I came to Sturgill Simpson after reading an interview with Merle Haggard,he was asked who he listens to these days,Expressing some disappointment in what Merle said passes for country music these days he said Sturgill Simpson.....He's the real deal.Thank you Merle and thank you Sturgill for keeping country real!!
@@andreichukanov4180.... Could you give me some examples of newer country acts who "dress up" ? I see more dressing down, (Big beards, t-shirts, jeans) but I'm not sure what bands you are talking about.. Look up some of those Country show from the 50s and 60s (especially the color broadcasts) Porter Wagner or Buck Owens Shows (But not Hee Haw) or Ernest Tubb's show are also good examples. I think it would be interesting for someone to bring back that visual aspect of country music performance.
@@andreichukanov4180....Ok, I see.....I u-tubed the song, (Some Days) Thanks...! I'm not that familiar with Mr Simpson...so I've now listened to some of his music. I do like how he hasn't abandoned the traditional country rhythms for the rock sound/feel...
Drei Ecken I'd gut shoot a Cub Scout for rhinestones and nudie suits in Nashville. All you see here nowadays is skinny jeans and club promoter haircuts
Saw them in Chicago. House of blues in 2013. Laurs comes on stage with a tiny tube amp with a ten inch speaker. Miced it up and beat that guitar like it owed him money.
@Beverly Davison Sure Bev, if I may call you that. One, Weirdos yes, two, good smoke, from where? Three, I wasn't judging, I was assessing. Judging is such a trendy term nowadays. That said, wish I'd seen the show. No hard feelings, or I'll will.
I feel the same way about Stu and also about Billy Strings. I guess I like bluegrass AND outlaw country now. I'm a rock guitar player and dig heavy melodic rock music for the most part, but I have always liked great playing and songwriting but these guys are off the charts. Vocal harmonies, the playing, the storytelling in the songs....epic.
I just happened to come across Sturgill Simpson a couple days ago and damn I've been left out for quite a while obviously. This is real country music right here. Better late than never man, its like christmas morning 👍👍👍✌
Same here man. I arrived due to being introduced to Billy Strings awhile ago. When I listen to this, or Billy, or even Tyler Childres, I think "Where the fuck have I been?"
Finally, country music. Awesome band, who the heck is on that telecaster,he is awesome! I love how he gets steel guitar by the slide and using the volume knob to roll off and on!
Seriously, this some of the BEST country EVER! Outlaw country vibe, real instruments and MY GOD Laur is just STUPID good. Hot pickin' with an straight, old-school tone. Man, that's just gold!
123 ppl don’t have a soul for giving this a thumbs down. This is unreal. Hear a little call to arms in there. Hope the people who were in the audience recorded this one in their brains to access later
Discovered Sturgill a couple of years ago on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and have been a fan ever since. His music just grabs you and won't let go. Simply amazing.
Travis Adamson thanks for this! I actually just found the answer myself after some digging before finding this comment. If only I would’ve scrolled down a little more I could’ve saved myself some time lol
I have never wanted to be anywhere as much as I would have wanted to be at that show that night to see Sturgill Simpson that was one hell of a show. Tom Petty has always been my Top Shelf guy. But a little late to the game I have found Country Music and gone country crazy. I think T.P. Is going to need to slide over a little on that top shelf. I’m hooked. I asked my grandson what kind of music he listened to and he said country of course.I said why of course ( he is 17 ) he said Mimi I was born and raised in N.C. The love and need for this kind of music is in your gut, heart and soul. These new young guns that are coming to the forefront are great.
Just found this guy about a month ago when somebody told me I'd like him.He just pisses me off how out of control awesome he is.Scratches me where I itch. Dammit.
this guy was under the CIA. director, i forget his name, he was a S0G, in the second war of indochina, he was trained by the department of the navy.. im telling you this Guy is bad ass!! stout as a 100 year old red oak!!!!
Tight band, truth put to music, oh my god where has this man been all my life! Don't free download these musicians we love that makes you a free loader They need to make a living to be able to keep playing
This is one of the greatest performances in ACL history

I'd add Jamey Johnson to that short list.....and Margo Price....
Cody jinx
Check out Tyler Childers and Lukas Nelson also. Definitely.worth a listen.
Iiii
Also Ward Davis. I think Merle would agree. He co-wrote Unfair Weather Friend…which Merle requested be sung at his funeral
I am 60 years old, have seen a lot of Austin City Limits, This is the best dam performance I have seen. A NEW sound.
Love it! No costumes. No rhinestones. Just flat tearin' it up!!!!!
Yep!

The guy killin it with the telle is crazy good, probably the best I've ever seen. Makes me want to throw all six of my guitars in the river.
I believe he is from Estonia. Yup, just checked. He’s Estonian.

New Balance sneakers: Sturgill gives zero fucks.
I saw this video when it first came out and I'm still looking for my face from the guitar work.
Now THAT is country music!
I just about spontaneously combusted watching this. Sturgill is the fucking man.
Now this is the shit. Oh hell ya. I'd turn on the country station if they played this.
Clinton Shepley sadly we won’t hear it on a country station just more polished pop country crap.
Country Music has returned back to earth....
Now that is some live music.
Kicking Ass in New Balance! The Giving No F&@Ks is STRONG with this Guy!!!
:)
oh hell yeah! But I thought it was Skechers. LOL
Every now and again I need to hear this song. Laur is an absolute genious!! This is by far my favorite version of this song.
Good god man. How was there not a riot after that performance
bunch of soy boy, no nuts, pussies in the crowd!! That's my guess.
Watch his Saturday night live performance Call To Arms
Ha! Saw him in Maryville, TN and is was a damned sing-a-long party!!! Good stuff man and I'm an old woman!

Two years is too long for someone to mention this man's genius.
Oh, how I agree!
I second that most definitely concur
Just getting into Sturgill but man, music like this is undeniable. Makes me wanna yell and drink well whiskey
