#Beetlejuice - Zábava
Pretty ridiculous there aren't any special features or commentaries for this release. The movie definitely deserves some bonus features.
I agree somewhat, but the inclusion of the cartoon series episodes is pretty neat. Still, I'm a sucker for behind the scenes content.
I got the 20th Anniversary of Rocketman and it was barebones, just the movie. These types of releases are a slap to the face for collectors.
you can say that again
You know which movie would be a lot of fun like this in 4K? Mars Attacks!
Great fun film, but it would really suffer with 4K exposing the low-res CGI effects work.
BlueCrayon77 as the entire movie is a satire upon itself, I would be ok with that.
I was obsessed with Mars attacks when I was probably about 5 years old or younger. Obviously never realized it was satire. I just loved watching the cool aliens destroy people lol
That's part of the fun, seeing effects joins, film grain in various scenes that reveals film speed/quality, and the marvels they were able to accomplish! "Spaceballs" is a good example of this and the newfound issues don't detract. Heck, Star Wars original trilogy in 4k reveals stuff not seen before and I love it all the more.
Like when Dark Helmet bangs the ship and the door slams on his head. Before one couldn't see the tiny dent from where one might guess that they had to do a retake. Might have been seen on the big screen back then, but not home video very clearly until now. 😁
I'm fairly new to your channel and I would like to thank you for introducing me to the fact there is a physical media community! I am often mocked for my need to get the disk instead of just buying the digital copy so it is awesome to known I am not alone in having the preference of a physical media library!
There are dozens of us!
@@JeffRauseo Yes there are!! I’m a proud member of that community as well.
I like streaming but the best bandwidth still doesn't match and any congestion degrades picture quality to where the old CRT didn't look as bad. Add in availability and despite advances it'll be some time before it really takes over. But part of me likes the convenience factor. Except for really good titles. It's like when laserdisc was the premiere video format (niche) when most people did vhs or simply broadcast.
We need Edward scissorshands next on 4K!
It's probably not going to happen as it's 20th Century Fox, now owned by Disney, who as you may know won't be releasing anymore catalog live action films.
GuitarGuy5000000000 I heard that was officially debunked by a Disney statement to Forbes
@@an64p4nt5 That statement only said they will continue to release 4K physical media. They did not confirm or deny that they won't release catalog live action titles anymore, which is what the original leak stated. Bill Hunt and Jeff here both reported it from separate sources so I believe it's true and Disney just doesn't want to formally announce it yet.
@@GuitarGuy5000000000 this didn't age well.
@@NYC_Goody Aside from Speed (which was restored and slated for release before the news), what catalog live action films have been released by Disney/20th Century? None as far as I recall, but I'm all ears if you can tell me otherwise.
The 4K transfer looked pretty good. I think Beetlejuice is really just as classic and iconic a film as 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Shining though. I personally think it's Tim Burton's best film.
That and Edward scissor hands
This is one of my all-time favorites, I was nervous the 4k might not be so great. Glad to hear they put the work in!
This is one that I could see benefiting from a 4k release. And It appears so.
I'm really excited for this! Love early Tim Burton in 4k :-)
great review man, I always like to watch your reviews before I make a purchase! Now, I REALLY can't wait to pick this one up!
Hey thanks for reviewing this one, I've been waiting all month patiently waiting release. Sounds like it's everything we hoped it would be.
I've never seen Beetlejuice so this sounds like a good time to jump in. Thanks for the review, Jeff!
intense79nick you have truly missed out on one of the funnest movies not of just of the 80’s, but of all time!
Thanks for reviewing this man, I will definitely pick this one up because it's one of my favorites!! Glad to hear you're impressed!🤙
Great review. I ordered the Amazon set. I'm hoping you get full metal jacket in the coming weeks. I'm excited for that on 4k. Already pre-ordered that as well lol
Your videos are so cool and guiding me into my 4k journey thank you 👍🏻
Another great video Jeff. This was the first Burton film I ever saw, loved it then and a big Burton fan as a result. Pre-ordered in the UK, as part of Zavvi Red Carpet getting an exclusive slipcover with the steelbook, can't wait. Cheers again Jeff, keep these great videos comin'.
great review - thanks so much. Love the enthusiasm and un-bias reviews from you. Loved the description of the atmos track too :)
Can’t wait to buy it! I always love when you mention the price range we should get the film for. I buy way more 4ks that way because of deals
That's MY Batman right there bruh.
Didn’t think there was CGI use in Beetlejuice? Green screen and practical effects, but not CGI. Could be wrong, just don’t remember it. Great review, glad to see the Beetle got some love in 4K!
No cgi. He is most likely talking about the stop motion animation that look extra grainy due to the multiple exposures to achieve the in camera effects
I'm getting the Sherlock Holmes and full metal jacket 4k special edition here in UK monday Sherlock and jacket end of month
No you aren't, it's a bank holiday!
