how to landed it. To busy work and the knew change. The kid who wants to get his dad attention. Pulls pranks on the nanny and maid service. (These are mostly harmless ones but annoying) The dad and the kid get to a huge fight before the dad leaves to New York for a business meeting. He said he be back for Christmas and hopes his son would learn some responsibility by the time he gets back. The nanny and maid service are paid more to watch him. All though they are mad they have to deal with annoying prankster boy for few days instead of spending time with their family few days before Christmas. The boy has a plan. He gets a extra stash of money and pays them to leave early to spend with their families. The Nanny thinks it over "Well the boy is in a good neighborhood and has the best house security in the country. He should be find for few days. Plus if we stay he will pull more pranks on us". They leave and go with their families. They don't tell the dad being afraid they get fired. The boy plays around in the house. Meanwhile outside the house a block down. A man is watching the house in a van. Another guy comes to the door. "Hay Bill I'm sorry I am late."
Bill: Whatever Darvin, did you read my email.
Darvin: Yeah...well some...the first sentence to meet here.
Bill: ( growd) ok. This is the plan. I going to hack the house main security with the codes I got. It should take 48 hours to be completed. Than we will make our way in the house. Once inside we make it to the vault in his home office.
Darvin: And we become super rich with all his money inside.
Bill: No dummy the money just a bonus. Its the new AI security system I want. With that we could break into any place. We be Unstoppable. That what Jackson (the dad) gets for firing me. I was one of his top computer programmers. But he says I'm greedy and power hungry. Can believe that guy.
      Darvin. Yes, Yes I can.
Bill: Just shut up and watch the house. I'm going take a nap.
Inside the house the boy let name Ryan. Starts noticing the house network and appliances isn't working properly. He finds out someone is jamming the system. He starts using his own computer to find the source. He traces the singal outside. Right where the van is. Using binoculars he says a guy in van on his phone. Ryan goes outside and speaks up on the van.
Darvin on the phone: Yeah baby, I'm telling you I'm going to have the money this time. Yep we going rob this big CEO of this security company's house. No, no. It's not like that. My old college roommate. You know the one who help me stay in until I drop out. Yeah he knows the network the Big CEO guys using. Going to go in on Christmas eve night. You have nothing to worry about. Going get your bail money. You shouldn't be in jail in first place. All you did was set your boss car on fire, mean come on.
Ryan: I should call the police. No these guys probably tap the police station too. They will bail the second the call made. I have to do what Dad told me. To take up responsibility. Time to stop these robbers myself.
And from here you know how it goes. Montage of billing traps. The two guys get hit by the traps and we laugh. Cops come at the last second to arrest. Bill swears his revenge. Devin something funny and dumb. We laugh. Dad comes home. Proud of son. Promises be there more for him. Son promise to be better. Happy Christmas the end.
      Better movie right.

The big problem I have with this movie is that the "villains", Pam and Jeff are too sympathetic... and the main "protagonist", Max, is not relatable enough for us to be rooting for him. Pam and Jeff only want their doll back, which they need in order to sell it for money just so that their kids will have a place to live... as a result, I find it hard to laugh at them when they are suffering through Max's traps, since I feel like they weren't as deserving of the pain and torture they got compared to the Wet Bandits or the terrorists or any other villains from previous Home Alone movies. We spend so much more time with the McKenzies, resulting in Max being a character with basically no character development whatsoever, making him bland throughout the whole film. I guess Disney wanted to make the message of the film to be more about "family", but the fact that we had to watch two parents that just wanted to save their house get tortured makes it feel like the message got half-assed and lost somewhere along the line...

If they really want to make a "good" nostalgic Home Alone movie, they need to bring Macaulay Culkin back to play the dad. Have him be extra careful when leaving for the airport and getting on the plane to go where they're going on vacation and have him almost leave his one kid behind, but end up getting him last moment and maybe during the plane ride, tell his son the story of what happened to him in the original and inform him that he would never let the same thing happen to his kid, blah blah blah.
Then brief vacation montages, then heading home in a rush, and end up leaving the kid wherever they vacationed to. The vacation would take place right before Christmas with the idea of getting home in time for Christmas.
Have hints in the background about a bad snow storm heading to the area. TV, word of mouth, etc.
During the vacation, the kid remembers something about the mall, or something at the mall, not sure, but he ends up at this large place, but they close up for the night and he gets locked inside for the night of Christmas eve.
Bad snow storm comes in, phone lines go down. Kid is now trapped inside the mall, and a group of criminals break into said mall. Instead of two idiots, now you're dealing with a squad of goons. But get this, Kevin's kid (or maybe kids, as in twins? Possibly?) are not completely alone in the mall. There's two security guards on duty that night that also get stuck in the mall for the night. And it's a couple of old guys that are none other than Harold Lime and Marvin Merchants. Because of the line of bad luck being criminals all those years ago, they decided to go straight, but couldn't get any Job other than overnight security at this random mall. So instead of being the bad guys, they help Kevin's kid(s) survive the night by watching the cameras and communicating with the kids and so forth on how to get around the mall and set traps.
Then have them react in some funny way at the end when they find out those were Kevin's kids when reunited with him.
That's the Home Alone movie I would watch! Lol.

My personal favorite christmas movie is Bob Clark's magnum opus A Christmas Story, a film filled with so much nostalgia, humour and heart that it's become a staple for many others and i. A close second is A Charlie Brown christmas with it's Jazzy soundtrack and again wholesome message.

@@ryansmith-jr4gn I was young enough at the time to probably enjoy the film, but old enough to acquire a taste for other genres of film primarily indie and studio horror/exploitation films wwith a sprinkling of Art house and foreign market thus it simply didn't register on my radar. I will check it out though to see if it holds up.

    "HARRY, I'VE REACHED THE TOP!"
THAT is one of my favorite scenes of all time. Anyone trying too hard to re-create that hilarity of a slap-stick home-invasion movie just gets a shake of the head from me. -_-

To be honest, most of this movie really missed the mark for me too, especially speeding past the proper emotional development that made the first few Home Alones classics, and its comedy is far from as funny as it thinks it is. But I have to admit the concept of rooting for the bandits was actually fascinatingly new, and the ending where the kid and the intruders were able to forgive and help one another actually put me in a good mood. I still don't overall recommend it, but I think it's much better than the last two direct-to-DVD films at least.

2:00 - 2:46 You know Jeremy, you might want to try 2016's "Better Watch Out" if you haven't watched it yet. Not one to one with your description, but would definitely be up that alley. It is also a Christmas type movie.

Kid comes back from store and finds thieves looking for MacGuffin in house. Kid can't prep traps but must improvise and go thru vents like Solid Snake.
