09:59 Chapter 6: Creating Your Own Definition Of ‘Rich’
We often have a very distorted view of what it means to be rich where it is this life of abundance; however, this lifestyle leads people to becoming broke because when you spend all your money, you end up having no money. The true path to becoming rich is "looking poor" or living below your means. In this video, we do a deep dive into how looking poor makes you rich.
Chapter 1: The Profitable Industry Of The Fictionalized Rich
The reason we think rich people are extremely materialistic people is because the media portrays them that way; however, this is just a strategy to make money. Showing this beautiful lifestyle of abundance gets people's attention and that attention creates influence and that influence leads to profit. It is simply an industry that is trying to make money; however, this is not what rich people actually look like.
Chapter 2: The Boring Reality Of The Everyday Millionaire
The reality of rich people is actually extremely boring where they live below their means, invest over a long period of time, and live modestly. These actions give them more money to build their wealth over a long period of time. And the people who do flaunt nice material possessions are the people who often become bankrupt.

Chapter 3: Getting Money vs Keeping Money
In order to become rich, there are two skills that you need to master: getting money and keeping money. Getting money requires taking risks, putting yourself out there, and being optimistic; however, keeping money requires the opposite of humility and frugality. It doesn't matter how much money you make, if you do not have the skill of keeping money, you will go broke. Master these two skills to become rich.
Chapter 4: The Power Of Small Decisions
The everyday millionaire gets there by understanding the power of small decisions to live below their means. These small decisions add up and allow them to save money and use it to build their wealth. These small decisions, however, are not enough to become rich, but you also have to use that money to grow.
Chapter 5: The Compounding Effect Of Wealth
In our society, the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer. And one huge reason for this is because poor people make their money through a paycheck, but rich people's money makes them money. If you live a more modest lifestyle, you can use this extra money to invest and grow your wealth over time. Wealth doesn't grow linear, but it grows exponentially.
Chapter 6: Creating Your Own Definition Of ‘Rich’
In this video, I am not saying that in order to become rich you need to look poor, but I am saying that you shouldn't follow this materialistic image of what the media shows us because it ends up harming you. Instead you should create your own definition of what it means to be rich and I guarantee that you will naturally spend less.

What's one lavish thing you buy because you enjoy it...not because you're trying to keep up?
I buy decent seats at concerts and sporting events I want to see. It's an "experience" rather than a tangible thing but I value a good view to see artists I enjoy.
This past spring I decided to purchase a previously owned Mazda Miata MX-5 Roadster. It was a definite splurge but I elected to do that rather than take expensive vacations. Now I have mini day trip vacations when the weather is fine and I want the wind in my face. I keep it in the garage and I view it as an investment. Win-Win. In everyday life I am decidedly frugal but I am not cheap. I will not forego life pleasures such as driving down a country road at midnight under a full moon with the top down, when the fence row honeysuckle is particularly heady. Love your channel, Agustin!

Happiness is NO DEBT. No car payment, no bills in the mail, that`s my definition of the good life. Thanks Austin for your lectures on frugality.
Exactly!
I agree at 57 I am totally debt free..no mortgage..cc..car notes...my income I can save over 50% of it...not including the 15% in a 401k...I don't dress poorly I dress appropriately..no logos...I dress myself to be comfortable and confident...no one would know my net worth. I drive a 13 year old car..it has very low mileage 43k I take very good care of the things that I own even my antique furniture and jewelry because its well made and no one will also have them. I enjoy having peace of mind most of all! And feeling positive about going into retirement sooner than later!
@@snow40741 I am the personification of the grey man. Not even my kids know how wealthy I am. They are in for a big shock when I depart this mortal coil
Yep it’s just boring…. Waiting every 2 weeks to get your bank account bigger and bigger
Thank you austin. I have no mortgage no car payment no credit card payment do not buy name brand clothes or food Dot I shop second hand for most everything I need. I very rarely eat out . This is the lifestyle I chose and I'm glad I did because I was able to retire early and now I enjoy the fruits of my labor
Keep your richness a secret. You're less likely to be robbed or have someone break into your house.
Never let anyone know what you have.
I'm living expat-FIRE in South America. I know well how to get by without being swindled, robbed and targeted. Never bring anything with you that you can't afford to lose. For me, that also means a nice phone with financial apps on it. When I go out I have an $80 phone with no ties to my real life. Latin American homes look like shit from the outside. Only onec you get in beyond the spraypainted walls with broken glass on the top do you see immaculate wealth and gorgeous living. Only if you're invited in.
I used to think like you. But news spread fast and investment firms have a big mouth. It is a network. A network of homeless people and criminals spy on people net worth and then harass them when they go to Tim Hortons and McDonalds. When you have sizeable assets. People will know regardless if you drive a Ferrari or walk for transportation. This guy is not completely right because homeless people will harass you for cash in restaurants and yes, they know how much money you have. This is just consequence of having investment fund. You can dress like a hobo and this network will still harass you for cash. My dear and gone grandfather was worth over a million dollars living in a subsidized senior home and he used to tell me scammers wouldn’t leave him alone. Point being. You can not avoid attention by dressing up like a bum.
I've always lived poor and saved 85% of my income....people laugh at me all the time, but it's OK. What they don't know is I'm retiring 20years ahead of schedule.
@khadijasajid457Jenny pampas Canaya was indicted for securities fraud. She stole all her clients’ money as well.
Why would you fund your retirement with your money?
I would just supplement my retirement with my money. You do not have to retire ahead of schedule, you should FULLY benefit from your contributions. You should not pay off your mortgage ahead of schedule. You should take advantage of the cheap borrowing.
You are squandering all your "sacrifice"!
You will have the last laugh
@jamesabdelkarim Only possible in a country where house price goes up as population goes up.
Not every country have a housing bubble.
You don’t really know when you are retiring, that’s for God to decide so treat yourself to something nice sometime.
People who know me (friends or not) always ask me why I'm not upgrading my 11-year-old motorcycle. I always say "It's cheaper to maintain what you already have than buy a new one.", but ask another one like : "But, you'll look poor in that thing, and how are you gonna enjoy life? Isn't that the purpose of money?", so I reply... "It's already mine, I hate monthly payments, I'd rather look poor than work hard to buy new stuff and I'm happy with it."... And these people brainwashed by socialmedia will smug in their high horses... Don't care, never did.