@@colinbooth531 Amazon prime same day ???
@@scotttild it is where I live
I got the Amazon gift set version earlier this week and thought it looked amazing.
Oh, oh, I’d definitely say Beetlejuice is a classic up there with 2001!
Thank you for all you do, great review
There is no CGI in Beetlejuice.
I agee with you it is a super 4k disc just wish they had some special features not even a audio commentary.
I got my copy of this earlier than expected I agree with you on the picture quality, its excellent but the atmos track for me was poor not much going on in the surround speakers.still worth picking up tho.
Copped for $9.50 shipped. Disc only. I’m excited to watch it and show my gfs little brothers and school them on old movies and expose them to more HD content. They were even impressed with blu ray quality alone and that was cool to hear from kids still in elementary school.
curious on what 4k blue ray machine your using ???? i just ordered the Panasonic 9000.....excited to see this
I've got the 4k limited edition from hmv in the UK and to be fair it's really good.
Great review by the way 👍
You know which movie would be a lot of fun like this in 4K? both adams familys movies in 90's
I love this movie as a kid thanks for the review. Jeff I got a question for you did you take a look at the gift set? If you did, is there anything different in it as far as special features go?
Full Metal Jacket Steelbook pre-ordered and ready to go! I’ll be doing a video on it as well 👍🏼
& the Halloween triple feature reissue 🎃
I bet they scanned The Goonies in 4K years ago, and Beetlejuice is a newer 4K scan.
Pre-ordered this last week so I'm very happy to hear it's such a good 4K!
I'm curious, do you use a TV or a Projector to review these? If a TV, what are you working with?
Sounds great I will be picking this one up.
Thanks Jeff, good to know that my pre order is money well spent. The 1080p Blu that I have includes a CD of songs from the movie. Sound that good that you thought the fly was with you, that is good
Oh fantastic news. I have both Best Buy 4k Steelbooks pre-ordered and I was super worried you would report the same issues as The Goonies. I couldn't take it if you reported both were on the weak side. I have just about every release of The Goonies so I will just take what I got and hope they go back in a few years and fix it, if they can.
I'm really happy to hear this. I think I'll wait for goonies to go on sale a little bit but beetlejuice im picking up first day. I like the steelbook artwork.
Hello 🙋 new subscriber here. What tv model do you watch the 4k movies in when you review them? I have a LGC9 OLED 65" TV.
Could’ve sworn the dvd release had a music only track by danny elfman but I don’t think was ever carried over in subsequent releases
The original
Blu-ray included from other reviews say it is included.
@@Thecatdrums3 Yeah, I have the first bluray edition and it does have music only track as an option.
Hi. I'm a new subscriber and am really enjoying your videos.
Only thing I would like to ask is if you could start uploading videos in 4k please?
You concentrate a lot on 4k blu ray but only upload in 1080p.
If you uploaded videos in 4k it would be much easier to see the difference when you compare standard blu ray and 4k UHD.
Just purchased! Thanks 🙏🏽
Excellent Review My Friend!
Goonies now Beetlejuice? This is awesome! I agree. I always thought the previous Blu Ray of Beetlejuice was a horrible transfer!
I realize 2008 was 12 years ago, but blu-ray.com gave the original transfer a 4.3 score, and really had nothing but good things to say about it. I've always thought it looked pretty dang good to, especially on my OLED. Why in 2020 are people saying that it basically looked like a grainy, inconsistent bag of garbage. Of course UHD will look better, but the bluray looks very clean too!
You know I wanna keep my comments to my self but I’ve been wait for this video since I seen the beetle juice steelbook was available for pre order so thank you Jeff you are on top of it
@FilmsAtHome I can’t wait to get my copy of Beetlejuice on 4K I hope soon Warner Bros. releases Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure on 4K that’s my favorite Tim Burton movie.
I'd love to see that and Mars Attacks. Not holding my breath though.
Interestingly here in the UK we have the same release dates for Beetlejuice, The Goonies and BTTF as the US - about time with catalogue titles there's no need to delay our release date.
I just ordered it up, will be here tomorrow
Hey man love the content but would love to see a mic upgrade! Up your audio game.
Mathew Bernat I just upgraded to this lav mic and people thought it was much better
Beetlejuice is hilarious. Greay review!!😊
Thanks for your honest comments 👍
I decided to purchase it !!!
I'll definitely get it, probably put it on xmas shopping list for wife to get me.
I’ve already preordered my copy!
