- In the final episode of the MUNCHIES Guide to Sweden, we explore the growth and popularity of New Nordic Cuisine. Our host Ivar travels across the country to meet the chefs who are influenced by defining this new culinary tradition on their own terms.
First, Ivar visits Ekstedt in Stockholm, where owner Niklas is going back to basics and cooking all his dishes with traditional Nordic techniques. He also visits Koka in Göteborg-one of the best restaurants in the country-before finishing our trip at Bastard in Malmö, where head chef Andreas Dahlberg has his own take on the New Nordic manifesto.

"You're so skinny, is this like, the beginning of the show?" GOLD.
"I mean the other restaurants I try to make money" Realist chef ever.

Never want this swedish segment to end, this guy is THE best!
All the segments that are related to cultures are great...
Slaʐyem sye sa tobom :)
***** which ones are bad?
Agree nice guy great food
+Calculate Reality yeah that's not true
"You're the skinniest guy we've had in here". LOL
Haha, I lost it when he said that!
FE NG If he was over weight, wonder if he would have said 'you're the fattest guy I've ever seen in here'
+mikeflemming711 I have a friend that's just like that and he has the exact same attitude. It's eeire how similar they are. Major difference being Ivar doesn't wear glasses.
FE NG ahahahahahhahaha hilarious 😅🤣
Lowkey roasting the host, loved it when he fired back with "I have no problem you feeding me"
I like this guy
he sure is a character
Good hiring there vice
Keukeu45 Great presenter
Ivar is probably my favorite Munchies guy after the Canadians, haha, but that's just cause those guys are always talking about booooooooze
bflet12
the Spanish girl is great too
I have to say, this Ivar guy is pretty awesome.
prince charming from shrek
This is definitely the best munchies segment. Everything about Sweden is amazing. Even the host is my favorite host yet. Hes funny and humble. More Scandinavia!!!
A very nice compliment :) I'll hand you one back! Love the name, love the game!
@@martineriksson6123 Heyyy there, a fellow Souls-head! Love your culture’s music as well as the games haha
@@BlixTheGoblin Very much so! That's very nice to hear, i am glad you do :)
Any particular genre you like more? I might be able to give some suggestions!
@@martineriksson6123 love anything metal-wise from Scandinavia. All forms and sub genres of Black, Death and Doom metal 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@BlixTheGoblin Oh nice, awesome! Not exactly sure wich metal-genre these bands belong to but at the very least it's metal haha. The haunted, one of my favourite bands from here, and Amon amarth is another great band. And we have of course Dark Tranquility. Now i know they are pretty mainstream and perhaps you've heard them but i love them alot!
I love watching the chefs watching him eat, they’re so eager to see what he thinks of their precious food. It’s lovely
I wish this episode was a whole series. It was awesome. Come on Vice, make a "Ivar's World" or something.
I'm sad to see this serie end, Ivar is such a cool guy! I don't know many Swedes, but somehow they seem like great, warm and hospitable people. Looking forward to see Ivar return for Munchies!
As an American obsessed with viking culture, I can’t wait to visit Sweden this spring
the first chef was such a chill guy, a chef that seemed welcoming and fun , very different
What a great series guys!! I enjoyed every seconds of it! Can we please have some more of this host as well, he is wonderful. Makes me want to go to Sweden and take a long walk and eat my way around the country just like he did :)
This is what Munchies is: Great series focused on interesting things w/ a unique presenter that's unpretentious and funny. Really liked this series.
hope we have more of Ivar on munchies.really enjoyed these episodes.
This was one of the best Munchies series so far. Thank you for Ivar for showing all this amazingness.
I enjoyed this series and am delighted to see it finish on a strong note. I lived in Sweden for a time as a kid, and years later, as a young Chef, I listed to family friends complaining about the restaurant scene in Stockholm, during the time California came into its own.
I now look forward to returning to Sweden, for the culinary as well as the familiar.
Please, keep sharing these videos. Blessings ChefMike
That chef wanted some of that skinny swede
O_o
Kujien I felt so too XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Kujien Lol holy shitt so trueee
The chef was swedish to you idiot😂
viktoria jensenss So? It still doesn't ruin the joke, come on, everyone else got the joke why can't you? 0.o
That was an excellent series. One of the better ones in a while, the host was charasmatic and the content was very interesting. Hope to see Ivar again!
I really liked this series, one of my favourite so far for sure. I'd like to see this host doing something else in the future.
I love when swedish people talk english in such a strong swedish accent
I just love Skadenavian or Nordic Ppl (yes, there is a diverance!)
I´m from Central Europe (Austria) myself, but the further north u go the more handsome ppl get.
Like Schleswig-Holstein to Denmark, or like here sweden, norway, island, may finland if u understand them ;)
Only diverance is GB, they are nice in there own way. But not handsome or such thing xD
Like Zlatan
We are pretty decent in terms of the words he know but our accent is horrible. Every Swede tries to hide it.
@@mohplays6428 Zlatan don’t have a swedish accent
DAMN I SAID THAT 2 YEARS AGO and yeah i noticed recently srry
Brilliant - each episode was better than the last.
Thanks a lot for this sharing of information of Swedish food especially. Thanks to Ivar & munchies! All the best to you Ivar :)
Everyone else is saying it but it need to be reiterated... Please make more with this guy. He has been fantastic. A pleasure to watch.
Never get tired of this video.
All these places look amazing.. travel & eat goals
High level on everything in Sweden really Great cuisine
give this man more shows, just great!
Please more stuff with Ivar, he's such a nice, straightforward, unpretentious guy !
Munchies is one of the best Vice series I've watched. Came here following Charlotte's series on Scotland, and this was as great as Charlotte's was..
That was really great! NEED MOAR!
Jävlar vad fint att se :)!
Lovely to see
i love this he's always so happy
thoroughly enjoyed this series! the presenter was really entertaining but yet very informative!
This will be one of my favorite restaurant . Absolutely traditional yet modern. I guarantee the food hanging above the stove is absolutely scrumptious. After all it's cooked on wood fire.
this guy is so gentle and polite
This was a great series and a great host!