@@zolozek3327 Old cars that don't require major maintenance are special. They will not all be cheap to maintain nor replace.
And, your values may change. I have a $13,000 VFR800 that just sits in storage, next to my Porsche. Which I only use once a year to move fuel through it when I visit. Because my values changed and now I prefer living outside of the US. Someday I'll sell them, and lose money. I have $50,000 of home furnishings in storage without a home in the US. Someday, all of your value points may shift, and then you'll have all this craft to store or sell.
Same. My friends make fun of my 5 year old phone. I told them it works perfectly fine- why upgrade and pay for something that I already have? They all think I should upgrade. One of them even made fun of me cause his 9 year old kid has a fancier phone than me. I just smile and say nice, you guys are high rollers.
Best comment. America has the best dressed broke people in the world. Facts
UK, too! 😢
We call it ghetto rich😁
Pretty sure this is not true. Generally Europeans are much poorer than Americans, but they dress significantly better.
Agreed too!
Not even that, here in Boston most people dress terrible , but you see them driving luxury cars.
Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without.
Thats how you keep your money.

Austin you are so right. I met a guy playing tennis 20 years ago. I wouldn't had never know that he was a millionaire unless someone told me. He never talks about his money of his business. He dresses like me or you, no fancy clothing designers, or shoes. He still wears the same watch from the time I met him!! No, it is not a Rolex. It is a simple Cartier, no diamonds, no nothing. He is such a kind man, he is always helping others in need and still he is not showing off. The only thing that he really like is cars, so every year or two he leases a new top of the line Mercedes. And the only way for us to find out is because we see a new car parked at the club! He doesn't even mention it to us. He lives in the same house all these years.
I was able to buy my home ouright without a mortage by being frugal.
And Im really proud of myself
Speaking as a "boring" millionaire, I can attest to the effectiveness of everything Augustine says in this video about how to get there.
Same here. I love my boring car!!
I love my Mustang, I am not a millionaire though 😂
Right on!
Living it myself. I sleep well at night.
Same.
I own a cleaning business and make pretty good money yet I budget my groceries and shop at thrift stores because my bank account is more important than new clothes. I also am a minimalist, I always say I feel bad for anyone who wants to break into my apartment. I own nothing worth value lol
I thrift for clothing and household items, too. I find quality items, often new, for excellent prices. In a word, I’m spoiled. Why pay more?
Lol, that's what I say about anyone who wants to break in to my house too! They will be very disappointed. You want my old TV? My old desktop computer? My old furniture?
😂I like your comment on someone breaking in, you have nothing. I too have nothing valuable to a thief.
Oh no, my TV got stolen a year ago. I am still cursing the thief 😮
I'm far away from being a millionaire, and to be honest I just want to live a simple and honest life, but not have to worry about money. The goal is clear, and thanks to videos like this, I started thinking about the way I have to take to reach this goal. Greetings from beautiful Bavaria! ✌😊
I would agree with this. I was a bank teller for a few years, and it was always the unassuming ones that had the money. I remember serving a polite, elderly (in my 20-something eyes, so probably in his 50’s 😂) gentleman, and when I saw his bank balance my eyes nearly popped out of my head. He was wearing shorts, flip flops and a white t-shirt (all standard casual wear here in Australia). He didn’t look poor, just unassuming.
Many people are living "rich broke". A in debt living a social media lifestyle.
Rich is loud, wealth whispers!
Well, we’re not millionaires, but have no debts including mortgage, cars and credit cards. We do eat out quite a lot, not at expensive restaurants, but not fast food either. Being debt free enables us to help others in need including missions projects.
FYI: You are not debt free if you have car and credit card payments.
This is me boring. Lives under her means. Regular house. Paid off car. And I’m so happy ❤