Does the PS5 automatically showcase HDR for 4K movies? I know it doesn’t support Dolby Vision, but when I pop this in using my 65” Sony A8H Oled, it looks like a regular blu ray. I’m also not sure what the best setting is for the tv…
If anyone can help, that’d be great !
i've been really impressed with 4k discs on my ps5. i know it doesn't support dolby vision, which is disappointing, but i've read that it is a really solid 4k player otherwise. i had to adjust the hdr settings on my tv from "bright" to "normal" (i have a tcl), and it really helped out with the image. if the hdr settings are too bright, everything looks washed out.
Come on, there's no CGI whatsoever in this movie, if you're a cinema lover you should know. ;) What you're seeing as "softer" is the typical generation loss that happens when many photographic elements are superimposed in the optical printer (with every pass, the quality goes down - that's why optical effect shots were often filmed on 70mm, it made the image decay less severe).
Yea it's clay stop motion (no CG)
I was thinking that, too. CGI in 1988? No way. Photorealistic CGI was still in it's experimental stage in The Abyss in 1989 - on a massive budgeted James Cameron film.
@@davidahmed7792 Before that, there's Young Sherlock Holmes (1985) with the glass knight, the first CGI character ever... and The Last Starfighter (1984) had CGI spaceships, and Willow (1988) had the first digital morphing; but those were isolated, expensive, revolutionary efforts. In short, when you watch any movie done before Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park, you can bet all visual effects are optical and practical.
@@catoblepag Absolutely, I'd forgotten about those films. I definitely remember seeing Young Sherlock Holmes at the cinema, but I think The Last Starfighter was a VHS rental. At nearly 50, my memory isn't what it used to be, especially stuff from my childhood.
I had the early 90's book "ILM: The Art Of Illusion" and remember those shots from the stained glass knight effect - thanks for mentioning it and reminding me.
I think I read somewhere that some form of computer generated graphics were used for the robot vision in Westworld, the 1973 film - not the recent HBO series. I was really surprised it went back that far.
@@davidahmed7792 I didn't know about Westworld, that's fascinating stuff! Even more so, if you think that it was written and directed by Michael Crichton, and it shares many plot elements with his book Jurassic Park, another seminal CGI movie.
And most people don't know that Star Wars (1977) had CGI: the death star trench simulation, in the briefing scene before the rebel assault ;) I think you can find a video with the graphic artist painstakingly drawing the trench wireframe with knobs and buttons, he didn't even have a trackball or a mouse. :D Edit: I've found that video czcams.com/video/yMeSw00n3Ac/video.html
Have you checked the included Blu-Ray disc with the Beetlejuice 4K? I read on a website that the Blu-Ray disc that is included is the exact same disc as the 2008 Blu-Ray. I would have hoped they would have put the 4K transfer on the included Blu-Ray disc. Many people don't have 4K, but buy the 4K movies to build a 4K library while watching the included Blu-Ray disc now. I was planning on buying this, but I won't if the include Blu-Ray is the 2008 Blu-Ray.
Waiting for that mars attacks 4K release.
RCRhino Good call, but the low-res nature of the CGI in that film will really be exposed by 4K
@@BlueCrayon77 Maybe they can pull of some cool tricks to make it look better??? But still a 4K release would be awesome.
Hey jeff..just some feedback for u..ur camera and microphone both sound incredible...ok take care
Thanks - I’m happy to hear that. I’ve been really working on the mic levels and clarity.
@@JeffRauseo ya it sounds top notch.
Whats your opinion on the hd dvds? Not sure if I've seen you talking about them.
Sounds similar to Batman Returns, a transformative hdr transfer. Can’t wait to pick this up, great review.
Dude batman returns looks amazing. Recently bought the 4 movie pack on 4k, and that movie looks fucking gorgeous.
The Atmos soundtrack is no slouch either.
I'm gonna go ahead and grab both goonies and Beetlejuice, and hope I can still see with the goonies on my TV lol
I do own the bluray but it looks like this is definitely worth the double dip, thanks for the Beetlejuice review!
Could you review bill and teds excellent adventure on 4K in celebration of the third film.
I don’t think you can get that in the US, only in the UK
This does not include the isolated score track like the previous blu-Ray?
Hey! Could you please do a buyer's guide for UHD players? I've been collecting 4K discs prepping for when I'll upgrade my player and TV, but I want to get a player that's the best bang for my buck. I'd love your input on what player to get.
Panasonic.
MMAReignsSupreme 5%er I‘m also prepping on 4k Blu Rays (Bought 5, and preordered 2), but i‘m gonna get a PS5 with a discdrive.
Jeff can obviously speak for himself, but if you know what features you're looking for in a UHD player that would be very helpful. Do you know what TV you're getting? Which HDR & sound formats do your 4K discs generally support? (If you don't know & can't tell from the packaging, look them up at blu-ray.com.) What sound system (i.e., AV receiver or soundbar) do you plan on using with this TV & player? (Don't expect to use your TV speakers.) There's not a lot of variation in the 4K players on the market now, but those factors make a huge difference in which player, TV, sound system, and possibly other equipment you'll need.
