Try a trailing hook. Put on a second hook tied through the eyelet of the main hook and trailed back to the tail of the bait. Hook it into the tail.

Couldn't be any better what a great video . The difference between GBU and a lot of other sites is you too are very likeable and show the reality of cruising . Not all sailors are rich and living on a super yacht . It's not always sunny and smooth motion ..sometimes it's in your face , bouncy , cold and getting dark . That's real sailing .
When fermentation start you need to prevent outside air to go into the brew. A small tube into a glass of water will do. I think I have airlock if you need

My dad used to make homemade wine. And he would put a balloon over the top of the bottle with the lid off. The balloon can expand it keeps all the gas is inside the bottle.
While attending prep school in Vermont, my father and his roommate were brewing some hard apple cider in a 4 gallon glass jug. They put the cap on tight and hid the jug in the back of their closet. The jug exploded and blew a hole into the adjoining dorm room.

Matt you need to use a trailer hook with your baits. They are also called stinger hooks. Look it up, works great for short strikes!

Hi Guys. Love how you keep it real for your dogs in the budget section of the sailing world where most people reside. Used to watch the Wynns and La Vagabonde but it's too depressing seeing them both going on and on about million dollar boats that most sailors could never afford. Keep it up. Ps try hiding an extra hook right inside your bait fish at the back end where the fish are hitting. So when they bite behind the obvious hook they swallow half the bait and the sneaky hook. Then film their expression using an underwater camera when they realise what they've just done. I wonder what a panicked fish looks like

Once a day, "burp" the fermenting jug just to release the pressure. Maybe twice a day. It will allow the release but not allow foreign particles get in very easily.

Can’t wait to see how your ginger beer turns out. Reminds of my time in Vietnam when the guys tired of drinking warm beer and talked me into making wine (I’m of Italian descent and made wine with my father, grandfather and brother every year growing up). We used canned cherries and only fermented it for a week. They drank up the two gallons that night. Anyway, I never made such a small batch as you’re trying but if I doesn’t turn out good I would try using a little more yeast next time and maybe proof the yeast in warm water like you would do for baking bread. LOVE watching you make the ginger hooch ... I use to make something similar in high school , Simi pro tip, instead of putting a lid on it. Put a ballon on the top of it the gas fills the ballon.. Great video..
Matt I used to live in USVI for 8 years and during hurricane season was spent in Trinidad and Tobago. The people speak English and know how. To have fun. If you get bored the ABC's are a fun place to explore with Bonaire the best diving I ever experienced. Keep going forward and don't look back. Love your show.

To make an air lock to permit gas to escape from fermenting jug, use a small clear plastic tube. Drill hole in cap so tube is tight, slide tube through cap, tie loop in tube so water will stay in bottom of loop. As gas is created it bubbles past water seal. May have to glue tube to stay in place and upright.

Matt take it from an old sea dawg you need to put a hook near the tail of the bait fish, predators like barracuda tend to bite off the tail and come around and eat the rest of it afterwards so take some trace wire from front hook to a hook place behind Centre of bait fish, then when the big dawg hits the small bait fish you will get ‘Em hooked
My hobby is oil painting ocean scenes. Watching and listening to your video is very relaxing and inspiring. However, when I hear the word snorkeling I put my brushes down and give the screen my full attention. I'm sure it is because of all the beautiful sea life. :)

Honestly, I don’t think your luck is bad or you’re doing anything wrong as far as getting the Fish. I think you’re not going fast enough, I’ve noticed when we go “trolling” we’re going faster than that when we start getting strikes, and the only time something takes the fish (or part of it) is when we were slowing down when we got a fish on. We used to add a few raisins to our ginger beer, when the raisins rise to the top of the liquid the beer is ready. You remove the liquid and leave the dregs for the next brew, only add a little ginger for flavour.
Hey for the flats on the scooter issue, they make solid rubber tires that aren't as smooth but super reliable. Or I've had really good luck with the Armor Dilloz sealant. Lastly you can get little rechargeable mini pumps that fit in a cup holder to keep them up around the 45psi range. Good luck!

Use a stinger rig. Just a bait with the hook in front but also a trailing hook. 9times out of ten we catch them on the trailing hook.
Always leave the brew container able to burp or you blow up bottles! So glad y’all came back to la isla del encanto, and congratulations on the engagement!