I could watch this guy all day long..

I never really knew how to picture a Swedish person. Now, I'll just picture this guy. He was great.
Really great series, great commentary and absolutely love the ending!
Hosts that everyone likes are very rare. Ivar is one of them.
This series is awesome!
Definitely need some more mini series like this, thoroughly enjoyed it. KEEP THE BALL ROLLIN BABAY!

Def. adding Sweden on my list of places to visit!
Great host and excellent series!
I still don't know what the name of this guy is but he is hilarious and a pleasure to watch. Hands down one of the best hosts Vice has had for any of their videos!
Ivar you rock dude. Good job.
Thank you for the show. I've really enjoyed the presenter. Good luck to you.
LOL i love the first guy!!!!!!!!!!
"Did the show just start??"
LOL

Another great series! More of these hosted by these characters Munchies
I loved this series.
Very informative video. German living in 🇸🇪 and love it. 😊❤️
Great series
It makes me want to travel in Northern Europe countries so badly!!!
Good job, Ivar.
Awesome series, give that guy more work, great host
Very interesting and informative channel. Great job, guys
This is a good segment.
-Like the location
-People are funny but real (not too over the top)
-The food and cooking style is legit
I really dug this series and its host.
God damn, that chantarelle wrap.. I need one!
How have I not seen this channel before?!?!? Instant subscribe.
this guy is awesome, bring him back
He excited about the cheese than listenin to the woman(chef) hahaha distracted much 🤣😅😆👍🏻
I really like this video!!
We need more of this guy! I like how he demolishes each and every plate he gets. Its almost as if he lays dormant, waiting only to eat as munchies camera crew rolls around.
Chef Niklas was also on Mary Berry's show. He is delightful! I hope he does great business in all 3 of his restaurants!
this host is sooooo soooo good, keep the good work up guys, really nice episode.
I’m going to fly the 4,714 miles to eat at his restaurants this year, everything with open 🔥 This food looks amazing!!!
In case some of you are wondering what the chef means when he says "30 swedish miles" he means 300km. Sweden is actually pretty fucking big.
Thomas Williams long.. not that big just long :D
Thomas Williams He probably ment 30 km, 1 kilometer=1000 meter,1 mile=Around 1600 meter
Sir Mc Swagalot in sweden and a think maybe the other nordic nations. 1 mile = 10 Km. you know the top half of sweden where i live nothing is just 1 Km away
2canines 10 km = 1 mil :)
2canines Yeah, if you wanna buy snus you have to take the snowscooter for 60 kilometers :)
I have to agree with Dahlberg, ordinary/traditional Swedish food and spices aren't that exciting. But just as it's stated in the video and by him, Swedish chefs have gathered a lot of techniques, spices and ideas from cuisines around the world and instead of just importing them right off the bat, Swedish cuisine is now fusing it with ingredients that exist locally. And there are some AMAZING ingredients in Sweden, so I do believe that this will up the Swedish cuisine to a whole new level. Tourists can say that Swedish food is boring all they want, it's just a matter of a couple of years before Swedish food will get to its A-game.
+Buddha B The thing is that good husmanskost is often better than what you get at most restaurants around the world.
Ivar was the best host yet!
Ivar grymt bra jobb Du är fantastisk på Munchies mer av dig! Du gör mig stolt att vara från Sverige bäst på Munchies. Awsome job Ivar want to see more of you at Munchies , fantastic job well done! (summed up at Swedish)
I like this raw and iconic way! It says "Roots" on the Plate! ;) That´s the right way.
Thanks Munchies.
The chef and Ivar got along so well
The Bread Boy Niklas gets along with everyone. A very friendly guy.
Finally, the Swedish semi-awkward hug to a stranger, because, love to everyone enjoying themselves. :D (I'm not sure why I find this soo Swedish, but I do, this non-prompted show of affection, even when you've just met, because, why not XD)
You know whats funny? I work in bussines of chanterelles and we export them to Sweden from Latvia.
Chanterelles are also mine favorite mushrooms. my mother and basicly everybody in Latvia cook them in pan with butter, sweet cream, little pieces of bacon, black pepper, and fresh greens (dill, parsley, spring onions n stuff) and serve it all with new potatoes. It`s latvian classic
this is the coolest documentary EVER, totally makes me want to learn more about the culture, people, food and history. also like swedish/european men are DEFINITELY the starters of hipster life you can totally tell, i mean yea it's an understatment to compare these men to hipster of the US but seriously man they are so real! and innovated raw people with great sense of style and cool tattoos
We want more Ivar!
damn i love this channel so much
I enjoyed all 5 episodes.
I think that this guy could have his own niche on Munchies, like Eddie Huang and Matty Matheson. He's got so much charisma and makes everything so entertaining! I could watch him all day.
This dude is awesome, I will be sad to see him go..
What a great show#