@@richellebrittain2127 I'm mostly just curious as to if it's worth it to invest in a massive player that supports HDR10, HRD10+, AND DolbyVision, or if just a standard HDR10 or HDR10+ will do. There's a player I'm looking into (i think it's the Sony X800) that supprts HDR10 and DolbyVision but not HDR10+, and I just don't want the HDR experience compromised on discs that run HDR10+ but not DolbyVision. No matter what, I'll be getting a player with Dolby Atmos support so sound isn't an issue
Get a used xbox one s for about 100-120. It's a super inexpensive player with more functionality than a stand alone player since you can game on it.
Excellent 4k transfer, but so disappointed with the lack of extras!
Finally gets an Australian release 3 years later lol
Best Buy has an exclusive SteelBook release if that's your jam.
Is the standard Blu Ray remastered or is it just a stamp of the rubbish transfer?
Same blu-ray from the first release
@@Thecatdrums3 bummer, thanks
Winona still looks fine today, one of the few 80s and 90s stars that i wouldn't say no too.
Got my 4K copy of Beetlejuice!!! Love it!!
Great review but your audio is really messed up. It's clipping throughout the video. You need to just drop your recording levels a bit (you can always boost without clipping afterwards using a compressor).
Still playing with that. Thanks!
@@JeffRauseo Hopefully not teaching you to suck eggs, but aim for minus 12db (average) when recording, then when you edit add compression plus a limiter to boost it back up without going overboard.
Hi
I have a question! Right now i don’t have a 4k player but im buying the PS5. Do you think that the PS5 will be a very good 4k reader or in your opinion even having a PS5 I should buy another player ?
I would hope Sony would have a good player in their new console, and I hope it’s hdr10+/Dolby Vision compatible! I’ve got a vizio m quantum and it does both formats but my LG player is only Dolby vision and hdr10
I’m holding out to see what the specs are on the 4k drive in the PS5
I’ve loved this movie since I was a kid so I’m so excited to have a proper 4k transfer!
Never seen the movie. Will give this transfer a buy for sure then
I recently purchased this & I agree better than The Goonies 4K!
I may pick this one up - I don't even have the blu-ray! BTW, I know this may be a pain to do, but when you review a disc, especially for advance releases, would you be kind enough to post the UPC number? It would make our lives easier. Well, at least mine. Thanks!
Can't wait to get the best buy steelbook
I just ordered the 4k steelbook
I just found your channel, forgive me if you get asked a lot: has 1989 Batman or the original The Crow 4k UHD? Dare I ask about the 1986 Transformers 4k UHD?
I would say that this is more than just a cult classic. It is a beloved family film.
Buying it right now
Best Buy is Releasing a 4k steelbook that looks pretty awesome.
Please, can you check if there’s Brazilian Portuguese audio and subtitles?
Just ordered. It’s $13 at Best Buy new. Also Amazon
It's very good picture but The Goonies 4k is slightly better quality
Thanks for your honesty. I was 50/50 on this one but it looks like I will be skipping the Goonies and picking Beetlejuice.
We need Natural Born Killers 4K steelbook and Tales From The Crypt Blu Ray collectors box set
Where is Fast Times?? I need it
This is one of Tim Burton's best films. His sophomore effort shows the story of a married couple (the Maitlands played with good degree by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) who die accidentally off a bridge and wind up the target for a upper-class family (including a young yet well played Winona Ryder) and a weird yet scary ghost (with the most) named Beetleguise (or Beetlejuice in a scene of laughs) played to immense complexity by Michael Keaton. Sure this plot may sound a little anti-climactic being mainly gags and not really a focused story, but so what? In a film where you see sandworms from saturn, shrimps that attach after calypso and a nut who has seen the exorcist 167 time (insert quote here), why bother with a plot. Great fun every time I watch. Reccomendable to anyone. 4kmovies co
This needed an 4K upgrade. Well done WB.
Lmao you wouldn't show it to young kids and I started watching it around 2 years old 🤣
Same actors, same characters, same story line. Holy shit, it's the same damn movie just in 4k, Thanks for making Vid to help me understand
I'd like the burbs in 4k 👌🏻
Nice to know it wasn’t just me thinking this might be the best 4k I’ve seen.
Lost Boys has to be next
Could anyone recommend me other channels similar to Films at Home? That is, focusing on reviewing 4K titles. Thanks in advance.
do you mean stop motion effects? I don't think they used cgi in this film as far as i remember. they used stop motion animation instead
Weird that Warner doesn't seem to be interested at all in extras for this film. This release ports over all of the Blu-ray extras (almost nothing) but adds nothing new. Must be some kind of contract stipulation between the studios and Burton/Keaton.