The first step to successful investing is figuring out your goals and risk tolerance either on your own or with the help of a financial professional but is very advisable you make use of a professional.
Wow. I'm a bit perplexed seeing her been mentioned here also Didn’t know she has been good to so many people too this is wonderful, i'm in my fifth trade with her and it has been super.
What impresses me most about Michelle Stewart is how well she explains basic concept of winning before actually letting you use her trade signals. This goes a long way to ensure winning trades.
Isn't that the same Mrs Michelle Stewart that my neighbours are talking about, she has to be a perfect expert for people to talk about her so well
I'm new at this, please how can I reach her?
I read somewhere ,,
Poor people spend like they’re rich and rich people spend like they’re poor ,, lol ,,
I am not wealthy by any means,, but I have always been careful with money, I have been able to retire early from a job that was getting beyond stressful ,, My hubbie and I paid off the mortgage early by overpaying each month ,, I saved into a private pension and savings before any of my wages went out for living expenses ,,
On my allotment ( rented piece of council owned land in UK) I wear an old warm ski jacket that was second hand 16 years ago when my son went skiing with a warm home made knitted woolly hat ,, what a sight but like Mr Augustine says ‘who gives a shit?’
What matters to me is seeing the pleasure on folks’ faces when I hand them a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers ,,
rich or poor, it’s nice to be generous if you can

Looking stylish and having a polished personal style doesn’t take logos. Just quality clothes. You don’t want to look cheap and look poor. Just invest in quality that will last a long time and you will look effortlessly put together, then you can focus on building wealth
There's a saying: "New money shouts, old money whispers". The richest person I know (heir to a huge landed estate) mostly wears a tweed jacket, originally made for his grandfather, with so many leather patches that it's beginning to look like a suitcase. If I was filthy rich, I'd prefer to spend my money on handmade leather shoes, fitted to my own last, rather than flashy cars or rolex watches. No matter how expensive such things are, they always look "cheap" to me.
I hope people watch this video. The message is important. What look like small decisions can make a difference from struggling day-to-day financially to having the freedom to do more of what you really want in life and sleep well at night.
Being rich is having a clear mind and a healthy body and soul.
💯
I drive a 14 year old car I paid 5k for, wear clothes from thrift stores, I eat ramen too (on occasion) oh also. I make over 500k a year working in IT. So ya. I agree with everything here.
Actually it’s a mindset doesn’t matter what you choose to wear or have, it’s how you feel about yourself, you can do whatever you like you don’t need permission from society to enjoy your lifestyle whatever that is for you
No CC debt, 2.25% Mortgage and a paid off car.......i'm happy.
Love this Austin!! I value quality food so that’s where we spend our money. I shop at Whole Foods but don’t get my hair done, clothes at goodwill and old car paid off :) we’re modest in almost every other way
Same. Travel, animal rescue, good food and wine. Americans sadly get their value from their exterior. The fort wealth comes from within.

Same, quality food is most important, so as healthy lifestyle. Anything else I stay modest. I'm not rich but I spend my money wisely. I was never a fan of luxury brands or luxury restaurants. In my eyes everything will perish in the end. So it doesnt matter how luxuous your last dinner or watch was.
Here’s advice I wish I’d been given during my working years: Get a government job. Then you’ll have a big fat pension during retirement.
If you don't find a means of multiplying your money, you will wake up one day and realize that the money you thought you had, had been exhausted. Investment is a ladder to climb the financial wall.

Probably the best video of sense and truth that I have heard about money and the steps you need to take in order to have a truly rich life.
I love what you said " Don't just do something just because society says to" I love your videos and how you close out.😅
Thanks for this video Austin. Your content helps me re-think my relationship with money. I knew one older couple, and they were rich (but not like some billionaires, just 'normal rich'😂 if that makes sense, sorry). And the lady sometimes used to ask me to help her buy things on Aliexpress, (that time I was not aware of frugal living and it's benefits) so at that time it gave me a something to think about...even though they have money to buy something fancy and 'designer', they still were looking for better spending decisions! This video confirms my observations! 🎉
Understanding personal finances and investing will most likely lead to greater financial independence. By being knowledgeable about money and investing, individuals can make informed decisions about how to save, spend, and invest their money. A trader made over $350k in this recession influenced market.
Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are alot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look.
That's why I work with "Camille Alicia Garcia," who introduced me to an improved financial community-a verified agency providing insights into how money works, ways to create wealth, and offering free resources like books, courses, and daily lectures. Last night I was watching a show on Netflix, do not want to mention the show it is about selling real estate in California.
They are selling extremely expensive houses and mansion. Of course, the Real Estate agent are all gorgeous women, wearing all designer clothes and presenting their new designer purse obviously they make sure they mention the model, and the designer name. It is hilarious, there is no way in hell that they can perform and do their job and look like this.. Having plastic surgery, hair and nail done, botox, physical training etc. and going to party and lunch on a daily basic.

Great video today. The first step to wealth is to make sure you have more money coming in than going out.
These are very valuable rules for anybody who wants to get rich. Unfortunately, most people who will watch this video will not really be able to apply the principles. We may not want to admit, but as Warren Buffett once said, investing is like any other profession-- it requires a certain level of expertise. No surprise that some people are losing a lot of money in the bear market, while others are making hundreds of thousands in profit. I just don't know how they do it. I have about $89k now to put in the market.

Yeah, financial advisors could make a lot of difference, particularly in a market such as this. Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look. I've never seen your videos before but you speak my language. Quick story: a few years ago we started putting our pocket change in a jar every day when we got home for the evening. Once there was enough in there to not feel embarrassed about cashing it in we did so at the bank and took that money to the coin shop to buy silver. As our pile of silver grew we started wondering why we had all these habits that ate up our money and started getting rid of them. I quit smoking weed, gave up my nicotine habit, etc, etc, and all of that money went in the jar too. In the last 5 weeks we've sold our 2nd property, and then our 2nd vehicle, and split the proceeds equally between improving the house we live in, paying off debt/cutting monthly bills, and putting more money away in savings. I now walk to work and take my lunch in a bag, and I'm losing a little weight here and there, and sleeping better at night. You see where this is going? Solvitur ambulando...and thank you for going there, Austin!

All my immediate neighbors are old retirees with pension(s). They spend their money at the casinos and home maintenance ($10,000 gutter covers---new roof after every little hail storm...???). I am not going to try and keep up with them. I do my own lawn maintenance. I always act paycheck to paycheck around them with two kids to raise. We have a much, Much higher net worth than what they could imagine since we live very below our means and invest. When we do our international vacations I never let them know or talk about it.....
So the “Old” retirees have money and are now spending it in their retirement as they see fit. You are trying to look like you are living paycheck to paycheck and hiding your vacations from them, why? You almost sound pretentious like it’s a badge of honor. Very odd….
Thank you

Everything you are saying is 100% true. I live it and what you are saying has happened to me.
Good pair of quality shoes that will last years. (Minimalimist here)
Very much enjoy our "stealth wealth" lifestyle.
another great video as always!
As always 😁
Excellent 👌 video
the city where you leave has important part in your capacity to save money. living in roma is probably one of the most expensives places, not only for home, but food. you can easily find a place with great confort for a low quantity of citizen. i can't develop cause we're not allow to quote brands or people on youtube. but you can look for great urbanised cities. there is also some popular burger price comparison study over the world that you can use to find your own dreaming place. but simply avoid capitals in general.
Well said 👍👌 ❤ your channel!
Thanks!

I've read that Millionaire Next Door book and its really an eye opener.

GRACIAS, SE~NOR!!! BENDICIONES!!!
THANK YOU!! !!!
Amen 🙏 to be grateful with what you have is wealth.
Also when you are rich but don’t look rich you can see how people really treat you.
Good morning from south of France mr Williams , definatly agree with all you said in this video
Did we really need a big black car to show how we are ? Just an illusion , I don't need a car to go on work , i use my van thanks to my boss
Did we need to wear rich clothes? Just an illusion too , when i was on school 20 years ago , i saw guys who weared mark clothes and coming by car but they lived near
Poor people look like rich not to show their bad personnality and this is dangerous , we get rich by investing in real estates and stock market , not by sending drugs and playing lottery
As far as i am concerned , i earn 1600 euros per month and only spend 300 euros , i feel relax since i closed the reimbursement of my apartment bought in 2014
We live in a matrix which make us objets spending more and more since our childhood , why financial education is not explained at school ? Because of this system...
I try to be on retirement as soon as possible , i have a simple life and being independant without these objets protects us from stolen cars and many things , congrats to your journey and i tell you in french " bonne journée a vous " 😊
